Novin | 37 comments Some quotes are under tags , that aren't appropriate tags , such as : of , the ,to,be,don't,it,it's,i,...
Shall we delete tags which are nonsense?

message 2: by Melody (new)

Melody (runningtune) | 13300 comments Sounds like a huge task - but I'd say certainly delete them if they aren't true tags.

message 3: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments :Novin, If you see them you can delete them, but I wouldn't go looking for them. Those using tags to search for quotes won't be using those words.

True. And I think they were mostly put in accidentally, by people who thought tags could be an entire phrase.

message 5: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 4 comments Actually, as a soothing television watching activity, I"m working on "the" tags since they are usually from people trying to write "change the world" . Anyway we can have multi word tags? change-the-world?

I believe so, if the hyphens are there to string them together.

message 7: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 4 comments So, I think I deleted all the "the" tags. But when you look at the list of tags, "the" still shows up as having 160 quotes attached to it. however, when I click on it. No quotes are attached.

I also think I got rid of al the "of" tags as well....

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments Sarah, that 160 number will probably disappear. It's probably a caching issue. That's great that you did all that work!

No kidding! That must have taken quite a while.

How do you delete a tag? I know how to remove it from a quote, but there are many tags with no quotes - for example - http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/show_...

I'd delete it if I knew how ...

Huh. I don't know if they can be.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

There are a lot of quotes tagged with 'the' and 'of', but if the tags are deleted they'll probably turn up again.

Sibyl, isn't that usually a sign that someone tried to put a phrase in the tag field? So the quotes are going to have to be inspected one by one anyway to determine what the tags ought to be....

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm working on fixing those tags now, but it's a lot of work.

message 15: by Eva-Marie (new)

Eva-Marie Nevarez (evamarie3578) | 753 comments How can I delete a tag from a quote? I've come across lots of 'the' and 'of' before and would have deleted them had I known how.
Others times I'm just sitting here with my PCD running rampant and would love a task like that! :) Can someone instruct me? I just looked around a bit and couldn't really see any way to do it.

message 16: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments Eva, At that quote (if I remember correctly) you click on the number of people who liked it. Then, from that page, you can edit, and the tags field shows up so you can both delete and add tags in there, and then click save.

Eva-Marie Nevarez (evamarie3578) | 753 comments This group, and you guys in particular, are life-savers! I wouldn't have any idea how to do anything besides a spelling correction if it weren't for you! :) Thanks Lisa!

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments My pleasure Eva. I'm learning new things here all the time too.
