Chase Devereaux is a shy, sensitive and unpopular 15-year-old who is not at all like the kids who are cocky, athletic and popular with students and teachers alike.

All he wants to do is get through the day, but the bullies won't let him.

I recalled very painful memories of my own younger brother who was sensitive, smart, and so not into sports. He managed to survive his school years, though many others are not as fortunate.

I enjoyed reading this very short story that ended with a message of hope and friendship. It made me shed a few tears of sadness and joy and also made me realize that the problems young people face today are no different than they were when I was in school.

It's free and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Thanks, Nancy, for recommending this short story. I enjoyed it very much. I'm sure most everyone experienced bullying or witnessed it; who had the courage to stand up to it? Been there; done that. Standing idle at the suffering of others is a cowardly of actions man can do. I wish there were more people like Trent.

Glad you liked it, Sergey. Even though I never directly experienced bullying, I was the one who had to defend my brother who is more of a lover than a fighter.

Oh, I take that back. I did experience bullying at the hands of a verbally abusive alcoholic boss. I defended myself pretty well, but had to end up leaving the job or else I would go crazy.
