Terry Irving Courier
Hi All.
My first novel, "Courier," will be emerging from the Createspace mixmaster in two or three weeks. I could really use some reviews and am willing to:
--provide signed copies for a contest once it comes out.
--do a guest blog or review on your page.
--do a guest q&a on your page.

It's a thriller and intended to be plain old airport bookstore type of a fast read. There's a lot more on www.terryirving.blogspot.com.

If you're interested, let's get connected.

Jamie Marchant (jamiemarchant) | 36 comments I'm looking for reviews for my urban fantasy novella, DEMONS IN THE BIG EASY. It's a short read, and I'd be happy to gift a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Adventurous in her youth, Cassandra built gateways between Domhan and its parallel realm of Earth. Now she’s too old for that kind of thing. But something is making it easier for demons to pass into Domhan. Not only that, but their behavior becomes inexplicable: whenever Cassandra banishes one, it laughs at her rather than resists, and it promises it will soon devour her essence and that of every resident of her small village. Cassandra is certain such a thing is impossible, for strong wards protect her village.

But then Cassandra’s granddaughter Aine falls through an unstable gateway. Cassandra is the only one within a hundred miles capable of creating a gateway and bringing Aine back. Despite her aching joints, Cassandra goes after her, and the gateway lands her in New Orleans. But something goes wrong with her tracking spell, which indicates Aine exists in four different places at once. As Cassandra struggles to find the true location of her granddaughter in the Big Easy, she discovers the source of the demons’ confidence. Now, with an unlikely pair of allies—her timid granddaughter and a homeless man who may or may not be crazy—she has to not only save her granddaughter but also prevent both Domhan and Earth from being overrun by demons.

Mirta Trupp I'd like to present my Creative non-Fiction, "With Love, The Argentina Family~ Memories of Tango and Kugel; Mate with Knishes" for review. Any takers for this memoir?

Here's the blurb: Leaving behind a Peronista government, a stagnant economy and an anti-Semitic culture, the family transform into jet-setters relentlessly traveling back and forth across the continents thanks to a mother that never stops crying about "The Argentina Family" and a father who procures employment with Pan American Airlines. Insecure and torn, a young immigrant girl learns to divide her life in between her adopted country and her native land. Almost inevitably, a long distance, whirlwind romance blooms in the aftermath of Argentina's "Dirty War," including a frightening interrogation with the Argentine Police and an astonishing encounter at the American Consulate.

Richard Sutton (richardsutton) | 133 comments Hey, readers! I'm hoping to send out free review copies of my most recent book, Troll, to appropriate GoodReads readers. It's a 62K word, prehistoric/fantasy novella, and here's the extended pitch:

At what point did humanity learn to fear each other? To hate? Paleo-Anthropologist Ariel Connor thinks she knows. She just can't prove it yet, but her newest find, high in a Norwegian Valley may give her the proof she needs. Those scary stories we've told our children to keep them from roaming too far outside the gleam of the porch light may have come from real incidents, many, many years ago. While Dr. Connor's excavation continues, the story of what happened is slowly revealed.

Two clans are converging on the remaining game lands. One will have to leave their homes, one will tell stories and sing songs of their own bravery. A simple hunter and his young daughter stand in the way. They undertake a desperate journey to heal the enmity and fear, to share their knowledge, to bring lasting peace. One people will disappear while the other will bring their own history into the modern world. One way of life will be lost, but does the better way endure? What have we learned from the ancients that would have been better forgotten?

Anyone interested, who can write a full review, please contact me at author-at-sailletales.com I will send you a coupon, good for a free copy in any desired eBook format on Smashwords, including Kindle.Troll Troll by Richard Sutton

Anne Pyterek | 9 comments Hi, my name is Anne and I would like to start writing reviews of indie books.

