Ben Petry (benpetry) | 6 comments Hello again, goodreads community! My name is Ben Petry, and I'd like to set aside this thread to talk a little about my new book, "The Wizard of Roaming Hall."

It's an epic, sweeping adventure tale about a young Chantling--a creature best described as being "half what it is and half what it isn't"--named Duck Ducaine, who has just begun his apprenticeship under the enchanter Eli. Before long, Duck bears witness to a very peculiar natural occurrence that signifies the awakening of an age old foe.

Thrust into a conflict that predates him by centuries, Duck must now journey to Roaming Hall, where the wizard Arcevyl has long dwelt in secrecy. Though Arcevyl bears no particular allegiance to the side of "good," he's the only person in the Land who can aid Duck in his quest to defeat the kingdom's ancient enemy and end a forgotten war that has smoldered in the hearts of some and is on the cusp of outbreak. Duck quickly learns, however, that the wizard has designs of his own and is not to be trusted.

"The Wizard of Roaming Hall" begins a four-part fantasy tale 14 years in the making. Though it carries Duck through the depths of despair and darkness to the heights of a joyful yet bittersweet victory, at the story's core are humor, friendship and heart. It's a fantastical look at what it means to have true courage, and what it means to accept and live up to our life's purpose.

Ben Petry (benpetry) | 6 comments My aim was to put it within grasp of middle school age and up, but I've been told by my reader reviewers that the vocab is still a little tough for that age bracket. I suppose that makes it a YA book.
