Danine (dulcemea) What book would you create a soundtrack for? What songs would you include on the soundtrack? Is there a particular song that goes with a particular scene?

That's three questions to make up for last week. Once again I apologize. 20 lashings have been administered. Have a good weekend!

Joanie | 335 comments This is really funny-I had this as a final exam assignment for a film and lit class in college. I made a mix tape to go along with Sula by Toni Morrison. I know I put "Love's Recovery" by the Indigo Girls, "Cold" by Annie Lennox, "Running to Stand Still" by U2, and maybe Edie Brickell's version of "A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall" and there was another song Indigo Girls song-,maybe that "Nomads, Indians, and Saints" one (if that's not the name that's in it somewhere) I know there were more, can't remember what else.

I can't really remember what went where-I think "Cold" went with when Nell? (it's been 14 years-can't remember) finds out Sula slept with her husband, the U2 song was for the scene with the guys shooting heroin (or for his mother finding the bent spoon and glass of bloody water) and Edie Brickell was for the guy returning from war. I would probably pick some different songs if I were to do it now but I'd need to read the book again to refresh.

I want to think about this in terms of books I've read more recently. Good question!!!

Tana Harrison I have made an entire soundtrack for the Twilight series with Queen songs. I changed some lyrics just to make fun of the story but now I like it so much I think I may create a musical.

Tracy | 36 comments This one is easy. I'd create a soundtrack for the trashiest and most memorable of my (pre-) teen reads: VC Andrews's "My Sweet Audrina."

The publication of Andrews's only standalone book coincided with the release Cyndi Lauper's hit "All through the night," and to this day, when that song comes on the radio, I think of Audrina Adare.

In addition to Cyndi's trademark otherworldly voice, which inhabits a high register in the song's chorus, some of the lyrics have an ironic resonance in light of the novel: "we have no past, we will not reach back, keep with me forward all through the night." Take that, Arden!

Joanie | 335 comments Tracy I love that you picked a soundtrack to My Sweet Audrina! We just re-read that book recently, it's so twisted!
