Elizabeth A (kisiwa) | 193 comments Thanks for a fun evening talking about one of my fave subjects - books! Let's do it again soon. Happy 4th.

Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments I was so glad to see everyone, and I will post the books discussed list tomorrow morning!

Marly | 152 comments I can't wait to hear about your get together.
Happy 4th of July to you all!

That was super fun. Thanks for the warm welcome and great recommendations!

message 256: by Callie (new)

Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments So I mentioned that I was reading (listening to) Alice I Have Been, and that it was making me a little uncomfortable with the relationship between Alice and Lewis Carroll (Charles Dodgson). Today I read brainpickings.org, and they have a post about this relationship, including the pictures that were mentioned in the book.

Here it is, in case anyone is curious: http://www.brainpickings.org/index.ph...

Jennifer (jentwist) | 109 comments It was great to get together this week - thanks for a fun night out! Callie, let us know when you need us to start working on your campaign :-)

I hope we can get together again when I'm home in August.

Interested to hear what you all had to say about Tell the Wolves I'm Home... I started it and lived what I read, but haven't had a chance to get back to it.

message 260: by Elizabeth (last edited Jul 07, 2012 07:16PM) (new)

Elizabeth A (kisiwa) | 193 comments Thanks for the list Callie. Yes, you got the right Henry VIII book.

Michael, I was the one who loved and recommended Tell the Wolves I'm Home - read it in one sitting, loved it.

Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments Jennifer emailed me the picture from the 3rd, I am going to see if I can get it to post...

ETA: OK, that didn't work. I added it to my profile pictures, here's the link:

How do you do this, Callie? I've taken a couple pictures related to reading that I've wanted to share. Is it through your profile?

(shortly after): Found it! Under my profile, under my picture, it says "more photos", then on the right I can click on "add more photos". Is this how? I'll try it after my vacation!

Yes, if you go to your profile, under your profile picture is a link called "more photos". If you click that, there is a link called "add more photos".

Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments Thanks to Kats, I found out that Chris Cleave will be @ Porter Square Books tomorrow @ 3:30. I will definitely be there, let me know if you want to meet up!

Ha, you found out from someone in Switzerland that someone will be in Cambridge. Aye.

There is a fortune to be made from someone solving this problem. I just wish I had the time, skills and resources.

If I were on facebook or twitter, I would be much more in the know. Blame me and the fact that I live in a virtual internet cave, apart from goodreads.

OK, what do we have to do for Literary Trivia on 8/6? The Boston Phoenix just posted on Facebook that they are taking this seriously. That got my competitive juices flowing.

Do we have a team for sure? Count me in.

OMG, they're even doing t-shirts.

I dug it out of a pile at Manchester-by-the-Book last year for $7.00!

Oh, I wish I could be there to help!

message 271: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm definitely coming to cheer you all on, but my memory is such that I don't think I'd be the strongest link on a team. Keep me posted on the event though! I want to enjoy it with other BOTNers.

message 272: by Marly (new)

Marly | 152 comments Linda you would be excellent at it and Jamie that's an excellent idea. My memory stinks too but it would be great to watch and cheer the others on. I'll try to make it. Go team BOTNS!

I know, I know...I'll be the phone-a-friend!

message 275: by Callie (new)

Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments I am in if there is still room on the team! We still need a name- I'm good with Team BotNS, or we could do Booktopians... Or we could do something crazy like Page Rage. Thoughts?

message 276: by Ann (new)

Ann (akingman) | 2097 comments Mod
I'm hoping someone will step up and organize us all. Any volunteers? (Seeing that I am too lazy to even go back into this thread and see who brought up the idea, I am obviously not the person to take a leadership role on this endeavor).

message 277: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jentwist) | 109 comments Hi Guys - I might be back in the US in time for trivia night so I will definitely attend if possible to cheer you on. I noticed that Ann said you needed some organizing and since I'm all about organizing (even from across the pond) I went to the BBF web site to see what you needed to do. Then I realized that Callie actually had it outlined in an earlier post but here it is again:

A team is 4 people so I think you have one complete team based on this string (Callie, Vanessa, Vanessa's friend from Wales and Ann...hopefully I didn't miss anyone?). You just need to come up with a name for the team and then when you buy tickets at this site (http://www.bostonbookfest.org/bookfes...) there is a place on the payment page to enter your team name. Tickets are $12 on line and $15 at the door.

