Amber (acdink) | 3 comments I'm looking for books about Jack the Ripper or other murder mysteries set in the Victorian period. I've recently read What Alice Knew and I've read Alan Moore's graphic novel, From Hell. Any ideas?

This was a very interesting take on the Ripper case, with Sherlock Holmes on the case.

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) There's the Gaslight Mysteries series by Victoria Thompson, the first is Murder on Astor Place, it's not about Jack the Ripper, but they take place at the end of the 1800's, beginning of 1900's.

JC (jmnc) | 499 comments I just read an excellent non-fiction book that reads like a novel: The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America. A serial killer is loose during the Chicago world's fair of 1890-something and he is inspired by Jack the Ripper, but wants to be "better". Scary stuff, and true!

Shay | 86 comments I think it was out of print for a while, but they re-released Time After Time by Karl Alexander. Can't vouch for the book, but loved the movie.

Moon | -56 comments The Night of the Ripper by Robert Bloch is my favorite so far. Bloch wrote a lot about Jack the Ripper I've noticed.

Shay | 86 comments What do you call it when you un-recommend a book? In other words, don't read or avoid. I would say the worst Ripper book I've read is Portrait of a Killer: Jack The Ripper - Case Closed by Patricia Cornwell. It would be charitable to call it awful.

I actually just picked this up the other day! I enjoyed the book so I'll have to rent the movie.

Although, i'm sad that hollywood are about to ruin it.........its been announced that it's going to be made into a movie and Leonardo diCaprio to play H.H. Holmes????????????
