Renee Hello everyone!

I am a new member of this amazing group! I was wondering how long has the group been together and do you have get togethers?

Thanks!

Renee

message 2: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Hiya and welcome, Renee!

I think the group was established around November last year and we don't have get-togethers per se, but hey, if there's someone in your area you'd like to meet then ask away.

Enjoy the group.

Hi Renee...
Yeah, Mandy might be right, we should be coming up on about a year soon, as far as how long we have been here.

The group only started growing like crazy over the last 4-6 months... we have soo many new members now it is unreal!

And as Mandy pointed out, no... we havent ever met face to face.. tho to celebrate for our 5 year anniversary, wouldnt it be funny to try to book a place for 800+ people to hang out for a day... we could have our own BOOK CONVENTION... how cool would that be!!!

message 4: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) A book convention would be fun!!

message 5: by Santina (new)

Santina (littlesaintina) | 76 comments OMG That would be such cool thing to try to do. I wonder if something like that would actually work.

Why doesn't everyone meet me here in Vancouver in 2010. Mind you I can't fit 800 people in my apartment, but I am 15 minutes from an olympic venue...lol.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

I can think of one other book group that had annual get-togethers. I don't know how many members they were dealing with, however.

message 7: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Doesn't Constant Reader do a convention?

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, that's the one! Every year it would be in a different place.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Holy cow. We could all just meet in Time Square. Wouldn't that be convenient Lori?

Lori (tnbbc) | 10622 comments Mod
Heck yeah, for me it would! I think all 800 of us should take turns hosting it in our home towns... that way, the rest of us get to see a pc of the country/world that we would never have been to otherwise!!!

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

My home town! We'd have to meet in a field because there is no place big enought to...wait a minute, we could bombard WalMart and just loiter. Wouldn't that piss 'em off.

message 12: by ScottK (new)

ScottK | 535 comments Awhile back there was a huge story about a guy who lived in a walmart for some time if I remember , he elluded security and night stockers, I think he was there for like a week ??? was that you Jeremy?

message 13: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments I've always been partial to these people that lived in a mall for 2+ years. That's dedication to consumerism.

That is so strange, yet what a way to make a statement!

message 15: by Sharee (new)

Sharee | 53 comments Hey Renee! (Nice name, btw.) Yeah, the best way I've found to "get together" is to add to discussions and read what everyone's been up to! Virtual, yes, but MUCH less expensive than traveling around the country daily, wouldn't you say?? :) Ah ha ha!! This, btw, is coming from a world class broke woman! I nevah have money, though maybe I should just set up my own charitable fund where people could just give me money for free! That'd be nice! I'd probably call it the Penniless Person fund and tell everyone that the money would go for a good cause: my personal book purchases! ;P

Kirsty (kirstyreadsandcreates) | 610 comments This is a wonderful idea.. but just not do-able for me - too much money from the UK!

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Hahahaha! Yeah, I was that guy chilling out near the baby wipes section.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Renee. Welcome to the group. Lots of great reading recommends here.

The Book Whisperer (aka Boof) Kirsty, not unless everyone comes over here. We could all meet between yours and my house (in the middle of the Pennines, say, LOL) - that's plent of room.

message 20: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments There's no reason why our Brit contingent can't have their own personal meet-up. Maybe the Swedes can join you.

message 21: by Liz (new)

Liz (hissheep) Playing dumb here - what is TNBBC???

message 23: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Welcome to the group Renee.

message 24: by Renee (new)

Renee Thanks everyone for the big welcome! TNBBC is a huge group but I don't feel invisible! I love it here!

When I travel, I check out the locations of independent bookstores and will visit them (and spends hours and $$$). I thought I could do the same thing with members of this group - you know the saying "a reader in every port"! hahaha I understand the need for privacy but if I was to travel to Boston in October, I could let the group know and meet people at Quincy Market for a cup of clam chowdah!

message 25: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Welcome Renee!
