Also, going from your "Read" list, I think you may like Three Seconds, The Woman in White, The Hotel New Hampshire, I Know This Much Is True and Fall on Your Knees.
I also recommend Jeffrey Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme series.

I have read Mistry's Such a Long Journey and have always considered reading his other books!

The Shadow of the Wind
City of Thieves
The Book Thief
The Road
The Thirteenth Tale

Have you read anything by Jonathan Safran Foer? I loved both of his fiction books, but Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is probably the most accessible of the two.
I really loved I Know This Much Is True. It's big, but it never felt long (does that make sense?). I flew through it in two days and was bummed when it was over. I also have to throw in my vote for The Book Thief and The Shadow of the Wind.
Hmmm... a few others:
The Little Stranger - Sarah Waters
The Corrections - Jonathan Franzen
All Families Are Psychotic - Douglas Coupland
Never Let Me Go - Kazuo Ishiguro
Kafka on the Shore - Haruki Murakami (there are a lot of other Murakami books, but this is the only one I've read so far)
In the Woods, The Likeness, and Faithful Place - Tana French (these are books 1-3 of a "series", but they are really stand alone books that don't have to be read in order)
I hope this helps a little! :o)

I can't wait to read that one!

You could try:
Henning Mankell - Faceless Killers (Wallander book 1)
Karin Fossum - Don't Look Back (Sejer Book 1)
James Thompson - Snow Angels (also a book 1)
