Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 1376 comments I'm new so I have a question: do we have to post what book we're going to read? For example I'm going to read The Dead-Tossed Waves by Carrie Ryan for part-of-a-series shelf.

message 52: by Thenia (new)

Thenia | 977 comments I don't think we "have to", but it would be fun to see what other members of the team are reading - that way we could cheer each other on!

I'm going to read Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins and I'm excited to see how the story ends! Has anyone read it? I hope it lives up to expectations...

I glanced at the other teams threads -- the team leaders are keeping track. Probably the best way for Steph to know when to award the stamps is for the leads to keep track.

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 1242 comments I'm going to read Paying the Virgin's Price by Christine Merrill for the part-of-a-series shelf. The series is multi-authored and it's call "Regency Silk and Scandal"

For the FREE SPACE read: Queen of Shadows by Dianne Sylvan. It's on the SOS group bookshelf tagged "aug-2010"

Sandra | 25908 comments Once a shelf is announced, pick your book, announce it here, read it, post the date read, rating, short review - only has to be a few lines, wait for the rest of the team to read theirs and await your shelf stamp.

Technically, you don't have to announce the book but it makes it much easier on your team captain and everyone can cheer you on also.

message 56: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Absolutely! When Laura returns from the land of fun & sun, she'll be making a post showing everyone's books & status. We all love to cheer & chat books, so sharing is caring. :)

message 57: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 1376 comments Okay just so I'm making this official haha for the first shelf part-of-a-series I'm going to read The Dead-Tossed Waves by Carrie Ryan and for the free space I'm going to read Kitty and the Midnight Hour by Carrie Vaughn which is on the group bookshelf.

message 58: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Hope you enjoy Kitty, Sarah. I recently just started that series and have been liking it so far. Happy Reading!

I'm reading it, too. It's goooood! Hope you're liking it!

message 61: by Laura Lulu (new)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments Yes, please post the book you're going to read, I have a little form thingy that I will post when I get back home Wednesday. Then I update it after you post your review and star rating, then it's super easy to keep track of where we are and when we are ready for our stamp.

For the part-of-a-series shelf, I'm going to read Unwind (Unwind, #1) by Neal Shusterman .

And I'm going to copy from Christina, since I was already planning on reading it this month, anyway, and read Queen of Shadows (Shadow World, #1) by Dianne Sylvan for my free space book.

message 62: by Thenia (new)

Thenia | 977 comments Okay, I suck! I stayed up all night and finished Mockingjay!! I gave it 5 stars and I even saw a dream about it when I finally went to sleep this morning! :P

The book is fast paced and realistic and I really liked it (if the 5 stars are any indication) but I was a little annoyed with Katniss at times. It didn't make the book any less exciting, though. I think in the end she did end up the way she was supposed to even though it took time to get there.

All in all, the series was a great one and I'm already recommending it to fellow book lovers.

I think I'm going to read the current BOM for the Free Space - Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning.

How are you guys doing?

Oh, and what about our team name? Are we One Book Closer or ONEders/Nameless ONEders (I think these are the most popular choices so far)? Oh "fun & sun-enjoying Leader" (aka Laura LuLu) we need your wisdom and guidance!

message 63: by Laura Lulu (new)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments Wisdom & guidance? From me??? Yikes. ;)

I say everyone posts which one they prefer, Oneders or One Book Closer, and majority rules. Is that some mindblowing wisdom, or what? Lol.

I vote for Oneders

And I agree with you, the Hunger Games trilogy was awesome--I recommend it to everyone, even real-life people. :)

And I haven't started my book yet--but I'll have it done by the time I get home from vacay (Wed), I promise. :)

message 64: by Laura Lulu (new)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments And I kept coming back to Nameless Oneders, trying to remember what the original saying was, and I finally remembered: The Gutless Wonders. What are some others we could use?

The Nameless Oneders
The Clueless Oneders
The Shameless Oneders
The Peerless Oneders

message 65: by Thenia (new)

Thenia | 977 comments I think I like The Nameless ONEders more because somehow it shows to the world that we are wonders but also a team, thus nameless... :P

And that was wise oh, mighty Sun, Sand & Beach Baby! Btw, I live in Greece and it's still windy and cold here! Enjoy sun, sand & beach for me too! I'm past ready for spring to come already!!

Wow you're quick!! I tend to do that too with books I really enjoy, I'll stay up all night and read them. I did it with Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning. I was lucky enough to finish Dreamfever the day Shadowfever came out haha so I had to go out and buy it. I haven't read Mockingjay yet, I've only read The Hunger Games but I loved it!

I plan on starting my book today and hopefully finishing it today because I have a lot to do for school this week. Oh, the woes of a college student. haha

message 67: by Lili (new)

Lili | 297 comments Wow... I was away for a few days and Thenia already finished her book... I need to hurry with mine!

I'll be reading Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost since it's been sitting on my shelf for quite a while and I can't wait to read about this Bones guy everybody is so taken with.

I still don't have the book for the free space but I promise I'll look into it this week.

message 68: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments I started Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione today for the Free Space (it's on the group bookshelf).

I'm probably going to read The Iron King, Morrigan's Cross or Fantasy in Death for part-of-a-series shelf.

As for team name, I still prefer One Book Closer. But if we end up going with the Oneders option, I like Nameless Oneders the best.

Lili | 297 comments Oh and for the name...ummm... I think I like ONEders, just like that.

I'll try to keep in touch but I'm a high school teacher here in Mexico and with spring break just around the corner... well... let's just say I'm up to my neck with things to do before the kids get any more restless.

