Ivana (ivanaerny) | 21 comments I need your help. One part of the books I've read during my life were translations from English to my mother language. As I add them or some new one that I'm currently reading to the Goodreads, should I add them under the translated title or under the original one? Same thing goes for the ones that I own, since most of them are translations too.

Thank you for your help

Always enter the title that is on the cover.

dely | 127 comments I add the books in the language I read them and then, if necessary, I combine with the other editions of the other languages.
Do you mean this?

Ivana (ivanaerny) | 21 comments Yes, that's it, Dely. Could you just, please, explain me, how to combine them? I've never did it so... Thanks

dely | 127 comments Ehm, I try (my english is not very good).
You open the page of the book and above on the right you click on "combine" and it opens a new page with all the books of that writer.
You choose your book and choose the others with the same title but in an other language and then you click again "combine".
I hope someone can explain you better :/

Sometimes they are already combined.
It happens only a few time (above all with no ISBN) that an edition is not combined.

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments dely, that sounds like a good explanation to me. :)

I'd add two things for translations:

One, if you know the original title of a translated book you can add that to the original title field at the bottom of the page (along with the original publication date, if you have it). Usually that will get put in when you combine your new edition with editions in the original language, but not always, so it's nice to enter it directly if you have it.

Two, there's a language field below the description field which can be very useful for translated books. You may also see this field set incorrectly for some existing books which were imported while there was a language bug, so if you're sure that the particular edition is in a different language from the one shown, please do change it.

Ah, that explains why some of my German books were randomly set to Indonesian or Korean. And I thought there was a practical joker behind it ;D
