Mark (slvrshmrk) | 6 comments I must suggest Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K Jerome. For those of you who aren't prepared to run out and buy it, you can get the ebook for free on Readprint.com. Even if you don't dig English humor of the travelogue persuasion, there is a chance you may like (or love) it. It takes place in the 1890s, and chronicles the misadventures of three gentleman taking a holiday on the Thames River. I won't say anything else about this wonderful book, because I'd hate to give too much away.

Kathrina | 50 comments Love, love this book. Also, a nice follow up is Willis' To Say Nothing of the Dog, not just because it's a great book in its own right, but because Willis so obviously loves Three Men, as well. Mark, have you read Jerome's sequel, Three Men on the Bummel? I picked it up at a used book store, but haven't gotten to it yet.

Mark (slvrshmrk) | 6 comments Yes, I've read it. It's still charming and hilarious, but for me, it didn't match Three Men in a Boat. That doesn't mean I didn't laugh out load through the whole book though!

Laura (laurazal) It is a wonderful book indeed! I am not an Englishwoman, nevertheless, I find this book both exceptionally good and amusing. I believe that years ago my parents suggested me to read it. Naturally, following good-old family tradition, I recommended it to my 13 years old daughter and she also loved it.

Avrelia | 4 comments Oh, yes, no matter how many times I read it, in English or in Russian, it is hilarious. Humour of this book - not all of it, but enough translates well across cultures. From the very beginning - "I never read a patent medicine advertisement without being impelled to the conclusion that I am suffering from the particular disease therein dealt with in its most virulent form. The diagnosis seems in every case to correspond exactly with all the sensations that I have ever felt." - it's funny because it's ever true.

Jen | 2 comments I hope we decide on this book because Ive already downloaded it and am holding odd starting. Plus today I received an unsolicited copy of A Fierce Radiance in the mail, from the publisher but no note or exhortation to buy more etc., what's up with that?,,,never happened before. Anyone else?
