Paul Hollis | 303 comments ok. we got this great technology that books can be delivered wirelessly to our edevice(in my case my comp-I got the Kindle for pc app)within seconds so..WHY CAN'T THEY USE PAGE NUMBERS?

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 2035 comments LOL....I know what you mean. My nook actually uses page numbers, but sometimes when I pick the goodreads ebook version, I don't get page numbers.

Paul Hollis | 303 comments I know it's a small thing but it just bugs me.

message 4: by Lori (new)

Lori | 1318 comments My Nook uses page numbers too, but I always think they're off which irks me.

Guido Henkel (guidohenkel) | 244 comments The reason is very simple. Depending on how large your text selection is the text will flow differently. At the smallest text size a book may have 50 pages, while at the largest text size it may have 250 pages.

That is the reason why page numbers are pretty much useless in eBook readers as long as the look/presentation can be adjusted by the user.

Paul Hollis | 303 comments ok, I knew the reason was probably simple like that.....so it's not a conspiracy LOL

message 7: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3233 comments Actually, some Kindle books now use page numbers along with the location numbers.

message 8: by A. (new)

A. Rosaria | 13 comments Well they could use page numbers if everybody agreed to that a certain amount of words constitue a page, then withing the OS of the ereader you could calculate the page numbers or at formatting.

message 9: by Paul (new)

Paul Hollis | 303 comments well, I guess has more editions/updates come out they will get the kinks worked out hopefully

Not on the Nook. No matter what font size you use, the total pages always remains the same.

Gatorman | 8320 comments Yea, I have a Nook and the page numbering is always the same regardless of font size or margins.

message 12: by Eileen (new)

Eileen I've never had problems with page numbers with my Nook.

message 13: by Paul (new)

Paul Hollis | 303 comments then it's just a Kindle thing then

message 14: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Why are you people so obsessed with page numbers? :-)

message 15: by Paul (new)

Paul Hollis | 303 comments I keep up with books and pages I read in Excel....I don't know maybe it's an OCD thing?

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 1471 comments LOL! I thought I had some quirks. I use to keep an excel spreadsheet of every book I ever owned that I could sort by all sorts of crazy categories. Somewhere along the line I lost it in a computer crash and it nearly crushed me! Now I just use Goodreads to keep track.

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 1471 comments Well at least know that I understand :)

message 19: by Paul (new)

Paul Hollis | 303 comments most of my friends get that glazed over look in their eyes when I mention it!

message 20: by jb (new)

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 2035 comments LOL I had started an excel page and then my books got moved about and now I cannot reach a majority of them. I have to look at my husband and and point to the location and color and title of the book.

My nook page numbers don't change either....I can be on page 88 for a few turns....LOL

message 21: by Scott (new)

Scott Nicholson (scottnicholson) | 97 comments it can be important for researchers and people writing papers who need citations. For most fiction readers, it doesn't matter, especially since the Kindle saves your place for you.
