Lauren Smith Just a catch-all thread for any series you're loving/hating/curious about right now.

message 2: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Watching the North American version of Being Human. I care about the 3 main characters, but the series is kind of random. The episodes are sort of stand-alone but with a loose overarching plot. Feels weird. And there's one character I hate so much that she might actually spoil the show for me - Rebecca. Both irritating and pathetic. Wish she would get staked.

On the other hand Sam Witwer who plays Aiden is my new Damon. Yum... Gamers and Star Wars fans will know him as Starkiller/Galen Marek.
I'm also very tired of seeing Damon do crazy eyes on Vampire Diaries. I know his eyes are very pretty but showing them off by opening his eyes wide on every second syllable is extremely irritating.

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments I just watched the last episode of Waking The Dead. I can't believe it's finished! It is one of my favourite shows of all time.

Also watching:
The Good Wife - Julianna Margulies is just brilliant in this.
The Chigaco Code
The Mentalist - starting to lose interest
Bones - I'm starting on Season 3 now
Nikita - Out of boredom
Flikken - A Belgian cop series
Bloedverwanten - Dutch series
Vampire Diaries

To watch soon:
Mildred Pierce
South Riding
Camelot

message 4: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Wow, you have quite a lot going on! Of those I've only seen the first season of The Mentalist. Entertaining enough for when I'm making jewellery or something, but I wouldn't make an effort to watch more. The best part of the show for me was guessing who the killer was. Main character is too smug - it's fine at first but gets irritating.

message 5: by Claudia (new)

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments Mostly I watch with my friends - it's the only time I get to see some of them! I find The Mentalist hard to stand at times, but everyone else likes it.

Watching these atm:

Gossip Girl
Dexter
Pokemon
Roswell
Sparticus

message 7: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith My sister gave me Spartacus. She says it goes overboard on the sex, gore and nudity though. We both loved Rome, and didn't find the sex and violence there to be gratuitous or overwhelming, so I imagine Spartacus must be really hectic.

message 8: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Sparticus is brilliant! Mark and I love it!

message 9: by Bigal-sa (new)

Bigal-sa | 16 comments I'm a big fan of Midsomer Murders, but it looks as though it's been canned as someone decided it's racist. In the same vein, I also like Lewis (follow up to the great Morse) and am waiting impatiently for series 5 to arrive (I've already ordered it, due for release at the end of this month).

message 10: by Bigal-sa (new)

Bigal-sa | 16 comments I've just finished watching the BBC series, State of play , which was really excellent (6x1hr episodes on 2 DVDs). It's in a totally different league to the US movie remake.

The series is worth every penny of the £4 it costs.

I'm watching Smallville atm. Started at season 1 :)

message 12: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I watched The Walking Dead over the weekend. I had the first graphic novel, which I thought was very good, but the series is kind of B-grade.

message 13: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
I enjoyed the series :)

message 14: by Claudine (new)

Claudine | 163 comments Lauren we watched the first few episodes on DVD the other day and I must agree, it is kind of B-grade. Just waiting for our turn on the last few episodes at the DVD rental place. May as well finish it up.

message 15: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Yeah, it's not too bad, a decent way of passing the time, but it's not something I'd watch again. It just doesn't have enough drive.

message 29: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Wow, you guys watch a lot of series!

I just watched the first season of Sherlock (BBC). Benedict Cumberbatch is lovely...

Also watching Mad Men again. I started watching the first season a while ago then lost steam, so I'm watching them again from the start.

message 33: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Ooh, I saw a poster for American Horror Story the other day and I really want to watch it now.

message 34: by Riana (new)

Riana | 397 comments I really recommend it for paranormal and horror lovers, I read an article that there will be no "ghosts" in season 2, so far it is a lot of guessing of "what exactly is this and is that really what you think it is" kind of thing, so it is a good guessing game. But it won't give you the scare of your life, it is more creepy and twisted and it is quite a fun roller coaster ride of twist and turns!

I'm watching:

Once Upon a Time

Waiting to get new seasons of:

Eureka
Big Bang Theory
Merlin
Grimm

That's the current stuff. Always have LOADS on my to watch list.

message 36: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I just watched the first season of the modern Doctor Who. Pretty kooky, but not bad. I don't really like Rose or Mickey, but the Doctor's kind of adorable, and I quite excited that he's now turned into David Tennant. I was hoping Rose would be replaced, but I see I'll have to wait another season for that. And Jack is one of my favourite characters. I should check out Torchwood.

I think season 2 might change your mind, well I hope so :)

message 41: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Season two certainly is better, although I only have 3 episodes and the Christmas special :(
But oh, I do love David Tennant :)

message 42: by Claudia (new)

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments I started watching yesterday and really enjoyed it. I don't like Rose very much either. The sad thing though, I realized I've only got ep 1 and then from ep 6 onwards. Bah!

message 43: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith That's going to be a problem. At first I thought that each episode was self-contained, but as I went on, the earlier episodes started to play a role in the later ones, and that continues in season two.

message 44: by Claudia (new)

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments I've found somewhere to stream it, so it'll be OK. :)

My latest series is Beauty and the Beast!

Ah I also started that, I need to catch up I'm only at the beginning still!

message 48: by PointyEars42 (new)

PointyEars42 Just watched the (newer,re-imagined) Battlestar Galactica series over the last week. Boggles the mind that the US tv machine could produce something of this calibre, considering the mediocre shite they churn out these days. I'm currently struggling through the prequel series (Caprica), which is pretty bad.

Also watching the older episodes of QI that I missed (only discovered it 2 seasons ago).

On the Dr Who front, Donna is my favourite companion although the Ponds are a close second. "The Doctor's Wife" (S06E04)is one of the best episodes of anything I've ever watched, aside from Sherlock, and it saddens me that it didn't happen during 10's tenure.

message 49: by Lu (new)

QI is awesome!!

Donna is funny :)

My fav Dr Who episode is the Van Gogh one!

I can watch it over and over and cry every single time! So beautiful :)

Oh my word, Lu - this episode destroyed me. The quality of the acting and storytelling (and lighting and dialogue and and and) in this show routinely outdoes anything that wins an Oscar.
