RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Have you ever had a concussion? What was it like? Did you recover?

There seems to be no shortage of sports-related concussions lately...here's another article about one.

janine | 7709 comments i haven't had any concussions that i know of, but my brain hasn't been checked since i was five.

Sarah | 13814 comments I've never had one, but I gave my sister a minor concussion once by accident.

message 4: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman I got a concussion when I was around 8-9 after I fell off a large snow pile in my backyard and landed on my head. I remember being told I could not go to sleep for several hours or else I would risk not waking up. Pretty scary at that age. Also remember being very dizzy and nauseous. I recovered fully (although some would argue that point).

ducks

message 6: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Who's a duck? Heidi's a bear, and there are some sock monkeys, zombie or otherwise, and somebody said that the lord loves a duck over in the redhead discussion. But who's a duck???

Janice (jamasc) A couple years back I was helping my son with an escaped cow. I had my hand on her flank and was running alongside of her when I lost my balance. I tried to get my feet under me, but ended up falling flat on my face - just missed a cow patty. My son said that I was momentarily knocked out, but I replied that I was just counting stars. It was never confirmed that I had a concussion, but I had all the symptoms. Plus, I had scrapes and bruises all down my face. I had my own rodeo and didn't even leave the farm.

message 10: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments At least you got a good story out of it, Janice. Papa was a rodeo, but not everybody gets one of their very own.

Phoenix (phoenixapb) | 1619 comments I got a concussion and a cracked jaw when I was 9, at church camp of all places. I rolled my eyes at this 17 yr. old councelor in training after she sushed me durning chapel. She tracked me down at the basketball court after we were dismissed and decided slamming my head repeatedly into the bleachers was a fit punishement for "disrespecting my elders".
The doctor encouraged my mother to press charges and petition the court for a mandatory mental evaluation on the girl (as her behavior was far from normal). My mother refused, stating that that would be an un-christian thing to do and forgiveness is god's way (I only wish I was lying).

I am not bitter, I am not bitter, I am...so very bitter!

Yes. No fun. No.

Oh, Janice, I realize this type of event is probably commonplace for you, but I love this sentence more than I can express.

Félix (habitseven) A what? A pin cushion?

message 15: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments i could probably use you as a pin cushion.

message 16: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) You'd like that wouldn't you?

LOL! Sing along to John Denver... Ohhh, life on the farm...

Some of our neighbors do the old style cattle drive when they move their herds out to the leases for summer grazing. You never want to get stuck behind one headed down the highway. Running cows stream mucus and manure like rainfall.

When you see a herd of cattle running down the road the proper epithet is "oh shit"!

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments oh i have def been concussed many times. I've never had one, but my mom reportedly dropped me down the stairs when I was a baby.

message 22: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) I had a bad one when I was 15, ended up in the ICU and everything. I had to take anitseizure meds for a couple of years afterwards.

message 23: by Pat (last edited Mar 08, 2011 04:09AM) (new)

Pat (patb37) I had one when I was 12 or 13, from a bicycle accident. It was serious enough that I was not allowed to sleep for 36 hours. At the time I think the sleep deprivation affected me more than the smack on the head.

message 24: by Helena (new)

Helena | 1056 comments Yes. Twice that I know of, both work related. I suspect at least once more in a nasty spill off my bike.

message 26: by Michele (new)

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments 1st concussion: age 6 when I was shoved off the swing and hit my head on a big rock. 2nd : getting my head banged against a wall by my ex . 3rd: getting my head smashed against the kitchen floor 17 times when I was 29 (the last beating he ever gave me). 4th: bad auto accident in 1991.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

My wife tried to kill me by striking me upside the head with a garage door this weekend.

It was an accident, really. I told her to shut the garage door while I was using the leafblower; I didn't realize she was in the process of shutting the door while I had the leafblower going, which, in turn, led me to get hit with the garage door.

Luckily, I did not get a concussion.

Phil | 11837 comments Did you get "apology nookie?"

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah. There were tears involved.

Jim | 6484 comments Gus wrote: "Yeah. There were tears involved."

In the accident or in the nookie?

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

Both. My wife thought she'd killed me, or at least suffered a serious head injury. Then during the nookie, she kept crying, and I barked, "stop crying, this is all your fault."

(I AM SO KIDDING ABOUT THAT.)
