I think two months is a good idea especially when the books are more than twice the lengths of most modern novels.

Yeah. I think I'll change that. I'll post a new end date on the discussion topic.

message 57: by Connor (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 226 comments Mod
I don't think we've actually read anything in this group. I think we've gone so far as to intend to read something though. :P

message 58: by Cassie (new)

Cassie Lol okay just making sure:)

message 59: by Evil (new)

Evil (evilqueen22) We should read a book then!!! :D We could do it for November!

message 60: by Connor (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 226 comments Mod
Or now, we could do it in like, Mid January or February, haha. Sorry this has been really inactive.

I was actually thinking of reading that after I finish Les Miserables. I really want to finish Les Mis before I do anything else though. Maybe for a February read?

Paris (practicallyperfectineveryway) | 5 comments Oh! I love Les Miserables;it's one of the most powerful books I've read! Now, a question...it's November and I'm wondering when the next poll for what novel to read next is going to take place.

message 64: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (truthfulreviewer) Is this group still reading Little Dorrit, and is there an active discussion about it?

message 65: by Curt (new)

Curt Locklear (wwwcurtlocklearauthorcom) | 6 comments I'm a huge Dickens fan. He's inspired so much of my own writings. If I want to add to my day, I just have to read a quote from one of his books. My favorites of his are Bleak House and A Christmas Carol.
Blessings.

message 66: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (truthfulreviewer) My husband and I liked Nicholas Nickleby, Little Dorrit, and I liked Great Expectations.

Curt Locklear (wwwcurtlocklearauthorcom) | 6 comments It's hard to pick, isn't it. So many great stories that reveal the human creature in sublime ways. Nice to meet you

Nice to meet you, too, I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone in the group, and to a lively discussion about Dicken's works. What do you think of a group read some time in the future?

message 69: by Rod (new)

Rod | 11 comments I’d like to suggest we pick a novel to read together and read it at a leisurely pace, say 50 pages per week.... maybe Hard Times, a shorter one which I enjoyed.

message 70: by Curt (new)

Curt Locklear (wwwcurtlocklearauthorcom) | 6 comments that is a good idea. Hard Times is also a good choice.

message 71: by Rod (new)

Rod | 11 comments I posted on a different thread as well.

Nancy (truthfulreviewer) we would need to give each participant time enough to get a copy of the book, too. Fifty pages per week may be too much for some people who work outside of the home. What about 30 pages?

I read and review books for 2 publishers, and at the moment, I'm expecting 2 books in the mail, which is why I am suggesting 30 pages per week.

message 73: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (truthfulreviewer) Would you all be interested in making a list of future books to read, which would allow everyone to be ready to join in when the time comes?
Also,I'm hoping the moderator will provide discussion questions as we progress in reading Hard Times.

message 74: by Rod (new)

Rod | 11 comments Good idea, at least a couple more books. I am willing to assume some responsibility for getting this going and suggesting questions.

30 pages would be fine. 200 some members, would think there are enough folks to get this going..

message 76: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (truthfulreviewer) Sounds good.

What do you think of posting a list of future readalong books?

message 78: by Rod (new)

Rod | 11 comments That would be fine... Need the moderator to get involved I think. Toss out a couple of ideas you hsve for future books..

message 79: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (truthfulreviewer) Martin Chuzzlewit, and Hard Times

message 80: by Rod (new)

Rod | 11 comments The Old Curiosity Shop and Bleak House. Thanks for the list my pandemic brain is not working.

message 81: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (truthfulreviewer) How are you going to choose what to read for the group?

message 82: by Rod (new)

Rod | 11 comments I do ‘t Know that it is for me to choose. Was hoping the moderator would jump in to bless what we are doing.

message 83: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (truthfulreviewer) Well, see if you can contact him. I agree, he should be the one making the decision.

message 84: by Jon (new)

Jon Blanchard | 8 comments I would suggest to read a number of chapters at a time rather than a set number of pages otherwise you would get in a muddle.

The problem is the great length of his books. Hard Times in comparatively short, but not really typical.

The other comparatively short one is Oliver Twist, which is far more Dickensian.

Christmas Carol is very, very Dickensian but probably too short.

If anyone is interested in joining a very ACTIVE Dickens group, please go here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I've joined, and it's delightful, and busy. Plenty of Dickens lovers to talk to, and read with.