PS I'm in Eton UK this week and next visiting my husbands and then I'll be back in the US while I do the final steps for my work visa which will probably take 3-4 weeks. So if I miss the trivia night I'd love to do another bookish night before the end of the summer!

message 278: by [deleted user] (new)

Enjoy the UK, Jennifer! I hope to see you at the trivia night...or at another Crema chat.

message 279: by Ann (new)

Ann (akingman) | 2097 comments Mod
Thank you, Jennifer! I do hope that you are able to join us, but if not, PLEASE let's have a get together before you go back to the UK. Ihope you're having a great time. I do notice that you said you were "visiting my husbands' -- something you want to tell us? ;)

So, Callie, Vanessa, and Vanessa's friend from Wales: are we in?
Anyone want to be back-up, or form a 2nd team?

message 280: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jentwist) | 109 comments Oops! Well, I like to pretend that I'm married to Colin Firth so I was covering real and imaginary husbands in that statement.

message 281: by Callie (new)

Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments I am in, and very excited! I'll be doing the neverending book quiz as practice. :)

message 282: by Ann (new)

Ann (akingman) | 2097 comments Mod
Ooh, good idea on Never ending book quiz!

There is a prize for best team name. Thoughts?

message 283: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (talkbookstome) | 114 comments A couple ideas I came up with on my way to work this morn :)

Citizens of the Land of Booktopia
Trivia from the Nightstand
Austen Leads Bronte by Three Weddings and Two Scandals (Inspired by the team name we used a few months ago for regular trivial "Newt Leads Romney by Two Wives")
Call Us Ishmael
Truth-tellers of the Universally Acknowledged
Heros of Our Own Stories
Escapees from the Ministry of Love
Lady Chatterley's Association Against Fifty Shades of Grey
A Good Bibliophile is Hard to Find
Second Star on the Right
The Music Makers and the Dreamers of Dreams

message 284: by Callie (new)

Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments Booktopaliens/Booktopians, althought non-botns people (if they exist) might not get it.

Ann (akingman) | 2097 comments Mod
I like Call Us Ishmael! :)

message 286: by Callie (new)

Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments I'm good with it as well, we should sign up. :)

I just got the email announcing the keynote speakers for BBF- for the adults' side, Richard Ford, and for the kids' side, Lemony Snicket. I die.

message 287: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (talkbookstome) | 114 comments Agreed! My friend Dan and I are totally in for this! Just tell us where to go and what to pay. Do we all have to sign up at the same time?

message 288: by Callie (new)

Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments Vanessa wrote: "Agreed! My friend Dan and I are totally in for this! Just tell us where to go and what to pay. Do we all have to sign up at the same time?"

I just asked, they said that it doesn't matter if we buy the tickets as one group or individually, just that it will make things easiest if we all have the same group name in the applicable field. I'm going to go ahead and purchase mine.

message 289: by Callie (new)

Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments Purchased :) Now on to studying!

message 290: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth A (kisiwa) | 193 comments I love the group name ideas Vanessa. They would be great book titles. Or at least short stories. I'll await my arc... Not sure if I'll be in town - if yes, I will be there to cheer the team on.

message 291: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (talkbookstome) | 114 comments Awesome! I will get my tickets post haste!

Ps: Side Note to all those Boston BOTNSers - I am having a big summer picnic at the Larz Anderson Park in Brookline August 11th, with a real menu, blankets, board games and general outside fun. If any of you are interested and would like pretty snail mail invite - please email me a [email protected]

No obligation, just thought I would extend the summer fun invite to the BOTNS network! :)

message 292: by [deleted user] (new)

Picnic sounds great. I work until 5p on Saturdays though :-( Have fun!

OK, going to sign up now, team Call Us Ishmael.

Vanessa, thanks so much for the picnic invite. It sounds wonderful! I, sadly, will likely be killing myself at the Spartan Race in Amesbury, climbing over walls and under barbed wire as part of the race.

Vanessa (talkbookstome) | 114 comments Ann - that's awesome! Bookseller by day, Bad-ass Spartan by weekends! :)

Our tickets have been purchased! See you all at Tommy Doyle's in Kendall tonight around 6:15ish? Go team Call me Ishmael!
