Since this is a post-apocalyptic group, we should all give our own theories about how the world will end. Will a virus escape from a top-secret lab turning 90% of the world's population into brain-eating zombies? Will aliens come to colonize the planet and use humans as slaves for all time? Will WWIII begin with explosions of atomic bombs?

You get the idea. Theorize away!

message 2: by Julie (new)

Julie S. Those all sound so compelling. I just don't konw where to begin...

If anyone wants any other ideas on the end of the world, I suggest reading The Apocalypse Reader by Justin Taylor , an anthology filled with end-of-the-world short stories.

message 3: by Brandy (new)

Brandy Hunt Personally, I think it will be a combination of pressures. I think when you press peak oil against a lack of water and food, you will get a mighty apocalypse.

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

I definitely agree! The Apocalypse will be ginormous because of a combination of all the bad world-ending theories. Hey, maybe aliens will invade and reanimate corpses from cemeteries to act as their army. This will somehow cause a meteor to hit earth, which will knock the entire planet out of the solar system and away from the sun so the whole planet freezes and dies. Including the aliens that started everything! Hey someone should make this a movie!

Paula Williams (daystealer) | 42 comments Because of the recent tsunami, I think it would be cool for several of them to hit at the same time, leaving only half the land mass we have to today, and with very little drinkable water. Of course, the population will decrease and disease spread, but hey, what's a good apocalypse without a little death.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes! We could have a world like Waterworld and Kevin Costner could come and lead us all to dry land! I hope I'm not the only one who was obsessed with that movie...

*Suzy (ereaderuser)* (suzyereaderuser) Nope! You aren't the only one. :)

message 8: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Definitely no. I love Waterworld....who doesn't want gills?!?! I mean, come on...

message 9: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Boettcher (ashleyboettcher) | 5 comments I put my theory into a series I wrote called "Threshold." The world ends when we successfully create the first human clone.
He has no soul.
He has no conscience.
He is appealing and deceiving; he becomes president.
His only goal is total domination and destruction, and he succeeds by creating a virus. When his plot to spread it goes awry, a solar flair breeches earths ionosphere spiraling the survivors into a dark fight for their lives!
It's available in Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004RH4F4E

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Ashley, that's so creepy! But also sounds really good! I like reading about clones! I could so totally see that happening!

message 11: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Boettcher (ashleyboettcher) | 5 comments I loved Pursuing Amy (Replica, #2) by Marilyn Kaye mostly because it spelled out the humanity of clones against the inhuman pursuit society posed on her kind.
On the flip side,
Threshold Pandora's Box by Ashley Boettcher is one where the speculation that clones were never "born" and therefore cannot have souls makes them more dangerous than any imagined monster.

message 12: by Adela (new)

Adela Clancy Well I think if the world were to end anytime soon it could be any number of things..
Nuclear, WWIII, Natural disasters, Viral Outbreak of some kind

Personally my favorite theory is zombies, although it's unlikely I think it would be the most interesting of the theories. Though you never know right, maybe some kind of mutated disease or bioweapon will take over and create zombie-like things. In any case, I have a plan formulated in my head should any of this happen lol ;P

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Ok, so I know it might be bad, but if the world ended, I would want it to be zombies! Hehe they seem the most interesting. Given, I would probably be one of the zombies though...

message 14: by Adela (new)

Adela Clancy Lol same here, though I'd probably be bitten in like the first 5 minutes which would suck, but still ;P

Angie (angiebayne) Paula wrote: "Because of the recent tsunami, I think it would be cool for several of them to hit at the same time, leaving only half the land mass we have to today, and with very little drinkable water. Of cour..."

Flood is definitely an option and a popular one. There are a lot of books out right now where the world has become flooded.

Ship Breaker (Ship Breaker, #1) by Paolo Bacigalupi Dark Life (Dark Life, #1) by Kat Falls Exodus by Julie Bertagna Zenith by Julie Bertagna Raiders' Ransom by Emily Diamand X-isle by Steve Augarde The Other Side of the Island by Allegra Goodman

and I am sure there are a lot more. These are just the ones I have read.

