Aynge (ayngemac) | 1202 comments On a current series, I mean.

For me, it's a tie between Dr. Sheldon Cooper and U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens.

message 2: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments The first thing that popped into my head was Castle and Beckett. They're both funny and smart and easy on the eyes.

message 3: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Oh, good choices both. I may have to go with a tie between Dr. Sheldon Cooper and Beckett.

Steven Tyler on "American Idol."

He's the character whom, along with guitarist Joe Perry, chased the dragon for two-plus decades in the fictitious Boston band Aerosmith, producing four or five of the best hard rock albums of the 70's along the way before getting clean in the late 80's and immediately pandering to the MTV crowd with power ballads and sharing Super Bowl stages with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.

The writers sure feed him some funny lines.

All-time:

Mr. Haney on "Green Acres"
Lurch from the "Addams Family"
Buckwheat from "The Little Rascals"
Archie Bunker
Aunt Esther from "Sanford and Son"

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Raylan Givens is the motherfucking MAN, but I gotta give it up for his nemesis, Boyd Crowder. I find myself rooting for him and his devious schemes.

Are we talking current fictional TV characters, or all-time? Current, I would add Don Draper and Dr. Walter Bishop.

All-Time:

Captain James Tiberius Kirk
Mr. Spock
Number Six
Emma Peel
Al Bundy
Kara Thrace
Lt. Frank Columbo

message 6: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Who is Raylan Givens? And Boyd Crowder?

Don Draper is an excellent addition to the list.

I think she said current only.

I'm still not sure if I'm choosing based on who entertains me in the context of their show, or who I would like to hang out with. I thought Castle and Beckett fit both bills.

message 7: by Aynge (last edited Apr 06, 2011 09:34AM) (new)

Aynge (ayngemac) | 1202 comments I like Castle, too, but right now I'm sort of on the outs with the show. They keep teasing me and I'm getting sick of it. Beckett is cool but she doesn't have much of a sense of humor.

Raylan and Boyd are from FX's Justified, the best show on TV right now. Boyd is awesome, and while he's doing good things, I still see him as a bad guy so I can't quite root for him yet. I really love Ray-Ray's boss, Art. He's hilarious, but he's only in the show like, two minutes a week, if at all.

message 8: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments What show are Boyd and Raylan from??? Y'all are not helpful.

I think Beckett has a sense of humor, especially when she's teasing Castle about what she got up to at his daughter's age.

message 9: by Mark (new)

Mark Burns (TheFailedPhilosopher) | 441 comments Dr. Sheldon Cooper

message 10: by Aynge (new)

Aynge (ayngemac) | 1202 comments I'm so happy Jim Parsons is finally winning all the awards.

message 11: by Stina (new)

Stina (stinalee) | 749 comments I would have drinks with ANY of the characters on Modern Family!

message 12: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments OK, I had to answer my own damn question. Boyd and Raylan are from some show called Justified.

message 13: by Aynge (new)

Aynge (ayngemac) | 1202 comments I love Christine Baranski as Leonard's mom on The Big Bang Theory.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Sorry, Sarah!

Aynge, I loved the episode where Art had to chase the emphysema-suffering bank robber at the airport; that had to be the funniest chase scene I've ever seen.

message 15: by Jammies (new)

Jammies How are we defining favorite? Train wrecks you love to watch but wouldn't want to know, like Don Draper and Sheldon Cooper? People you wish were your next door neighbors, like Wilson from Tool Time? People who remind you of yourself, like Ko and Endorra?

message 16: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I was going with 'love to watch' regardless of want to know. Want to know would definitely be a different group. Well, actually, I think I could have a beer with Castle and Beckett. All my other favorites are on NBC Thursday night comedies, and I don't think any of them would be particularly good human beings in real life. OK, maybe Pam from the Office, or Amy Ryan's character.

Aynge (ayngemac) | 1202 comments Gus wrote: "Aynge, I loved the episode where Art had to chase the emphysema-suffering bank robber at the airport; that had to be the funniest chase scene I've ever seen."

Yeah, that was hilarious! He said: "If you run, I'm gonna put a bullet in that tank. You remember the end of Jaws?"

message 18: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments don draper, peggy olson, sheldon cooper, castle & beckett, bones and booth and many more.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Temperance Brennan and Seely Booth from Bones, right now.

Gus and I are on the same page with previous tv shows. Well, except for Al Bundy. I'd add:

Buffy Summers
Spike
Rupert Giles
Carl Kolchak
John Steed
Dana Scully
Fox Mulder
Ranger Marcus Cole
James Rockford
Sgt. Dietrich
Sherlock Holmes

message 20: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I like both Bones and Beckett. It's funny how their shows/characters are similar in some ways but completely different in others. But I like them both.

I also like, uh, the guy on Modern Family who's married to the Columbian woman over whom Kevin lusts, the guy who used to be on Married With Children.

I love Troy and Abed on Community, too. And Tina Fey's character on 30 Rock.

message 21: by Aynge (new)

Aynge (ayngemac) | 1202 comments I can't wait for Sherlock BBC to return. That's only six months from now.

message 22: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Ha! Yes, now I can hear her saying "Jay"....

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh goodness, how could I forget those two?

I have a close friend who is so much like Abed, it's frightening.

janine | 7709 comments yes, troy and abed too, and sherlock.

Brittomart Everyone from the Bluth-Funke family
Jeff Winger from Community
Leslie Knope!

message 28: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Castle and Becket are from the show Castle.
Bluth-Funke family is Arrested Development.
Jeff Winger and Abed are from the excellent NBC comedy Community.
Boyd and Raylan are from Justified.
Leslie Knope is Amy Poehler's starry eyed character in Parks & Rec
Dr. Sheldon Cooper is Big Bang Theory.
I don't know the rest.

message 29: by Brittomart (new)

Brittomart Cole from Martin

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Ranger Marcus Cole is from Babylon 5

Kara Thrace is from Battlestar Galactica, and was also called Starbuck.

message 31: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Someday I will watch BSG. I knew a horse named Starbuck, but she looked nothing like her.

message 32: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 06, 2011 01:14PM) (new)

Dr. Gregory House from House
Dr. Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds

message 33: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Sheldon Cooper is okay -- but he gets on my nerves sometimes. His girlfriend who isn't a girlfriend REALLY gets on my nerves.

Hmmmmm ... whom shall I pick?

Alicia Florrick on The Good Wife. Not because she's really hot. I really like her character.

The U.S. one. I haven't seen the British version yet.

Played by William H. Macy in the Showtime series Shameless for those who were wondering.

Tyrion from Game of Thrones
Jessica from True Blood, mostly because I have a vamp-crush on her
Marshall from How I Met Your Mother

 ~Geektastic~ (atroskity) | 3205 comments Absolute #1:
The Doctor

I could list dozens that I love, but the ultimate love-of-my-life TV character is The Doctor from Doctor Who. More specifically, Matt Smith's version of The Doctor (though Tennant's is a close second).

Runners up would include Dr. Cox from Scrubs, Brock Sampson from Venture Bros. and Bender from Futurama, to name a few.
