Qylie | 107 comments I don't know how many people use calibre to manage their ebook collections but I found this really cool plugin that lets you sync your shelves from Goodreads to calibre and lots of other data

Qylie | 107 comments No problem. I am going to write some templates for the columns I'll share them when I finish.

Bill (kernos) | 426 comments Would that someone write a plugin for Bookpedia to download data about any kind of book from Goodreads.

Qylie | 107 comments If you were looking for something to be done with bookpedia i suggest hitting up their forums and seeing what people have done. I don't even know what language it is written in, because I don't use it. Calibre is mostly Python.

Qylie | 107 comments Found this in a post on goodreads:
Here is a quick little feature that may be useful for those of us who read on the kindle. You know how on the kindle, you can highlight a certain passage, and then share it to facebook or twitter? Now, when you do that, you can also have it shared to Goodreads as a quote.

It's a bit clunky because you'll need to find out your public kindle highlights URL, but as soon as you find that, it should be easy-schmeezy.

After that's set up, any time you share a quote on your kindle to twitter or facebook, it'll also get queued to share on Goodreads.

Here is a directions link: Push Highlights

Kindle cool if you want to push quotes from your kindle to goodreads via the sharing option. I made a new twitter account for it.

Have done as have others. He's been "working on it" for more than a year.

Qylie | 107 comments Damn that sucks! Have you looked into calibre? The user base is good, the forums are extremely active. The guy who created the program is great at responding to feedback and fixing bugs. You can download content from newspapers and stuff and email or push it to devices. LOL I sounds like a calibre advertisement.

I have used Calibre, but just for converting formats. I have not used it for a book database. It seems rather limited for that. Most of my books are physical. Is it any good for databasing physical books?

Yeah, I tried that a few times when it was introduced. It only picked up one of my dozen quotes I tried. Turns out it only works for "official" Amazon books - not personal documents - so the out of copyright books I read from Mobileread/Gutenberg/wherever won't work. Also, it just gets pushed to GR as a favorite quote, not a status update from what you're reading. I also couldn't get it to work on a book if it wasn't already on my shelves.

Qylie | 107 comments I did a quick little scan of their forums. Got completely side tracked because they just added the option to add book page numbers to your kindle calibre books (YIPPY) but i found this post that seams like something that might work for you:

You can use a scanner or the drop down option and it can mass import too:-)

Qylie | 107 comments Damn Cindy that sucks. I wonder what Xeni does, she pushes her reading to goodreads so if you look at a book she is reading you can see notes and a time line it's really cool.

How can you add page numbers to your calibre books? :) This excites me!

Qylie | 107 comments If you are using a kindle (firmware 3.1) and Calibre (latest version) it works almost automagically if you use the usb cable to transfer your books and not email. You have to have the book in mobi format and you need the isbn number. It is easy to right click the book and tell calibre to d/l the metadata and cover you can even do it in bulk. If you have the book in mobi and the metadata downloaded and your kindle is running the new firmware (3.1) then when you push your books or send them to the kindle it automatically adds the page numbers.

You know in the new update how you have to press the menu button while reading a book to see the page markers now you will also have page numbers there.

Mike Stillwell (nicodemus3d) Hey Qylie,
Did you ever get around to making some templates for the columns? If you did it would be great to get them. Thanks for pointing out such a fantasticly useful plugin. :)

Wow, Calibre is so awesome. I've been using it for years for my Sony Reader. It just works. The problem is that my ebook collection is just rediculouly huge. it stands at about 8GB right now, of text files and pdfs. So it can get really slow and tedious sometimes.
Can't wait to check out the new plugin! Thanks guys

Qylie | 107 comments Hey mike - Sorry I got sidetracked and never did make the columns. The plug in has come a really long way since my post though. I really like it!
