Janice (jamasc) | 59940 comments How many books have you got on your wish list? What are some of the books on your wish list? When you go shopping, do you give priority to those items?

I have 28 on my wish list, some of which are
The Book of Kells
Pavilion of Women
The Shadow of the Wind
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
Voodoo Dreams: A Novel of Marie Laveau
The Sandalwood Tree: A Novel

I have more on my audible account. I think there is about 30 there.

Valerie | 95 comments I have 30 books on my wish list.... I had more, but I trimmed it down to make it reflect more of what I "REALLLY" want to own. I usually give the items in my wish list priority when I shop, but if I happen to be in the store & something really catches my attention, I will buy it over what's in my list.

Here are some of the things I have in my wish list:

Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly - I actually just ordered these online today

Persuasion An Annotated Edition by Jane Austen Passion (Fallen, #3) by Lauren Kate - Have on pre-order

I Am the Chosen King by Helen Hollick Hatteras Girl by Alice Wisler None But You (Frederick Wentworth, Captain, #1) by Susan Kaye Austenland by Shannon Hale

the wishlist on my kindle is over 50 books long (my goodreads wishlist/to-read shelves are just part of it!)

message 4: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) I recently went on a huge spree and got probably 80 books for my Nook and in regular paperback but I still have some I've wanted for awhile, probably

Wesley the Owl The Remarkable Love Story of an Owl and His Girl by Stacey O'Brien is the one I want the most, as weird as that is haha! I'm a sucker for animal books and this one has been on my list forevvverrrr

message 5: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59940 comments I love owls. I may have to add that one to my wish list along with The Owl Keeper

message 6: by Karendenice (new)

Karendenice My wishlist isn't very big. I'm kinda hesitant to add much to it. I don't know why. But I do have a shelf of tbr soon books that is growing by the minute. And sometimes I add books to my wishlist if I've read them but want to own them.

message 7: by Jenny, honorary mod - inactive (new)

Jenny (notestothemoon) | 846 comments My wishlist is huuuuge. I will never manage to own them all, let alone read them all :D

message 8: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) My wishlist is probably about 200 books. These are books I wish someone would list in swap here on goodreads, because I really want to read them but they aren't at my library. I've made a vow not to go shopping, though, until I finish at least 100 books that I own (out of more than 500).

message 9: by Sam (new)

Sam (ecowitch) | 2354 comments Mine is currently 224 but I blame GR for that! I never kept an actual list prior to joining and when I got the hang of creating my own exclusive shelves and made a wish-list shelf it just grew exponentially (obviously nothing to do with my lack of self control in adding books to the list mind you)!

message 10: by Dorottya (new)

Dorottya (dorottya_b) | 35 comments There is my more open wishlist (anything that catches my attention) - and there is the really close one with the books I really wanna read - that one is 10-15ish.

message 11: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59940 comments In three years, my wishlist has blown way out of proportion! Compared to the 28 that I reported when I started this thread, I now have 691. (ACK!) Somewhere along the line I started a priority shelf for the wishlist and there are 55 on it.

message 12: by Gavin (new)

Gavin (thewalkingdude) | 340 comments As big as my TBR.

message 13: by Debs (new)

Debs | 87 comments I actually abandon my wish lists for Amazon or Audible and just keep track here on Goodreads. TBR is a whopping 809 which is absolutely ridiculous. Usually I have no self control and if I come across something I must read I purchase immediately and read. Currently the only book I do not own but dying to read is The Book of Life: A Novel which I have on pre-order. I do consult my list on Goodreads when purchasing.

message 14: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59940 comments Now 692.

I use my wishlist in a similar way. If I see something I might like to read someday if the opportunity presents itself, I put it on my GR's wishlist. If there's something I have to have (like Mr. Mercedes or The Book of Life), I will buy them right away.

I'll give more weight to picking up a Kindle Deal of the Day if it's already on my wishlist. But, just being on my wishlist is no guarantee that I will buy it.

I also use my wishlist if I'm gophering for a challenge and there's nothing on my tbr that fits. (Gophering is a term we've coined on YLTO that describes when we are picking books for challenges, topplers, etc.)

I've kept my wishlist on Audible for their sales. One of these days, I'll cross reference the two wishlists.

message 16: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1791 comments I only have 130ish on my wishlist. I only buy what I can't get at the library or that I must own, favorite authors and/or series.

