Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Please forgive me. I've had a lot going on and it totally slipped my mind that it's my turn to lead the discussion and put up the poll.

Any ideas? Themes? Just throw some titles out?

Suggestions:
The Priest's Graveyard
John Dies at the End

Paul suggested an '80s theme. I like that idea.

'80s books:
Elementals
Floating Dragon
Neverland
The Keep
Swan Song

Sue (sussudio1970) (ilovemaine2020) | 3 comments The Priest's Graveyard by Ted Dekker? Happy Easter to you Tressa!

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Happy Easter, Sue! Happy Easter to all my GR non-atheist HA friends. God forbid I offend anyone, lol.

Paul Hollis | 303 comments LOL....Happy easter to you too

message 6: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Happy Easter, Paul. Don't eat too many deviled eggs or hot cross buns.

message 7: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments This sure looks good: Willy.

Paul Hollis | 303 comments how about an 80's theme?

message 10: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3233 comments I'm agnostic, but I don't care. Happy Easter to you, too. Tressa. And Happy Easter to everyone else too! :)

message 11: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Jason, if you're agnostic then I can kinda wish you a Happy Easter and only maybe will you get offended.

My son upon seeing his Easter basket this morning: "Oh, boy. Peeps! I like my Peeps with whipped cream." Will have to force myself to stay away from his Reese's eggs.

Paul, an '80s theme sounds fun. Imagine the shiny, over-the-top book covers we'd get to experience.

OK. Start posting suggestions for books written in that bygone era of stone washed denim and big hair.

message 12: by Paul (new)

Paul Hollis | 303 comments well I'm gonna go for The Elementals

message 13: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Good choice. Haven't read that one in ages. I own it, but I wonder if it would be hard to find for others?

message 14: by Paul (new)

Paul Hollis | 303 comments umm, I don't know, I think you can get it for a couple of bucks but maybe you're right maybe suggest else...

message 15: by Paul (new)

Paul Hollis | 303 comments ok how about Floating Dragon?

message 16: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Is that the one about magic? Ugh. But I'll add it.

Paul Hollis | 303 comments Tressa wrote: "Is that the one about magic? Ugh. But I'll add it."

I don't remember it at all but I know I read it way back then

message 18: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Most everyone loves that book, but for some reason I've always been turned off by books/movies about magic. Don't know why.

message 19: by Paul (new)

Paul Hollis | 303 comments I'm not really big on magic(I keep waiting for HarryPotter to killed).. and it's weird that I don't remember anything about the book

message 20: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I like Lord of the Rings and HP magic, but not the kind where a guy does sad tricks at the Holiday Inn.

message 21: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 8320 comments Happy Easter to all who celebrate! Hope the group read is something available in e-format. Not much time to get to the bookstore lately.

Ha ha. You're funny.

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments Happy Easter to everyone who celebrates

This year my SO decided we should really celebrate, so we're coloring eggs and I even got my first ever Easter basket with non-chocolate goodies, it's really awesome :)

message 25: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3233 comments Happy Easter to you, too, Bandit!

message 26: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Coloring eggs is fun at any age. Then you can chop them up into egg salad or make weirdly colored deviled eggs.

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) Tressa wrote: "Coloring eggs is fun at any age. Then you can chop them up into egg salad or make weirdly colored deviled eggs."

Lol yeah that's what we do every year too :)

message 28: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments I dressed as a deviled egg for Halloween a while back, it was a huge success, particularly with kids
I have no idea how to make deviled eggs, though...it's gonna have to be egg salad

message 29: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Hey, I was gonna dress as a deviled egg one year too, but didn't. Had my pitchfork and horns all ready to go.

Deviled eggs: Peel and cut the eggs in half. Scoop out the yellows into a bowl. Mix in some mayo, mustard, sweet relish, celery seeds and powder, salt & pepper. Mix until the yolks are smooth. Spoon back into the halves. Sprinkle with paprika. Very good chilled with a sandwich.

message 30: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 8320 comments I LOVE devilled eggs. Nectar from the gods.

message 31: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments oh, that seems pretty easy even for culinary challenged such as myself :)
thanks, Tressa

message 32: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Deviled eggs are delish. You do have a deviled egg dish, don't you? :-)

message 33: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments is that a trick question? is there such a thing as a deviled egg dish?
braaaainss

message 35: by Bandit (last edited Apr 25, 2011 09:05AM) (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments oh, that's quite nice, I've never seen that before somehow
will have to check out Target's selection of them on my next trip

message 36: by Jason (new)

Jason | 176 comments How about Neverland by Douglas Clegg?

message 37: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments good suggestion, Jason...I've read it SO long ago, I'd welcome an excuse to re-visit it

message 38: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 8320 comments I just saw some reviews for Neverland which indicated that it's not his best work and more of a YA novel, directed primarily at teens. Not sure about that.

message 39: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I can remove it from the list. What say everyone?

message 40: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments I'm really surprised it got bad reviews, I remember really liking it and I never thought it was YA-ish, but I've already read it, so whatever eveyone decides...
I just hope no one misses out on Neverland because of the negative reviews

message 41: by Amanda (new)

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) I own it but haven't read it yet. I really haven't disliked anything by Clegg beyond his Harrow house books.

message 42: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments same here, Amanda, Clegg seldom dissapoints
in his Children's Hour he actually gives a shout out to Neverland via one of the characters...talk about shameless self-promotion :)

message 43: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 8320 comments Hey, put it on the list, it's always worth considering. I liked the two Clegg books I've read. Just not interested in reading a YA novel, if the reviews are to be believed.

message 44: by Bandit (last edited Apr 25, 2011 01:15PM) (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments look, Gator, some good reviews
http://www.amazon.com/Neverland-Dougl...
IMO it's not a YA novel, Clegg doesn't write YA, a lot of his stories have kids as important characters, but the tone, the plot and the writing is all grown up

message 45: by Amanda (new)

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) *nods an affirmative to Bandit's statement* Unfortunately some people thing kid characters means YA these days and after that they tune out before they even read the book. I saw a review like that for It on Epinions once.

message 46: by Gatorman (last edited Apr 25, 2011 01:35PM) (new)

Gatorman | 8320 comments The reviews I saw indicated this was a very early novel and that Clegg's style has changed dramatically since then, which may have accounted for the difference in tone from Neverland to his later efforts of which I have partaken.

message 47: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments which books of his have you read, Gator?

message 48: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments OK. I'll leave it on the list.

message 49: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 8320 comments I read The Hour Before Dark and The Attraction. Thought both were quite good.

message 50: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments Honestly, and I may not be the most perceptive reader out there, but I haven't noticed a significant change in Clegg's writing and I've read most of his horror books starting with his late 80s books and straight on through.
What do you think, Amanda?
