message 6: by Bandit (last edited Apr 22, 2011 07:46AM) (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments Cenobites are the creatures/demons from Hellraiser movies or Cliver Barker's Hellbound Heart

message 7: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 8320 comments Cenobites are creatures from "Hellraiser", another great movie.

message 8: by Bunny (new)

Bunny (bunnycates) | 93 comments haha, thinking about Hellraiser, you know who else scares the sh** out of me... the Tall Man from Phantasm! omg, he freaks me out.

message 9: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments also, Candyman...very scary
so basically Clive Barker's imagination scares me lol

message 10: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments Pinhead is so scary...he says things like "We will tear your soul apart"

message 11: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 8320 comments Another great one! I used to look around my room waiting to see those flying orbs.

MJ (zombette) | 545 comments The Brood have always peeved me out.

Bunny (bunnycates) | 93 comments Gatorman wrote: "Another great one! I used to look around my room waiting to see those flying orbs."

my dad had a set of those umm.. what are they called, Chinese Balls? they are just 2 metal balls that you work around in your hands, its supposed to remove stress. His were real expensive so he kept their little display box open on the mantel. I used to just stare at those damned things at night. And you know how you "see things" in the dark. I swear they would MOVE. lol!!! 8 yr old me would run and DIVE under the covers on my bed!

message 14: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 8320 comments I could see how that would freak you out. I would have been waiting for those blades to pop out and the balls to break out of the case!

O_o oh god and the dolls...those friggin dolls that you stand in the corner that look just like those bastards!!!

message 17: by Paul (new)

Paul Hollis | 303 comments Some of the dolls you see are some of the creepiest things ever

message 18: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments Absolutely agree, puppets and ventriloquist dummies too, Dead Silence anyone...

message 19: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 8320 comments I remember the dummy from the movie Magic. That was pretty creepy.

message 20: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Only Anthony Hopkins could pull off stately with his hand in a puppet's back.

message 21: by Scott (new)

Scott The Brood looked too fake to be scary.

I remember the TV commercial for Magic freaking me out as a kid. Finally watched the movie about a year ago--really great!

message 22: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Back in the early '80s when I first saw The Brood on HBO, it was kinda scary. Not saying it compares to Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but the kids are creepy as all get out. Most horror movies I rewatch after decades look fake and not so scary.

message 23: by Paul (new)

Paul Hollis | 303 comments Gatorman wrote: "I remember the dummy from the movie Magic. That was pretty creepy."

Yeah, Magic was creepy

message 24: by Scott (new)

Scott Puppet Master, definitely.

message 26: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 8320 comments The Brood is a great movie. David Cronenberg really knew how to do creepy in the early days.

How many mouths do those suckers have?

message 28: by Sammy (new)

Sammy Kammy (sammykammy) | 0 comments mmm this may be cheating, but if you count videos on the internet as "onscreen", i would have to say Slenderman, from Marble Hornets. (I realize he was created before marble hornets, but MH was his 'film debut' i guess you could say.)
Slenderman gets back to basics. You don't know what he is. you don't know where he came from. You don't know how to stop him. He leaves a trail of death and madness behind him, and you never know who, when, or where he'll strike. He could be lurking in the shadows behind you as we speak...

I love you forever for this comment. =)

message 30: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3233 comments I think that the thing in John Carpenter's The Thing is the most freaky, imo.

Though, I'd agree that the Cenobites are pretty nasty as well.

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments Lori wrote: "Bandit wrote: "Cenobites are freaking terrifying"

oh, thanks, Lori :)

I heard they might be re-making Hellraiser, I hope they don't mess up the Cenobites, those things are iconic horror to me

message 32: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3233 comments I can't agree with you more, Bandit. But you know that they probably will... :(

message 33: by Amanda (new)

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) From what I hear it isn't even sanctioned by Barker at all :( He considers Hellraiser and Candyman played out.

message 34: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments I haven't seen either of those in a while, but I think they'd still hold up. I don't know why things need to get constantly re-made, newer isn't always better. Thing is I'd definitely watch them, though, just to see how it was executed.

I swear to god it's because Hollywood is running out of "money making" ideas and are relying on old successes to help keep them rich.

Some of them are good, mind you. But most remakes are crap, imo!

message 36: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments oh, I agree with you, most remakes are crap
I don't know how hollywood can't find any original ideas for horror movies, why not adapt some of the amazing horror books that are out there...and I mean adapt well, not butcher...like Ketchum books, for example, I think are pretty good adaptations

message 37: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3233 comments Bandit, have you seen the movie adaptations of Ketchum's The Lost or The Girl next door?

Starry, I would say that ghost/haunted houses and serial killers are what's "in" for horror move monsters right now.

I wish they'd bring back the old mosters back, though. Me needs me some tentacles and large, finger-sized teeth, damn it! LOL

message 38: by Scott (new)

Scott There probably isn't much that can be done with Candyman beyond the original story, but I think there is a whole universe of Hellraiser stories that could be told. There have been a number of original comic book stories based on it that have been quite good.

Even Barker's Hellraiser wasn't particularly faithful to his novella, so if somebody went back and adapted that, it wouldn't really be a remake. They wouldn't even have to call it Hellraiser, since that wasn't the title of the story.

message 39: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3233 comments True, but the only really great monster film that came out recently, imo, is The Mist. The wolfman was okay, but not scary. Niether was Underworld.

message 40: by Scott (new)

Scott What about Cloverfield or The Host?

message 41: by Kasia (new)

Kasia (kasia_s) | 4517 comments Mod
A good werewolf movie like Dog Soldiers... still gives me the creeps and I love werewolves, there's pretty much no talking them down, not like the romantic vampire that maybe will be confused and forget to eat you, these are machines with fur, love it!

message 42: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3233 comments Haven't seen the Host. Forgot all about Cloverfield, though. I love that one.

Okay, so maybe I'm wrong. LOL

I've seen Dog Soldiers. Also an excellent film!
