Janice (jamasc) Political correctness has jumped from the sublime to the ridiculous!

Phoenix (phoenixapb) | 1619 comments Wow, that's just...just...STUPID!
Good grief, what's next? Wait, don't answer that, I don't really want to know.
All this PC, BS is getting so far out of hand it's not even amusing anymore, it's down right scary.

message 3: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Ha! And eggs aren't really spheres, anyway.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments They're giving those kids disinformation. That really sucks.

message 5: by Brittomart (new)

Brittomart *rolls eyes*

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments This is nuts, and confusing. Easter eggs are the pagan symbols of the season, along with rabbits. Who is offended by them? Christians? Atheists? Pagans? Vegans? :)

message 7: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Damn. They're eggs.

message 8: by Lila (new)

Lila | 146 comments ok..let's just get rid of everything and have no celebrations...no. this is ridiculous!

message 9: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I'll drink to that.

message 10: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) My grandson says they are ovals.

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Look like ellipses to me.
Nevermind, that's the geek speaking.

message 12: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Yeah well he's only 2.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Really? And he can already name shapes?

message 14: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Oh he's a wonderkind. He reads. Counts to 20.

message 15: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Is he going to Disneyworld with you?

message 16: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Yes! He's already been there once. Imagine that, twice before you turn three.

message 17: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments That's great. He's a lucky little fellow.

message 18: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) Will he go on an Easter Egg hunt, or a Spring Sphere hunt?

Will they change the name of Easter Island to Spring Island?

Is common sense dead?

message 19: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I think it's important not to over-react to things like this. After a while we start to sound like Glenn Beck.

I throw in my lot with Larry on this.

No idea, but the righty blogosphere is aflame with the phrase. "Libtards start Easter War" etc.

message 22: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I have never heard the phase "abstract behavior rules" in my life, but the phrase sounds like one a school administrator might use to sound purposeful.

While I understand the whole "don't over-react to this" assertion, I also hope school districts learn not to over-react to Easter eggs in the same process.

Jammies Larry wrote: "I think it's important not to over-react to things like this. After a while we start to sound like Glenn Beck."

Larry, you know I admire you, but really? We're not allowed to point and laugh at stupid ideas if they're not right-wing stupid? Sorry, but 'Spring Spheres' is dumb, no matter which side of the political agenda it's on. And for the record, I've done my share of pointing and laughing at Glenn Beck and his ilk.

message 24: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) Did I give the impression that I was over-reacting to this issue? I was simply trying to redirect the conversation back to the topic.

I think RA hit the nail on the head when he said, "While I understand the whole "don't over-react to this" assertion, I also hope school districts learn not to over-react to Easter eggs in the same process."

Hee. I love Jammers. And thanks, Janicers...

Lyzzibug ~Still Breathing~ (lyzzibug) | 708 comments Do the eggs even have anything to do with Jesus aspect of Easter? I thought it was just to do with the bunny part of Easter.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Koeeoaddi wrote: "The pastel hued ovo community is a vibrant and venerated one, but they are [understandably] sensitive on this issue. Show a little compassion, Jax..."

Hee! I'm very sorry, you're right, Ko. I'm being callous to their sensibilities. And yet, I feel completely unrepentant.

Lyzzibug, I think you're right. Eggs have nothing to do with Jesus. He never said, "This is my egg, boiled for you. Eat ye all of it."
That I know of, anyways... :)

message 28: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) Lyzzibug ~Dweeb Here~ wrote: "Do the eggs even have anything to do with Jesus aspect of Easter? I thought it was just to do with the bunny part of Easter."

Some sources say that the egg is part of the pagan religion as a symbol of rebirth in the spring. The Christians view the egg as a symbol of the resurrection of Jesus.

My whole point with this thread is more the ludacris monster that has been created by the whole political correctness movement. The original intent was to lessen social offense in terminology.

For example, it is no longer politically correct to call a person with Hansen's disease a leper because of the negative connotations associated with the label.

But who is offended by the name, "Easter" or even "Christmas"? Is there a negative connotation associated with these names? It seems that more offense has been created by changing the names to something deemed neutral.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I don't know, Janice, but I love the idea of wishing everyone Happy Spring Sphere Day. :)

message 30: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Easter was always my favorite holiday. I love the Easter Egg hunt with all my heart. I am pretty sure I will still hide some eggs for my 19 year old this year. Quick, someone loan me a cute grandchild for Easter! Larry? Send that little smart one. I'll spoil him like the dickens.

Janice (jamasc) Jackie "the Librarian" wrote: "I don't know, Janice, but I love the idea of wishing everyone Happy Spring Sphere Day. :)"

"Spring Sphere" is a tongue twister. LOL!

message 32: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) For the record, I never said anyone was not allowed to do anything. Nor did I say that anyone was over-reacting. I merely stated that, in my humble opinion, it was important not to over-react. Everyone is free to do whatever they will with that opinion statement.

Sometimes pushing back against or being outraged by things like this just gives them more attention and strength. But ... whatever.

So there. :)

Lyzzibug ~Still Breathing~ (lyzzibug) | 708 comments What will they correct next I wonder? They will probably start taking words out of the dictionary.

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Lyzzibug ~Dweeb Here~ wrote: "What will they correct next I wonder? They will probably start taking words out of the dictionary."

One of my college roommates used to tell people that the word "gullible" had been taken out of the dictionary because it was deemed offensive. He even got a few people to look it up to make sure. A little mean maybe, but seemed funny at the time.

message 35: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Yes, but I hear it that way too.

message 36: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Yes, that was the idea. Sometimes it didn't quite work--the humor may have been too convoluted, I think.

message 37: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I'm all about convoluted humor. That and dirty jokes.

I fell for something like that. I had an ex, who looked up at the ceiling then said, "Who wrote gullible on the ceiling?" I looked.

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Cats have a weird sense of humor. Actually, I'm starting wonder if my college roommate Michael was secretly a cat.

message 40: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) My cats have no sense of humor at all. Especially when I'm trying to round them up for a trip to the vet.

Lyzzibug ~Still Breathing~ (lyzzibug) | 708 comments I love how cats always look at you like they are better than you and your the pet. ;)

Yep, I still agree with Larry. "Spring spheres" is stupid, but it's not worthy enough of my time and attention for me to get all aghast over it and contribute to what will be hours upon hours of right wing talking points on talk radio and the blogosphere.
