Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) Since it is time for bed, I am enjoying a dose of Lee Wiley, one of the great vocalists from the 1930/40s. So soothing.

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) A bit of the wonderful voice of Dinah Washington tonight. I have a CD set called The Queen Sings and this is one of the tracks. She had such a great voice and could sing everything from blues to rock.

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) I am listening to a song that nobody ever heard of.....well, maybe some of you. It was popular way back in the 1960s and is done by the brother and sister act of Nino Tempo and April Stevens. It is short and sweet but I love it. I think the record must have belonged to my brother but I grabbed it and still have it.

Deep Purple by Nino Tempo and April Stevens

Skeetor I think a lot people remember that one from Donny and Marie Osmond's version, also.
Funny, another brother and sister act. :)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) The self-destructive Amy Winehouse was a fantastic talent in my opinion. I wonder what her career would have been if she had lived. This is from her album Back to Black....listening to it now.

They were fantastic - what a unique sound.

message 132: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) Disco got them started and they just kept going. Great sound........but it is sad that both Maurice and Robin have passed. They still had music to make.

They died young and the one still around was the oldest!!!

message 134: by Francie (new)

Francie Grice What amazes me is their ability to compose. One of their first hits, The New York Mining Disaster of 1941, was written in about 15 minutes on a dark staircase. They have over 900 songs to their credit, whether recorded by them or other artists.

It is terrific getting all of these recommendations based upon what our group is listening to. Try to add a youtube link to the song if it is available - always great listening.

message 143: by Jill (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) Since they just got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I am listening to a mix of songs by The 5 Royales. Many are unfamiliar with this former gospel group who were influential in early R&B. Here is one of their hits which also became a hit for The Shirelles in the early 1960s and again for The Mamas and the Papas in the 1970s.
