I teach 6th grade language arts in Austin. A couple days ago I assigned a poem to my students - they could follow a certain format if they wished but it needed to contain similes and metaphors, etc. Here's the kicker: I had a kid who tried to turn in "Tiger Tiger, Burning Bright" by William Blake as his poem. While I was rather livid at the moment, we dealt with it as a team, and now it's rather funny to me.

Just wanted to share.

That is funny, sad but funny. Atleast they had to read a poem or two to find one that fit your criteria. How funny would it have been if you hailed them as literary wonders and asked to enter their works in a national competition. I would pay to have seen their faces.

That rhyme issue has always bothered me too! You get in this great, almost primal rhythm with the first two three lines, and then..."Symmetry?" Oh well, I can't really try to up William Blake.