I'm looking for stuff that is like my own writing (which is not yet available): literary fiction with unusual twists, erotica is ok as long as it's not vulger, I don't have much use for romance unless it's wildly atypical. Basically I love intellectual writing that refuses to take itself too seriously.

My plan is only to review books I love. If I think it's awful I won't review it. I need to focus strongly on the positive...in preparation for my own writing's debut!

I will post my reviews anywhere you like and, after I have a few written will start a blog for them.

I need to be able to read them on my phone.

email me to start the ball rolling!

xxoo,
Anne Pyterek

Steve Berkowitz (mrbsreads) | 14 comments Hi everyone,

I am always looking for honest reviews of my children's short story, Chocrotes and the World Without Question. This book is meant for readers ages 8 and up, elementary school teachers, and parents.

Chocrotes is a fable that explores the power of questions and standing up for what you believe. The story takes place in a world of Chickens where there are not questions allowed, and follows the life of a chicken who stands up for the right to question.

If you are interested in reviewing Chocrotes, I can send you a free ebook version in return for an honest review.

Thanks for your time!

With my small options of Amazon and others they consider it Horror,Occult. I consider it Dark Fantasy, Dystopian of sorts, and probably NA (when I started writing this book those weren't as big a genre). Definitely NOT young adult for sure.

Sounds like we have something in common. I've always felt if an author can't handle the fact that some people won't like their book, they shouldn't publish it. In fact, I don't understand the concept of authors thinking that people should only write reviews that the author likes. Totally misses the purpose of reviewing books, which is, and always has been, to inform other readers about what to expect from a book. And we wonder why people think Indie authors are amateurs.

Cynthia Joyce | 24 comments Most reviewers are not well trained professional reviewing. Their reviewers are more of "I really liked it. It had many twists and turns" sort of drivel. The fact is that reviewers are dependent on the authors and publishers. Readers do not give reviewers free books. Nor do readers pay magazines and newsppapes that have well trained reviewers on staff. Money does not flow from readers to reviewers. It flows from authort, publishers to reviewers. Bad reviews have devasting effects while good reviews often have little effect. If you were to make a study of the reviewers and reveiw sites famous for their reviews, as I have, you would find that the famous reveiwers articulate elements of books in ways that are insightful but do not turn readers away from the book. Writing a review and giving it ranking marks is not about showing off the reviewer's supposed savy. It is about assisting the authors and publishers in letting readers know about books in such a way that the readers, not the reviewer, decides what is bought. Refusing to review is enough of a statement because without reviews no one will know the book is available. With Indie sales, all costs, and there are many, are borne by the author. A reviewer who is so egocentric that he or she thinks his view will be shared by all readers and gives less than three stars is a reviewer to be shunned by self-publishing authors. Even if what the reviewer says in his or her actual review is on the positive side, readers look for the marking ranks. Few marking ranks, whether they be stars or coffee beans hurt sales.

No author wants an "honest review." An author wants and needs reviews that will help sales. Honest, thorough, critical reaction to a book is to gotten before the book is published. To think otherwise is what is amateurish.

If indie reviewers want to help indie authors, they should decline to post publicly reviews of books they simply don't like or find full of error. They should let the author know privately why they will not be posting a review.

There are many posts on Goodreads of authors reporting situaions where their reputatons and aspirations were trashed because an Indie reviewer did not have the professionalism to politely decline to publically review and let the author know privately in what areas their book needs work.

Wow, this sounds like a big rant here. I couldn't disagree more. First off writers and publishers need reviewers a lot more. They have money to buy books, and probably those are books they really want to read. They are taking time that they could be doing other things to review your book.

Most reviews I have gotten have been thoughtful and a lot more than "I liked it" I've gotten excellent feedback on what to do for my next book. It's not the reviewers responsibility to not publish a review if they don't like it. Reviews are to let other readers know if the book is worth buying and a lot of the tarnished reputations is because the writers are too precious to handle criticism. I see from previous posts and the fact you posted this rant other places you are one of those writers. My advice? Stop now. If you can't handle a bad review don't read them at all.