Hi All!!! Better late than never! New to the Bingo Game here; but, love to read! I am sooo excited to be on your team :D!

I like the two names mentioned above. I have been trying to come up with something to add; but, you all have great imaginations with the names you have submitted.

Better go choose a book to read and brush up on the rules. Looking forward to bonding over the game!

message 73: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Welcome, Laurie! I've sent ya a easy break down of how to play. Much easier than the full how-to, which can seem a bit daunting. It's very easy and a ton of fun! I think you'll enjoy it! Welcome to the game! Good luck to you & your team!

message 74: by Lili (new)

Lili | 297 comments Just finished Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost and ohh oooh oooohhh!!!... this book was so so very good!!
I gave it 5 stars 'cause I couldn't rate it higher.

The main characters are awesome, I like Cat and I want to either be her or her best friend... and Bones, what a sweet, witty, sexy vampire!
The plot is great, very interesting and it got me hooked from the very beginning. The writing is super easy to read, I didn't notice I was about to finish the whole book until the last couple of chapters.

I can't wait for the next one in the series...

message 75: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LOL "cause I couldn't rate it higher" I LOVE those kinda books and that series is one of them. So glad you enjoyed it, Lili! Great review.

message 77: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments I finished my free space book on 3/6/11 and gave it 3 stars. Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, #1) by Larissa Ione

Review:
An interesting world, but a bit steamy than I prefer. I will probably continue with the series eventually, because I want to know more about Shade and Wraith.

What I enjoyed:
* Great heroine. I loved that Tayla is the better fighter.
* Interesting world full of all sorts of demons.
* Eidolon and his family.
* (view spoiler)

What could have been better:
* A little too steamy for my tastes.
* S'genesis is just messed up.
* Seriously, his brothers' names are Shade and Wraith?

message 78: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LOL @ brother's names. :) Great review, Diane. Their names do tend to fit those two.

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments I finished my book, but I'm going to wait to post my review and get the stats post up until I get home tomorrow night--the ipad isn't ideal for long, rambling posts. :)

For our name, so far we have:

2 - ONEders
1 - Nameless ONEders
1 - One Book Closer

5 more votes before we can decide on this sucker. :)

message 90: by [deleted user] (new)

Seeing your suggestions, I just have to say that I'm loving the names for R2. Especially since all names are fitting for the team numbers! If not with the number in the name, then the number of words.

Love your name suggestions, btw. :D Good luck deciding!

Well, I didn't end up finishing that other monthly challenge I said I'd keep myself from reading these immediately for :)

And in an amazing stroke of timing, I just finished Bonds of Justice and Play of Passion just came in the mail!

Man, it's going to be torture waiting for Kiss of Snow... Guess I'll just have to catch up on her other series!

Jen (jlkish) (jlkish) | 82 comments For the Part-of-a-Series slot:

Bonds of Justice by Nalini Singh ****/5 03.08.11

I really enjoyed this one... Max intrigued me with his 1st appearance in Mine to Possess so I was looking forward to his story. I wasn't as big a fan of the romance in this particular book, but the moving forward of the overall arc of the series helped make it a solidly enjoyable read.

Bonds of Justice (Psy-Changeling, #8) by Nalini Singh

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I'm feeling like a psy/changeling addict. I want to read KoS, but once it's read and the high is over??? What's next? LOL! A re-read of the series may be in order. :)

PS: I know more P/C books will follow, thankfully. But the build-up to KoS is insane.

Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments I finished The Iron King by Julie Kawaga on 3/8/11 for part-of-a-series shelf. I gave it 3 stars.

My review:
"Interesting take on the fae world. I'm looking forward to the next book.

What I enjoyed:
* The world. The idea of (view spoiler).
* Ash. Nothing like a stoic, hot, winter fae prince.
* Grimalkin. It will be interesting to see what he does in the future.

What could have been better:
* Meghan was a bit TSTL. She was after a worthy cause, but didn't know enough to survive.
* Oberon seemed fairly inept.
* (view spoiler)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments part-of-a-series

Unwind (Unwind, #1) by Neal Shusterman finished March 7 ★★★★★

This was a really great YA dystopian read. It takes place in the future, about 2 generations from now--the only clue as to how far in the future is a character is in an antiques shop and makes mention of an ipod from his grandfather's time. :) The story takes place after the Heartland War, the 2nd US Civil War, between the pro-lifers & pro-choicers. To end the war, they come up with the Bill of Life: no abortions or birth control, all babies have a chance at life. But from ages 13-18, parents have the right to "unwind" their children--basically sign them away to the government to be harvested for parts. Puts a new spin on good behavior from your kids, huh?

At this point in the future, all parts of a body can be donated and used in transplants. Break an arm? You can get a cheap cast and hope it heals nicely, but for a bit more money, why not just get a brand new arm? Get in an accident while you were driving drunk and now you have brain damage? No problem--here's a brand new front temporal lobe. And the government makes all the money from the transplants. Pretty sweet deal for them.

Also, there's a law called the Storking Initiative--any woman can dump a baby at someone's front door. If she doesn't get caught, the baby is no longer her responsibility--it's now the responsibility of the person who opens that door. And state homes have tens of thousands of unwanted babies--1 nurse to 50 babies. But hey--they can all be unwound at 13, unless they turn out to be a genius or artistic prodigy and you decide to keep them around.

The story is about 3 kids who are "unwinds", all with different stories, each sadder and more pitiful than the next, and all are on the run, hoping to stay alive until they're 18, which is the age when they can't unwind you anymore.

Ok, enough rambling. But you can see all the thought provoking material in this book. I think it would be a great book club read--lots of stuff for discussion. :)
