I found that it suffered because some of the gods, ancient or modern, weren't interesting. Wednesday, Czernobog and Anansi made a nice little gang of mischief makers, though.
I had to reference loads of the gods, too. I don't know if it helped the story, but I loved all of the extra reading up.

Yeah it's a good point Andy but maybe we need to apply the same logic that Annie suggested towards these "new" gods too. Annie suggested that if these gods existed because of our belief in them, then their physical incarnation may look like our stereotypes.
Anyone else think this would make a good movie? I'm thinking Ian McKellen for wednesday, and for some reason I've got Bruce Willis stuck in my head for shadow.

I think far too much would be lost if it was made into a movie. And Bruce Willis is way too old to play Shadow.

I agree with Declan: Bruce Willis doesn't fit for Shadow in my head. Shadow is supposed to be a big, dark-skinned, Indian-ish young man. I think Dwayne Johnson would be more appropriate. I would say it could be made into a decent movie, but I would end up hating it. The only way I usually like movies based on books is if I watch the movie before I read the book. Otherwise, I tend to be too critical of the movie. The movies just never compare to the books, and the creative differences the directors make in the story always makes me feel like they've mutilated a friend. Lol. Anyone else have that problem?

I reckon it could be made into a good movie, BUT a lot of things could go wrong and completely destroy it. If they turn it into a "washed-out superhero" movie, I'll cry. On the other hand, with a good Scriptwriter and Director, they could pull this off.
Yeah I tend to cast every book I read haha. I even ignore the descriptions sometimes. You're probably right about Willis, but he's stuck in my head now. Still...Ian McKellan would be great as Wednesday.
I'd be shocked if they can pull this off, but I will go to see it. Admit it guys. You're already interested, aren't you. When I watch an adaptation I tend to compare them the whole time. McKellan would be pull it off. He was made for these huge theatrical roles. I'd like to see Michael Gambon, though. As for Shadow, I can't decide.
Pleas god! No more Nick Cage. Ghost Rider was an abomination.

can't help feel they could be fleshed out a bit more - instead of fatboy for technology/internet feel some sort of swarm entity would work better
maybe they just suffer when compared to the mythological figures because I'm using wikipedia to build a picture of those characters - adds to the story for me
