John Champneys (andavane) | 36 comments I have the book "Cedilla" by Adam Mars-Jones in hard back.
The ISBN for that is: 978-0-571-24536-9

I also have the Kindle edition, ISBN: 978-0-571-27229-7
which Goodreads doesn't recognise.

I do have difficulty adding e-books in general, and Kindle books in particular, viz: when it gets to locations, I can't put, say "2537/10,034" as this is this often the best way of describing where you're at.

I've read the thread:

http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/3...

and sadly don't feel much wiser.

Any comments on this very welcome.
I'm from the generation when PC's weren't available, so forgive my appearing "thick" ;)

Kind regards

John

Jan (janoda) | 140 comments Dear John,
Kindle books don't have ISBN's as their standard number but ASIN's. (Some have both, but most have only the ASIN, which is why the system wants you to input the ASIN.)

As for the locations, when you are in the update box, if you click on the page link it switches to percentage, which is a perfect way to update how far you are in kindle books.

I do believe all Kindle programs offer percentage (I know Kindle for Mac does.)

Hope this helped. I went ahead and added the Kindle version to the system, you can find it here:

John Champneys (andavane) | 36 comments Dear Jan

Thanks very much Jan, for digging this out!
When I delved deeper, I found that "ASIN" number as part of the title of the ebook, viz:

It's very odd that in the Faber ebook, a number is listed as ISBN, which is different from the one in the printed version.

I'm interested that the ASIN page lists it as 500 pages, which is wrong (it's 733 pages).

It might be an idea to ask Faber.

As a matter of interest, how did you find the ASIN?

Kind regards, John

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments John, Kindle ebooks are usually separate editions from other ebooks. It looks like there is a non-Kindle ebook edition with the ISBN you gave; since it doesn't appear to be sold through any of our feeder sites, I added it manually, here:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10...

So now there are three editions of this book: hardcover, Kindle, and ebook.

John Champneys (andavane) | 36 comments Cheers...
Does this mean that my Kindle edition has *two* numbers, an ISBN and an ASIN, I wonder?
Curiouser and curiouser.

Kindle editions don't have ISBNs listed -- that's Amazon policy.

John Champneys (andavane) | 36 comments aha! ... Yes!
I see from their site: "For books, the ASIN is the same as the ISBN number". So one wonders why it's different in this case.

Presumably because Kindle editions are Amazon-exclusive editions.
