You Know You're a Horror Fan When....

I went to see Piranha 3D because it got good reviews and I wanted to see Richard Dreyfus' cameo. I was also a big fan of Elizabeth Shue in the 80's and was interested to see her back on the big screen. I had to walk out. I got so grossed out by the relentless carnage it started to give me an anxiety attack.

Do you find the same thing happens when reading a particularly gruesome book?

Don't have the same problem with words on page. I seem to have a tolerance for reading what I can't watch on scream. And the funny thing is, I write stuff I would never be able to watch.

It is mostly gore and dismembered limbs, but since they were done in 3D they were awesome. But sometimes you need to forget about plot and characters and just watch a fun movie.

For the most part I'd have to disagree. The build up in reading horror and actually getting into the heads of the characters brings layers upon layers to my imagination. Movies stifle that since they only have so long to get the story out.

Sixth Sense was one of those few gems that really did it right. The build up was there and then you were hit in the gut with a twist. Love that feeling!

That's for sure!
I'm also a huge fan of The Shining. That movie scares me way more than the book. But my kids think it's just blah. Even the "Here's Johnny" scene didn't faze them.

I think we've had some deep discussions here about Nicholson being too known for playing crazy and therefore wasn't right for the role. I disagreed with this view.
Jason, Shelley Duvall can't act AT ALL and was bloody awful and awkward as Wendy. I cringed every time she had a scene. The worst was when she was in the office using that radio to contact help. My God, they probably took 100 takes and it still looked and sounded painful. Wish I could find a clip of it.
30 Second Bunnies in The Shining.

I'm not sure if Kubrick did it to get that version of Wendy, but I did see an interview with Duvall a long time ago, and she claimed he had her in tears constantly. He would retake even the smallest scene 50, 60 times - but he was famous for being an anal-retentive asshole anyway, and she is a terrible actress. I'm not sure why he didn't just replace her when he realised she couldn't give him what he wanted.

Maybe her best performance was as the one night stand in Annie Hall when she gave Alvy lockjaw from having to give oral for so long.
Alvy Singer: I think, I think there's too much burden placed on the orgasm, you know, to make up for empty areas in life.
Pam: Who said that?
Alvy Singer: It may have been Leopold and Loeb.

I agree, although I enjoy the Kubrick version simply for the creep factor and don't look at it as a faithful adaptation.

La la la la la la...I can't hear you!! ;)
I love, love, love the original "The Shining", warts and all. I rank it as my number one, best ever, top-of-the-line horror movie. (And, yeah, I understand that most people wouldn't agree with me on this.)
How about sci fi horror? Anyone like 'Alien'? This is probably my favorite #2 horror movie. And if anyone dares to diss Sigourney Weaver, well, I'm taking my DVDs and going home... (jk!!)

No! She even sucked at this. An example is her simpering, phony weeping on the stairs when she's hitting Jack with a bat. Another Awkward! moment from Shelley Duvall.

haha, I would think nothing says "unique taste in men" like calling Ray Winstone a hunk :)
Joss Whedon is a sci-fi genius plus he gives the world hunks like...Nathan Fillion

Haha. Didn't catch that one at first. Which do you prefer, the real one or the fake?
I love horror movies, too, but I'm kind of a wimp about certain things. I took my daughter and her friend to see 'Inception' and really liked it a lot.
