Sorry, did not mean to come across like an attack, I was just surprised. Hey its all taste, I loved Lust Lizard and my friend who likes Moore hated that book. All good bro!

Janet This is my all time favorite Christopher Moore book. I think it's because he manages to be funny without being sacrireligious which is a tough line to toe. I also really liked A Dirty Job but was disappointed in Fool.

Rachel This book is the best. if your christianity is easily offended i would skip this one though. this is his best work and will keep you laughing the whole way through!

You won't be disappointed if you pick this one up before next year. This is one of the best books I've read, even compared to other Christopher Moore novels.

Jennifer I personally loved it and thought it was one of the funniest books I have ever read, but then again, I also loved the movie Dogma.

Foul97 read fluke extremely funny

L.S. Murphy Christopher Moore is brilliant! Lamb is a great read.

Cyndi This is definitely a hilarious, irreverent and thought provoking piece of work. Biff is so practical, the perfect sidekick to Joshua.

Really enjoyed this, it lead me to read the other works of Mr. Moore. It is one to read over and over.

Donald Christopher Moore is a great humorist and writer. I have never came accrose one of his books yet that I did not like. I just finaished Lamb. It started strong and I couldn't put it down. Then about halfway through it began to lag for me, but still a worthwile read.

message 62: by Jes (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jes I loved this book. Not only is it hilarious (Jesus drinks coffee for the first time... love that scene!), but he did a pretty good job setting everything in its historical context. Moore isn't really known for that kinda thing, so it was surprising in a good way!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE his stuff, but i couldn't finish Fluke. It was so bad.

Donna Christopher Moore rocks my stripey socks! Love the Vampire trilogy, Dirty Job, and Lamb. Looking forward to Sacre Bleu. The audio versions are fabulous.

Susie D.M. wrote: "Boy, this could either be very clever and entertaining, or completely suck. I'm leaning toward the latter, but I'll add it to the list for reading sometime next year or so..."

Um, no, it doesn't suck at all. It is amazing and hilarious.

Donalee I too love this book...have yet to read any of his other works but after reading this one i am determined =) It made me want to actually read more of the bible, if that makes sense lol While i know its complete fiction, i almost sort of pictured Jesus having done these sorts of things, had those conversations, being more laid back than hes sometimes portrayed as. This book opened my eyes to the more laid back "real" JC if you will lol I thouroughly enjoyed it! Have read it several times, and it always makes my heart smile =)

message 68: by J (new) - rated it 5 stars

J This book was HILARIOUS!! I cried I was laughing so hard. I was taking public transportation at the time the people in the bus must have thought I was out crazy.

Katherine I adored this book. Like, I enjoyed it on a level that makes this one of my favorite books, and I reread it at least twice a year. It is so funny, especially Biff trying to teach Joshua that sin is...dirty! Hahaha. This book is just amazingly well done and very touching, both on the funny bone and your emotions. This book totally gets 5 stars.

message 70: by Ayal (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ayal my god i laughed so hard at this book, didnt even know who christopher moore was!!!!

message 71: by Erin (new) - rated it 5 stars

Erin I've found that while Moore's work tends to be kind of hit or miss, Lamb is definitely the best. It's not just my favorite Moore book, it's my favorite book in general. He did a wonderful job.

Tamara I finished it last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was, at times, very funny, but it was also a great story about friendship. I loved "the missing years" and was actually pretty heart-broken at the end, even though I knew what was coming.

Moore included this anonymous quote & I think it sums up the book's humor perfectly:

Nobody's perfect - well there was this one guy, but we killed him.

William Pam, you might want to consider Louis de Berneries for your college students. He is rich in humor, horror, and humanity. Try The War of Don Emmanuel's Nether Parts or Corelli's Mandolin.

Jerry Zehr This is a great book- you have to be willing to enjoy irreverent humor- which I think Jesus would

Jerry Zehr If you like this book you would like my new novel Blurring The Lines ....

message 76: by Josh (new) - rated it 5 stars

Josh Thoroughly enjoyed this book! One of Moore's best! Amongst those that I have recommended it to... they either love it or are offended by the flippant portrayal of Jesus.

When Moore mines old literature for material (the Bible, King Lear), he either hits a home run or strikes out. This is a home run!

Was excited to read Sacre Bleu, but half way though, just plumb ran out of yuks - like unplugging a record player mid-song.

message 77: by Ruth (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ruth Loved this book. Dirty Job was the first Moore book I read and could not stop laughing. I also liked Bite Me. I have Sacre Bleu but haven't started to read it yet.

Charleen I loved this book! At times it felt a little sacrieigious. Read it with a light heart and you will find it is a hoot! Made me laugh a lot - now that is good for the sole.

message 80: by Jack (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jack This is one of those books that you buy Many copies and never end up with one on your shelf, I have shared many books , illusions (bach) the alchemist, some fav fantasy, ect
This novel has a strange turn around as it travels its literary road trying to find where this book belong's , I will say right now as it gets passed around it will be liked, hated, thrown away picked back up to get thrown again, many will say it is not Their's with a secret chuckle....some will claim the is one of the worst books they have seen, what I am saying is Everybody that reads this book will have an opinion, I suggest you read and find what your will be. =)

Albert Chris Moore is pretty awesome, irreverent in all the right ways! I'm currently reading Sacre Bleu but my favorite is hands down Fool.

