Tyler (alienlanes) I don't really know what to say I'm looking for other than books with a good tricky, manipulative lawyer such as The Postman Always Rings Twice.

Another inspiration, lawyers who are good at bending reality for their case. The speech by the Tony Shalhoub character in the movie "The Man Who Wasn't There" is mind-blowing to me. I'd love to know if there is anything out there like it.

This one also has some good lawyering The Confession by Domenic Stansberry

Thanks.

Pamela (plvannest) If it's a tricky lawyer you want, you can't do better than the one, the only, the original -- Perry Mason! One of my favorite is The Case of the One-Eyed Witness You don't have to read them in the order they were written and there are enough of them to keep you busy for a long time.

Besides being good mysteries with great (but fair) twists, they give you a really good overview of the time in which they were written. A thoroughly enjoyable light read!

Ashley FL For me, the classic is Presumed Innocent

We're not all manipulative. Most, not all. So cynical! LOL

Melissa Miller (melissafmiller) I second the recommendation for Michael Connelly's "The Lincoln Lawyer," and, if you like it, there are at least three more featuring the character, defense lawyer Mickey Haller.

Tyler (alienlanes) Thanks, I need to check these out. I guess one clarification of what I am not looking for, where the lawyer is basically just a detective figuring out a mystery. The lawyer doesn't have to be the main character of the book either.

I'm kind of fascinated how clients are forced to put all their faith and money to a person they don't know.
The are basically completely out of control in the situation and have to heavily rely on the lawyer and the courts to serve them well. How the lawyer achieves this by arguments typically or with a combination of some other tactics is interesting.
