message 638: by Anne (last edited Aug 17, 2015 04:16PM) (new)

Anne F | 1 comments I'm about 3/4 of the way through Middlesex. Really enjoying it, the style is very chatty like you're having a conversation with a very interesting person. Fascinating story, well told and the technical info is presented in a manner you can understand.

Im a sucker for book lists but I really like the Gilmore reading list because it's so varied in scope.

In the few weeks, I've read Bel Canto and the Kite Runner, both are also on a list of books that are 'most addictive page turners' as well as the Gilmore book list). Anyway, both are addictive page turners! I loved both of them for the descriptive phrases and especially, the relevant history in Kite Runner. Both are keepers on my shelf.

I read Devil in the White City. Enjoyed it, the author is a master of telling "2 stories within one novel". He did this in "Isaac's Storm" as well as Devil in White city and frankly, I don't know how they can fit both stories into one upcoming movie.

I reread To Kill a Mockingbird and fell in love with her writing again. I read about half of Go Tell a Watchman and was indifferent to her writing, I doubt I'll bother to finish it.

ETA: Finished Middlesex this afternoon and I loved it! So I started
The Virgin Suicides this afternoon and so far, so good.

✨ABookGirl✨memoirs are my jam✨ (abookgirl1) | 42 comments Hi Anne!

I am doing Rory's book challenge for the same reasons. I love the diversity! I also just finished The Kite Runner. It was amazing! I recently finished The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath and highly recommend it! These 2 have definitely gone down as favorites. I am actually just about to start Oliver Twist!

Happy reading!

message 640: by [deleted user] (new)

I am almost finished with The Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri. I really like the way she writes. If this book isn't already on Rory's list, it should be. I previously read The Namesake , which Lahiri also wrote. I liked that one, too.