Kerri I love Christopher Moore and this book is hands-down my favorite of his. He approaches the idea of Jesus as a real person and paints such a touching, funny, poignant picture of Jesus and his friends that you will find yourself laughing while tears are running down your face. Read it now; you won't regret it. Oh, and you'll know in the first chapter if you're gonna' love or hate it, fyi

Robert Strupp Truly an outstanding book that attempts to fill-in, albeit with comical effect, the unrecorded three decade gap in Jesus' life prior to His death. What should give my review weight, is that the only reason I am still alive to pen never-read critiques of 'anti-Christian' writings, is that Jesus stepped into my life. Twice.

Author Christopher Moore could not have handled the subject of Jesus' lost years with more respect; especially to the person of Jesus Christ Himself.

Moore ends this incredibly entertaining work with an Afterward that touches on the vast research compost heap that the prior 402 pages grew out of. In one of the last paragraphs he states:

"This story is not and never was meant to challenge anyone's faith; however, if one's faith can be shaken by stories in a humorous novel, one may have a bit more praying to do."

Do not misunderstand me, this story, due more to sexual situations, than to spiritual taffy pulls, will never, ever, find its way to any Bible study group.

Reading Lamb would throw me into fits of uncontrollable laughter or simply see me shaking my head in wonderment over how brilliantly author Moore wove his story using the Bible, known historical fact, and just plain made-up stuff.

Unlike Gore Vidal's outstanding novel, Messiah, which was intended to be a thought-provoking work about a modern day Christ-like figure, Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal, has no religious beliefs to crucify, disprove or vilify.

The meat of this book is involved with Jesus and Biff (given name Levi bar Alphaeus) tracking down, living with, and learning esoteric skills from each of The Three Magi who were at the manger-birth of Jesus. I recommend you read this book. I have put it on my list of all-time best books.

Begun: 05/19/2005 Finished: 06/26/2005

Brent Mosher ...simply hilarious.

Neila This was the first book I read by Christopher Moore and it made me a fan. I actually laughed out loud while reading it. I absolutely loved every minute of it.

Tasula For anyone still looking for comments- this book is FABULOUS. This is Moore's least goofy book- but for the goofier ones that you should also read- The Stupidest Angel, The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove, Island of the Sequined Love Nun.

Wendy Lisa wrote: "I've never heard of this author! I'm definitely putting this title on my "to read" list!"

I would recommend reading "Bite Me" first. I think it's Moore's best works.

message 88: by Debi (new) - rated it 4 stars

Debi Loved this book!! It was as good if not better than Dirty Jobs. I'll be searching for another Moore book for my summer reading list to put between the 'heavier' plot books. Love to be reading and just laugh out loud on the beach!

Try Sacré Bleu: A Comedy d'Art. It's about Van Gogh. I haven't read it yet, but it's his latest, and is supposed to be FANTASTIC. I have it on authority of many experienced readers. ;)

And, plus...MOORE ON VAN GOGH. This cannot end badly. Not possible.

message 90: by Josh (new) - rated it 5 stars

Josh you must also love tom robbins?

Robert Strupp DEBI, even though I'm a huge Christian, I loved this book too! The research Moore did was meticulous. Sadly, I've not found another of his books this good. It may be his masterpiece.

message 92: by Jon (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jon I like all of Moore's books, but Lamb is my favorite hands down.

@Sara & Debi,
I think it might be better to wait with Sacre Bleu and read his other books first.

message 93: by Mark (new) - rated it 4 stars

Mark Finnemore Never laughed and thought so much at the same time.

Catherine I actually didn't care for Lamb all that much. I mean, I enjoyed the read. It was certainly entertaining, but I thought that the humor was cheap in some areas and forced in others.

message 95: by D.L. (new) - rated it 5 stars

D.L. "LAMB" is one of the best books I have ever read. I have given it as a gift countless times. While I write deadly kinky thrillers, I love to read Chris Moore. Honestly some are not as fabulous as others, but to me, this is the Top of the list of his works.

message 96: by Susan (new) - rated it 1 star

Susan Morgan I hated this book so much I couldn't finish it. I got 2/3 of the way through and couldn't help wondering "what's so funny about this book". I am among those that feel it is disrespectful and sacrilegious. This book was actually recommended by a church group which surprised me after I read it.

message 97: by Dee (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dee I know many church groups who have read it and enjoyed it - I mean, ultimately, the bible was written by men, it has been edited through time - stories pick and chosen on what to include - so why not something funny from another perspective - how do we know what went on in those intervening 30 years

Bookerkc I started this about a year ago and could not get into it. I picked it up again after reading the Bible all the way through. The timing was not on purpose but this time I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think Moore really did his research into the Old Testament. Yes, the language and some situations are sophomoric but get past that and listen to what he's saying and not how he's saying it. I kinda hope Jesus did have a friend like Biff.:)

Felix My favorite Moore by far...

message 100: by Liz (new) - rated it 5 stars

Liz Northshield i love any book that can make me laugh out loud - even in a crowded place - even if i don't know anyone around me - this book had me howling
