Franki (frankilane) Children of the Night and Burning Water by Mercedes Lackey are labeled wrong. Children of the Night should be labeled as #1 and Burning water as #2. I am reading the compilation of the Diana Tregarde books and they go children of the night, burning water, jinx high.

[ JT ] | 51 comments Hm, I don't think this is true. If you look at Ms. Lackey's website:

(search for Diana Tregarde to get there quickly)

The order is as currently stated in GR series info.

Burning Water was published first and is listed first on the author's website.

Franki (frankilane) Okay well that's not how it was published in Diana Tregarde Investigates and it isn't the timeline in the books. So I assumed it was wrong and I would have been a bit confused had I got them separately instead of in the one book.

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments I just dug out my copy of Children of the Night and it lists Burning Water as the first book in its series. That may not match the internal chronology of the books, but series aren't always numbered by internal chronology.

Someone could do up a separate "Diana Tregarde (Internal Chronology)" series, if they know how all the stories line up. (I have no recollection of where Jinx High falls, I'm afraid, and I don't think I've even read most of those short stories.)

Shay | 177 comments From some of the reviews, it looks like that is the order they were published in. But, Children of the Night is a prequel. So, I don't know the rules on what to do with prequels.

message 7: by willaful (new)

willaful It's possible to do two versions, one chronological order and one publication order.

Franki (frankilane) I didn't think to look it up before I said something. I just know had I read Burning Water first I doubt I'd have read the others because it talks about characters that you have no connection to because they are established in (what I now know to be the prequel) Children of the Night....

Oh well...

Sue Bowling (sueannbowling) | 36 comments Jinx High is the last one, and rather an abrupt cutoff. I think there was some sort of a problem that she didn't go on with that series. (Based only on a short story she wrote.)
