Flannery (flannabanana) Piper Kerman will be appearing at Elliot Bay Book Company on 3/16 at 7pm. She wrote a memoir, Orange is the New Black, about her time in a women's prison.

Here is the information from EBB website:
Published to considerable praise and attention a year ago, Piper Kerman's Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison (Spiegel & Grau, newly in paper) is the story of a young woman well along in work and romance who ends up on trial, and being convicted for drug-related crimes that had occurred over a decade earlier. Orange is the New Black is Piper Kerman's story of the thirteen months she spent in prison, eleven of them at the well-known federal corrections center in Danbury, Connecticut. "Don't let the irreverent title fool mislead: This is a serious and big-hearted book that depicts life in a women's prison with great detail and—crucially, with empathy and respect for Piper Kerman's fellow prisoners, most of whom did not and do not have her advantages and options. With its expert reporting and humane, clear-eyed storytelling, Orange is the New Black will join Ted Conover's Newjack among the necessary contemporary books about the American prison experience." – Dave Eggers.

Flannery (flannabanana) Incidentally, I read this book for my book club and I'd love to see what she's like in real life.
