Jeremysparks | 105 comments I'd like to know your opinions of which beverage is appropriate with your current reading material. I'm reading Worlds Fair by Doctorow. I'm thinking lemonade works. I can really picture a stand on the corner of 1930's NY. ??

message 2: by Karendenice (new)

Karendenice I never thought about that. :) I guess coffee would be my choice right now. I'm reading a mystery and the caffeine helps add tension to the book.

Adrienne Teague (ateague) | 409 comments I'm reading several books.

So, with The Black Tower which is French, I'm thinking it must be wine.

And with Unfamiliar Fishes about Hawaii, maybe Pineapple juice?

But forThe World Is Blue about the way humans are killing the oceans, I've got now idea. Salt water? Ugh.

message 4: by Petra (new)

Petra Adrienne, maybe rum would be a seafaring drink?

message 5: by Petra (new)

Petra I'm reading two books right now.
For Swann's Way, I would drink wine and for Shadow Divers it would have to be Pepsi because they drink it in the book.

Ah, excellent suggestion! I believe I have some of that in my cupboard.

Meg (mkop359) What a neat post - I just finished reading The Forgotten Garden and would definitely have to say tea would fit best with that. Perhaps the special blend of one part Breakfast (English of course) and two parts Earl Gray spoken of in the book (or was it two parts Earl Gray and one part Breaksfast)... Now I'm going to have to try some when I get home tonight!

message 8: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jenninohio) Interesting... my book of poems by Charles Bukowski makes me want to tie one on at a local dive bar and then go home and sober up with a pot of black coffee!

I'll just save my self the trouble and stick with the coffee! :)

message 9: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (thisoilfieldwife) | 134 comments I generally just drink coffee when I'm reading, or a glass of iced sweet tea. Mmmm. Depends on what time of day it is, but I normally drink coffee...

message 10: by Diana (new)

Diana | 31 comments I have seen this kind of question on another group and I find it really interesting that some think of these... I never really made connections between reading and drink, only my feelings... when I am angry and I read, I have a glass of wine or a beer to calm myself down, when not, coke or water does the trick... :)
But I really find it great that some of you have such deep connections to books, that you think about matching drinks as well...

message 11: by Rosanna (new)

Rosanna (rosannabell) | 125 comments This reminds me of a book I have called Read It and Eat by Sarah Gardner. It's designed for a book club and features menus to go along with the books. I like this concept a lot, since cooking and reading are two of my favorite things! I also, believe that the food and drink of a culture and people give us a glimpse of who they are. In a way cooking--like reading--can transport us to that place. Anyway, I just finished reading The Ghost Trap by K. Stephens and I would have to say I'd drink a PBR and have fresh caught Maine lobster with a side of corn on the cob (sighs dreamily).

message 12: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicasey) It's always coffee! In the warmer months it's just iced coffee instead. Okay, sometimes I switch to iced tea. :D

message 13: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne Teague (ateague) | 409 comments So I'm reading A Discovery of Witches. Any drink thoughts for this one?

message 14: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicasey) Something that looks frothy, like stuff in a smoking cauldron maybe?

message 15: by Allison (new)

Allison (sockweasel) | 432 comments I always think about this thread when I'm reading. :)

Right now I'm reading The Night Circus, and the drink of choice for this one has to be apple cider. :)

Esther (eshchory) | 575 comments While I'm actually reading - only water.
Anything else is too distracting and with water any drips or spills aren't too disastrous.

Yuliya (yuliyalovestoread) | 1685 comments Hot strong coffe and hot black tea

message 18: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Barlow | 101 comments Usually I want to drink whatever is being drank in the book. With a Patricia Cornwell book I always want Red Wine, but with alot of American books I crave a Starbucks. Don't know why this is, I do prefer drinking wine while im reading but have to be careful to keep track or can't remember what ive read the morning after.

message 19: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1956 comments Like Water for Chocolate would have to be a margarita and Rich Man, Poor Man either very cheap beer or very expensive wine.

message 20: by Samantha McNulty (new)

Samantha McNulty I'm reading Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen. The most appropriate drink for Austen has to be Tea!

message 21: by Will (new)

Will Todd Currently reading: "Lord Hornblower" by C.S. Forester

I have the same thing with food! The Patricia Cornwell books are a good 'source' of italian food ;)

And I think I 'discovered' eating a peanut butter/piccalilly sandwich from Kinsey Millhone in a Sue Grafton book...

message 23: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Coffee. Always coffee.