Online shopping puts these books as a priority but just browsing at a real store.....they aren't particularly in my thoughts. :)

message 17: by Marnie (last edited May 19, 2014 08:09PM) (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3260 comments I have 630 books on my wish list. When I joined this group last year I had maybe 3. There are a number of you I hold personally responsible :)

message 18: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I had to laugh when I saw the first post Janice with just 28 books on your wishlist! I used to just have a TBR but I now use that for books I own and have a wishlist for books I want to buy. I have a buy next shelf to prioritise what I buy next. I have 588 books on my wishlist!

I reckon we should do a buddy read for Mr. Mercedes - I know it's not out yet but I'm excited!

message 19: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 2103 comments I don't have a separate wishlist, but my to-read shelf here on GR is currently 2,740 books long (and many of those are just the first book in a series, so if I end up liking a series after reading the first one, then the rest of the series will be added to the list). I don't separate between books I want to own and books I'll try to find in the library. I also have a wishlist on Amazon, which partly overlaps with the GR one.

@Sarah: if we're doing a buddy read for Mr. Mercedes I'm definitely in - I have also marked it as TBR although it hasn't been published yet. King's books are those that I need to own.

message 20: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Marnie - I am ROFL!!!

I don't have a wish list. I only have a huge TBR list here on GR. These are the ones I want to read someday and it just keeps growing ever longer.

I keep a list of all of the books I own and have not read yet. I add to it as I buy them and remove them as I read them. The list never seems to get smaller although I have seen a small decrease over the last couple of months because I have tried really hard to find books I already have for challenges, or borrow from the library.

Oh, I forgot. I have a list of audio books on my iPod for when I go to the library. Mostly they are for favorite narrators.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I currently have 212 books on my wishlist and 148 on my TBR. When I first joined Goodreads, I had about 10 books on each!

message 23: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments I do not have a wishlist, just a super crazy TBR that stretches 10238 books long. I know, I know!

message 24: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59940 comments This thread is hilarious! We all certainly suffer from the same addiction.

One of these nights when I have nothing to do, I'm going to have to weed out my wishlist.

message 25: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1791 comments I'm finding that this thread is making me feel much better about my lists. They are not near as crazy big as some of the rest on here.

When anyone mentions that 130 to buy and 1000 books on the TBR is insane....I can tell them about you other crazy people!

message 26: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5194 comments My wish list (to-read in GR) is long of course, but i take it more as a reminder that of a TBR. My TBR is the physical pile of unread I have. This also is ridiculously huge. The chunkster challenge helps though as the thicker books are removed. It looks smaller. :)

Buddy read sounds good I'll have to go (twist my arm ugh!) Per order Mr Mercedes at audible. It is will Patton narrating.

message 28: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I buy mostly books not even on my tbr and usually forget to tbr them. Then I read a lot if series and tend not to tbr them until I have to see what the next book is after I read one so maybe 1200 - 1500 by the time I actually marked everyrhing

My preference for Mr. Mercedes is audiobook as well. We can set up a buddy read for it when it's published.

Who you calling crazy?? ROFL!

message 32: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1791 comments Yep, I'm calling you all crazy!! lol

message 33: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4535 comments No wish list for me, just 3378 books on my tbr and growing. Goodreads is like a good bakery. You tell yourself you only need 1 loaf of bread, a small one please, but everything looks so good, just being there is intoxicating, so you end up going home with bags full of goodies. Every time I read through one of these threads, I leave with 2 or 3 more books I just have to read. And now I'm hungry!

Suzanne | 1255 comments My TBR list on Goodreads are books I actually own, but intend on reading sometime. On the other hand, I have a separate wish-list of books I'd like to get. Right now, there are 44 books on that list, including
The Invention of Wings
The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics
The Girls of Atomic City: The Untold Story of the Women Who Helped Win World War II
The Good Lord Bird
The Orenda

Give it a couple of months, Suzanne. Your wish list will be as long as some of ours before long. Every month there is a new challenge and group read nominations and you will be adding books right and left because they all sound so good. I think I may have two of your five books on my TBR list of

message 37: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1255 comments Cherie, I have no doubt my list will be in the triple digits before the end of the year! It seems like my wish-list is growing exponentially. There seems to be no shortage of great books I'm "discovering" from the great people in this group. Loving it!

I just ordered Mr. Mercedes today - they (Adlibris) promised to send it within 2-5 working days. I thought it would be published in June? Must have been mistaken.

message 39: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments It is definitely published in June so I suspect their email was an automatically generated one! Let us know if you do get it early though!
