There is an ahead of it's time novel from the '60s The Song of the Loon about a white wilderness type guy and a Native American (Indian in those days). Good story and quite erotic. IIRC, there were 2 sequels.
There is also a 1970 movie based on the novel: The Song of the Loon. The book is better.
Personally, I think it required reading for anyone interested in Gay fiction or Gay studies, since it was arguably the 1st M/M American romance to become widely (relatively) distributed and even reprinted. It is considered a classic, IMO.

This novel looks utterly fascinating; I hope, when I finally get round to reading it, that I experience the beautiful blend of wilderness and passion that the synopsis promises. Thanks for participating in this discussion.

I'm looking for gay/queer fiction that link issues of homosexuality, the environment(wilderness/rural/pastoral landscapes)and possibly encounters with first nation characters.
Any ideas?
Currently I have two "texts" that fit the description:
-Proteus, a film which is about the relationship between a Dutch sailor and Khoisan man in sixteenth-century Cape Town/robben island.
-Native, a novel by W.H. Henderson set in Wyoming which centers around a cowboy and two Native American characters.
Anyone know of a Australian novel/film about the relationship between a white man, aborigine and the Australian outback?