Adela Clancy I have a question for y'all, if the world were to end and you could do nothing about it to survive, how would you spend your final day? ;) just a random question lol

message 17: by Ralph (new)

Ralph Halse | 8 comments I have constructed two novels in a yet to be completed trilogy on this subject. Essentially, we get it from an asteroid storm and what commences after the dust settles is a time known as the Disaster Wars, whereupon humans obliterate each back into a stone age existence with whatever weapons remain. As the planet restores itself, so humans rise once more. But as always, the best intentions of humanity go astray. Scavenger Lord The Rise of Rhyka Hawk Wing book 1 Artefact War by Ralph Halse

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Adela, I would definitely spend my last hours with my family. That sounds really cheesy, but it's definitely true. Oh, also, I would eat all the junk food and desserts that I possibly could. Because hey, if I die, I don't have to worry about being fat!

Ralph, that sounds really good! Thanks for sharing! :)

message 19: by Ralph (new)

Ralph Halse | 8 comments Amy, you're welcome. I worked on the principle that we knew it was coming but were arrogant enough to think we could halt the inevitable. I followed that up with despots taking advantage of the chaos and then drilled down to what rises out of the ashes and extrapolated that into a theory that seems to be working.

cheers

message 20: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Draper | 76 comments I would place my bet on a super bug that will take out the human populations en masse. I work in the hospitals (I'm quite nearly a nurse! Huzzah!), and I can't tell you how many people I see now who have MRSA or VRE. These aren't "active infections" - it simply means they have some antibiotic resistant bacteria in 'em. And VRE? That means it's VANCOMYCIN resistant, and that's the biggest, baddest, nastiest antibiotic we have.

The bugs are mutating faster than we can create antibiotics - mostly (I think) because people don't take antibiotics properly, and add to that the fact that they are TOTALLY over prescribed!

It's only a matter of time.
Super bug!

(Could be zombies. Who knows? LOL)

message 21: by Adela (new)

Adela Clancy @Katherine

I think you are very right. To me, a viral outbreak seems the most likely. Btw, what's MRSA?

I'm currently reading a book The Zombie Autopsies Secret Notebooks from the Apocalypse by Steven C. Schlozman written by a doctor who uses medical and scientific facts to basically explain that zombies might be possible in some way. ;P

message 22: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Draper | 76 comments LOL! Yay, Zombies!
MRSA = Methicillin resistant staph. It's been in the news somewhat, it can cause nasty nasty skin infections and it's really hard to treat. it went through schools at one point, and locker rooms. Everyone has staph living on them pretty much, and it can get nasty if given a chance to (infected wounds) - but MRSA, not as easy.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm so freaked now Katherine! I totally just got the shivers haha. Maybe it will be some kind of super bug that turns people into zombies!

message 24: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Draper | 76 comments I am booking my family vacation today (LOL) - we are going out west to South Dakota and Wyoming.
For what it's worth, we should all head to WY in case of Zombie Apocalypse. There are only like 544k people in the whole state. That's less than what is in my city. No hordes of zombies in WY!!!

LOL!!!!

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

Not with a bang, but a whimper.

Or, ya know, kittens.

Think about it: we already feed and shelter them, and have turned them into celebrities on YouTube.

When they get bored and decide WE'D be a better dinner than Friskies....watch out!

message 26: by Graciela (new)

Graciela Marez (marez3397) I heard that a kitten can eat a human..... :O

message 27: by Alli (new)

Alli (allic) .....thank you for that mental picture >.<

message 30: by Chris (new)

Chris (necaros) | 26 comments Honestly, I think it will be when Yellowstone erupts, The size of this super-volcano is frightening. On the plus side, it'll go quick. If you really want to know what we are actually facing, I suggest the book, Everything Is Going to Kill Everybody The Terrifyingly Real Ways the World Wants You Dead by Robert Brockway , rather foul mouthed, and presented in a humorous fashion, but only because you can only laugh in the face of utter annihilation. But, the book is freaky scary. Being a fan of this type of stuff, I thought I was aware of most of the possible end-time scenarios, not even close.

message 31: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Haha...I love the title. Definitely an attention grabber!

message 32: by Graciela (new)

Graciela Marez (marez3397) I will definitely be checkin that book out
