Cassie (casswish) I'm pregnant! I just had to announce it. It's my first, and we're so very happy! Tips and advice are always welcome :)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Congratulations!

Sleep now. You will never sleep the same again. Mine is 13 and I still sleep with an ear listening.

And do yourself a favor-when your baby is sleeping-don't insist on the house beign a silent tomb. Obviously you don't want to blast the stereo. But we made sure we made normal everyday noises while my daughter slept. Then naptime or the evening wasn't ruined if the doorbell or the phone rang. We could vacuum or watch an action movie without waking her up. We had friends that started off with the no noise while baby was sleeping and then you become a slave to it.

JC (jmnc) | 311 comments I have 2 boys - 5yr and 20mo. The best advice given to me was: don't worry about the house being clean, dinner being perfect, etc. Enjoy your baby, snuggle, sing, read, just soak it up!! I recommend Secrets of the Baby Whisperer: How to Calm, Connect, and Communicate with Your Baby. There are two for babies, and I read and reread them both! The toddler one was ok. Also, What to Expect the First Year is a good go-to guide for development, medical stuff, etc. Good luck!

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Congratulations Cassie! Fran speaks the truth. My boys are 16 and 18 now. My advice is to take lots of pictures and actually get them printed. Hard drives fail.

Grats! Another good handy book to have around is Baby 411 Clear Answers & Smart Advice For Your Baby's First Year by Denise Fields just to give you some basic info on stages, etc. The Baby whisperer book is also a good read. :)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) Congratulations Cassie
When is the little one due ?

message 16: by Tania (new)

Tania | 644 comments Congrats Cassie! My advice - don't forget your relationship with your partner. It's so easy to get caught up in baby fever. Set a date night and keep it - even if its just a picnic in the backyard or lounge room while the baby is sleeping.

message 17: by Tania (new)

Tania | 644 comments Oh - and name the adult going for the job interview. Don't name the baby.

Vi | 2794 comments Congrats Cassie!

message 19: by KimKirt (new)

KimKirt | 1638 comments Congrats! I agree with not keeping the house silent, my son (now 9) can sleep thru a bomb. He actually slept through a hurricane once. Jeez. Also, don't wake them at night to feed (unless it is a medical necessity). They told me at the hospital to wake him every so and so hours during the night and when we left my mom said "If that baby is sleeping at night, do NOT wake him." I never did.

Also, take lots of pictures that first year, boy they grow fast and it seems like that baby time is gone in a blink of an eye!
