Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 72 comments FIRST LET ME SAY SORRY that I have been inactive on the group!! I've been on Goodreads basically just to update my "currently reading". I graduated college and started my first term as a graduate student last month, so things have been a little hectic for me (though I did, of course, buy the new JD Robb book the day it came out!).

That being said, what I'm reading right now I am reading for a Book Marketing class. It's I Am Sorry to Think I Have Raised a Timid Son by Kent Russell. It is a book of essays, which is a genre (or is it a format??) that I've never picked up before. The organization and style of the writing is a lot different then what I'm used to, but I am enjoying the book a lot so far!

Aubrey (busy_reading_mama) | 9 comments The Girl You Left Behind by JoJo Moyes. I loved period pieces and books that follow multiple storylines around a mystery.

message 659: by Natalia (new)

Natalia (natilia) | 6 comments Now I'm start to reading Brooklyn by Colm Tóibín. Wonderful book about Ireland and about the changes when you left your family for new chances in a new land like America.

message 660: by [deleted user] (new)

I have enjoyed a few autobiographies this summer. I'm currently immersed in Maya Angelou's I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.

Lauren Harrell | 4 comments I've been trying to get through the adventures of huckleberry Finn. I don't know what it is with Mark Twain and Faulkner that makes me lose interest.

I finally read that book this year. It really left an impression on me. Definitely added to my favorites list.

Same here...sort of. I can't wait for my semester to finish next week so I can actually read for pleasure again!

Great book. Just saw the movie and it is true to the book.

I have that trouble w/other stuff by Twain, although curiously both Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn seem to hold my interest more, though the most recent time I read HF, it seemed much more episodic than I remembered. Found Connecticut Yankee too painful to push through, though I may try again at some point.

Trice I've been slowly making my way through Thucydides' History of the Peloponnesian War, mostly on subway rides - fascinating stuff, although the battle after battle after battle thing tends to blur together a bit if I read more than a chapter or 2 at one sitting.

Also reading Possession by A.S. Byatt - love! writing mystery and several layers of stories within stories. at the moment that element is making me think of the movie The Fisher King, which does an amazing job of blurring together the old traditional story with the modern story too.

message 672: by Sara (new)

Sara Hi everyone! I'm new to this club and wanted to say hello. I'm currently 300 pages into Anna Karenina! I have wanted to read it ever since taking a Russian history course in college.

Ida (bogballaden) | 5 comments I'm reading The Magicians by Lev Grossman and Let It Snow by various authors. I'm curious, has anybody read The Magicians? I can't make up my mind... Nothing's really happening in the book and there is so little dialogue, but still, I can't put it down. I think, it might be because I hope, it'll get a bit like Harry Potter... And I love being in a universe like that one again... I don't know, I'm a bit confused, haha.

I haven't picked that one up yet, but I've been meaning too - I had heard he wrote it as sort of a response to or his version of C.S. Lewis' Narnia books. I've been a bit doubtful about it, wondering, if that's his starting point, what kind of tone he sets, which is why I haven't actually picked it up, but you're making me wonder more :)

Rosareading | 6 comments I'm reading How To Be a Brit, very humorous book. Not sure whether I will make my intended book number for 2015, but I've really enjoyed reading so much more.

Hey! I was doing some research for a Book Editing project, and that book came up as one of my comps!! It looks really good and I was thinking about picking it up.

Let me know if you'd recommend (this goes for anyone who's read it thankssss)!!

message 682: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ezepeze11) | 72 comments Currently reading The Book of Life by Deborah Harkness. This is the last book of the trilogy and while I would recommend this series to anyone because it's really good, the best book has (so far) been the best.

Also continuing to struggle through Moby Dick, though I haven't picked it up in months and I'm stalled halfway through.

Daniele (danielecs) Hello,
reading a lot of books at the same time.
First I am reading A Canticle for Leibowitz for my bookclub "Vórtice Fantástico" here in Brazil.
I am also reading A Brief History of Time, by Stephen Hawking (this is going very slow, because of the content).
Finally, I will start again Golden Son by Pierce Brown, he is doing a re-read of the book here on goodreads. It's one part of the book a week. Its four weeks, and it began this monday 1/11, and the last week matches the realease of the third book, Mouning Star.
Also, Emma Watson started a bookclub here on goodreads called Our Shared Shelf. The books are about feminist themes.
;)

I read The Jungle. NOT a good time, let me tell you. Let me know what you think! Did you want to throw the book/yourself out the window before you were finished with it because, same.

It raises good points and it's an excellent thought-provoker. Just not something I would have chosen to read for fun, had I known then what I know now.

I have not read The Kite Runner, I will add it to my list - thank you for the recommendation!

message 694: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Milosek I'm reading The Jungle, which has been on my list for a while. It's been taking me quite a bit longer than most books do, but I think that's mostly just because I haven't had a lot of time to read it.

I'm also reading Pride and Prejudice for and am actually really enjoying it.

To read: Happily Ever After

I honestly don't have a strong opinion yet because I'm not far enough into it, but the beginning hasn't quite drawn me in, so I'll let you know what I think when I finish!
