Wilhelmina Jenkins | 229 comments The NYT profiled Beverly Cleary for her 95th birthday. I love her books. I read all of the "Ramona" books with my daughter when she was the age of Ramona in the books. A happy memory.

Patricia Puddle (trishapuddle) I'll have to check that out. I love Beverly Cleary. I can't believe she's 95. Ramona books are my favourite.

Abigail, I am also a late learner. I left school at fourteen and didn't know where commas went, or how to spell. I always wanted to write children's books, but didn't learn to write properly until I was fifty-three. I'm fifty eight now and have written three children's book - two published and one about to be released. And I learned all that on on-line critique groups. (One American and one in Iceland.) I also studied hundreds of children's books, including Beverley Cleary's as other writers told me by stories were similar to hers. (I write about my naughty anticts as a child and turn them into fiction) I had never read Beverly Cleary before. She's fantastic and so funny.

You're never too old to learn.
