R2 TEAM THREAD: Team #1 The ONEders [THIRD PLACE]

Waiting with anxious breath for the gravel's thump to congratulate on your new name!

Laura do you want to do the honours or would you like me to change your name, the suspense is killing!

Kudos to Patricia Briggs for creating such a harrowing and fulfilling story with the installment of Silver Borne. I absolutely loved this book!
Mercedes Thompson sure can get into a few scrapes to put it mildly and this book is no different. The tension weaved into the storyline from the predicaments Mercedes finds herself in creates an edge of your seat reading experience. This series gets better and better as you read it.
Mercedes finds herself involved with the Fae, the local werewolf pack (since she is the Alpha's mate), her mating bond and here roommate - Samuel's - drama. With all of the theatrics, putting down the book is almost impossible! I highly recommend this book! I am off to buy River Marked....
5 stars :)
Happy Reading!

Happy Reading!! :)

Absolutely loved...is that a 5 star? Or just a 4 star? I would say "loved" is a 4 star, and "absolutely loved" is a 5 star, but you tell me what to put. :)

Here's how all the groups are doing for the 1st shelf:
Team 1 - 6/9
Team 2 - 7/8
Team 3 - 7/8
Team 4 - 8/8 stamp awarded
Team 5 - 6/7
Team 6 - 6/8
As I was snooping around, I noticed that most of the other team captains have a post on the 1st page of the group with their current team stats. That made it very easy for my snooping to see where they were at, and it probably makes it easier for Steph to see our latest updates. So I made a post on the first page, post #9, and I am going to delete my post and replace it with our team stats post. I will still post it as a regular post, because I know most of us don't go back to the 1st page and it's nice to have it at the end, but it will also be on the 1st page if anyone needs to find it quick. :)
I'm off to scour the shifters shelf. :)

Happy reading, ONEders!

The Free Space square is not as time critical as the weekly shelves--the sooner the better, of course, but we have a few weeks to get that one taken care of. :)

But I'm leaving it, in case it helps anyone else. And because I spent too much time making it pretty with all the links. ;)

I fixed it on my above post. :)

Laurie, check out post #122--I listed the 3 places you can pick your Free Space book from, with links to make it easy to find those places. :)
Check it out and let me know if you have any questions.

I whine because I REALLY want to finish the books I've already chosen for the month and darn it, none of them were shifter books (and none of them were also on the first shelf called, either).
Since I have prefer shifter to vampires, I have plenty to pick from. I just have to decide which book.
However, I've already started reading my Free Space pick. I'm about 100 pages into Queen of Shadows.
I'll update later today (hopefully) with my pick for the shifter shelf and my thoughts on Paying the Virgin's Price (I finished it this morning).

Silver Borne... or maybe Hunting Ground?
No, wait! Visions of Heat?
No, no! Magic Bleeds?
What to read???

I say,

I was really captivated with the first book and it had been awhile since I read it so I was a little confused about some things in this book but that's my own fault! lol. I enjoyed the love triangle between Catcher, Gabry, and Elias. As well as the mother/daughter dynamic between Mary and Gabry. I think it's a very well done second book and I can't wait for the third to come out!

And Sarah--I love The Forest of Hands & Teeth series. I find that people either love it or greatly dislike it, but I'm in the love camp. I wasn't crazy about Mary in the 1st book, but I just loved the story.
I'll update the stats post in a bit, my kids just made me a surprise dessert--they were in the kitchen making me a "surprise", and I can come in there now. My husband gave me the heads up by telling me they were in there melting Hershey's Kisses. I'm afraid. ;)

Laurie, when we all finish our free space books, we will get the stamp for the free space. So no super rush, since obviously no one is close to getting Bingo yet, but it's nice to get it checked off the list. I'm starting my Shifter shelf book tonight, and then I'm reading my free space book next. It's a book I need to read for a few of my March challenges, so I'll definitely be finished with it in March, but probably by the end of the week. :)

I really enjoyed the first book. I think it depends on the type of books people have read before it. I had never read a zombie-esque type book before this series and I enjoy it greatly. Also, (and this is probably random) but I think that people who like Rachel Morgan/The Hollows series by Kim Harrison didn't read a lot of Urban Fantasy before hand. Like myself, Rachel Morgan was the first Urban Fantasy series I had ever read and I absolutely love it! But I've found that a lot of people who have read a lot of Urban Fantasy before starting Dead Witch Walking say that they didn't like it.

Regency Silk & Scandal #2
I picked this book for several reasons: I needed a break from the all the PNR/UF and it was something I knew I could read in a week or less. Plus, Christine Merrill is my favorite Harlequin Historical writer. I've loved every book of hers I've read.
I usually love her heroes the best. Even when they are trying to do the right thing for the right reasons, they still manage to mess things up, and Nate's no different. He's a gambler with extremely good luck, but he takes no joy in his occupation. He originally took it up to help support his mother and sisters. Due to circumstances beyond his control, he lost touch with them and hasn't been able to find them since. Now, he gambles because he doesn't know what else to do with his life. Polite Society has no use for the son of a convicted murderer.
Diana is well-grounded, rational, and usually very sensible. I initially had some reservations with one of her decisions. I re-read the scene in question and reconsidered. It helped that Diana accepted the consequences of her actions without protests or hysterics or other drama.
I don't think this book will work as a stand-a-lone, due to the over-arching mystery of who really killed Christopher Hebden in 1794. The clues are probably spread throughout the series. I'm pretty sure I know who it is already, and it's not George Carlow.

Thanks for the input Christina!"
You're welcome. :D

That being said, everyone's rockin' and rollin', so I didn't feel it was fair to your team to hold you guys back waiting any longer.
And with that, I'll say ...
CONGRATULATIONS, ONEders!
You now have an updated BINGO card with a stamp on 'part-of-a-series'.
[Your new BINGO card can be viewed on page 1]
Good Job!! :D

Just to let you all know the behind-the-scenes of it, I PM'd Amanda 2x since I got home from vacay Wednesday. The first time just giving her a little reminder that the first shelf had been posted the past weekend. The 2nd time was after Steph posted the 2nd shelf, and I just told her that I know real life gets in the way, and if she wanted to bow out, we would understand. But I also said that obviously no team was close to getting Bingo yet, so if she still wanted to play, there was more than enough time for her to catch up. Just to let us know either way what she wanted to do.
I know we all don't remember to check our inboxes on GR, or we let those GR email notifications build up and then keep putting off reading them because there's so many. :) And I have taken a few days off GR from time to time, so I know how that goes. But the last time we heard from her was on Feb 28th, the day Steph started the team threads.
So I mentioned it to the other mods & team captains, and we decided either real life got in the way, or she decided she didn't want to play anymore. Either way, my biggest concern was I didn't want it to hold us back anymore. There's something great about getting that 1st stamp. Go Team! :)
And since we were the only team with 9 members, it actually works out nicely--now each team has 8 members. :)

Did I mention how excited I am? As Steph & Sandra know, and maybe the girls who played Round 1 might know this, but in Round 1, my team was the last to get our stamp, every time. So thank you ONEders! I'm not last anymore! Lol!