Terri ♥ (aka Mrs. Christian Grey) (mybookboyfriend) | 6 comments First off I'd like to say that reviews aren't written in promotion for an author. They are written by a reader who has their independent views. No matter what they rate it, that is their opinion. And if you don't want your book reviewed, don't write. If you look at the reviews for popular books like Fifty Shades of Grey and Twilight, you will see they have there fair share of low ratings. Not ever will 100% of the people who read your book like it.

Additionally, some reviews go with the Goodreads standards of ratings. And 3 stars means I liked it. So what's wrong with three stars? Only 1 star means I didn't like it. So 2-5 isn't really so bad if you look at it that way.

Any review good or bad, puts your book out there. And people won't not read your book because one reviewer gave you a 3 or a 2 or a 1 star rating. Now if all your reviews are 3 and less, that's a different story.

Buck up and dust yourself off. Get over the ratings and if you can't handle criticism, don't write or don't read reviews. This is the life of an author. You aren’t the first or the last to get a review you don’t like.

And learn from other author mistakes. Gettting mad and writing bad things about a reviewer will get you shunned from the reading community. Prime example the author of the book the Selection. I personally won’t ever read it because of the back lash the agent and the author did because of one negative review.

Good luck.

Yes, yes, yes! It's totally wrong to say that no author wants an honest review. Shit, if someone has bothered to take time out to write a review, whatever it says, it means that your work has been recognised and provoked a reaction. Damned right. Still waiting for my first bad review but when it comes (and it will) I'll take it like a bitch and learn from it. End of.

Ubiquitous Bubba (ubiquitousbubba) I'm looking for reviews of my debut novel, Reality Challenged. Reviewing a large stack of books is hard work. I'm hoping this one will lighten your load.

Reality Challenged (The Other Universes, #1) by Ubiquitous Bubba

A mixture of Science Fiction, Adventure and Humor, this book features a bizarre cast of characters in strange universes. Multiple story lines diverge and intertwine in a style similar to books by Terry Pratchett.

You're a busy person. You've been working hard to carve out time for reviews. You're juggling all of the competing priorities in your life. You're doing your best to keep up with the demand and get those reviews out there. I think it's time you had some fun.

If that sounds good to you, PM me or email me at [email protected]. I can get you an eBook copy in ePub, mobi, or other popular formats. Why don't you just kick your shoes off, sit back and let me tell you a story? It'll be fun.

Melissa | 4 comments I searched a bit deeper into what happened and it seems like there was a particular review she was not happy with. I happen to be friends on here with that person and I can tell you that she is never cruel in reviews and is always constructive. To me this is another example of an author behaving badly. I can understand if you were upset because someone was negative about your book if they had never read it as happens with a number of popular authors like Stephanie Meyer.

Goodreads is not about kissing the behinds of the authors. It is about letting other readers know what we think of the book. No we are not professional reviewers but honestly I go by what real people think more than a professional reviewer who is paid to give their opinion.

I personally have a policy of never being cruel in my reviews. I take the teacher approach and tell you where it went right and were it went off track for me. I know on here it is all the rage to post snarky meme filled reviews. I get it I do. I'm not one of those people but I can see why they are so popular.

Terri ♥ (aka Mrs. Christian Grey) (mybookboyfriend) | 6 comments Haha, Melissa. Well said.

I don't read reviews by professional reviewers when making my reading choices. I usually listen to my friends with the same reading taste. Just because a book is well written doesn't mean I'll like it. We all have certain taste. And if your book promises on something it doesn't delivery based on the genre and summary, I'm not going to like it no matter how eloquent the words are.

Jay Nichols (jaynichols) | 8 comments For everybody who likes free stuff, my new short story, Book of Suburbia, is free today (April 15) on Amazon Kindle.

http://www.amazon.com/Book-of-Suburbi...

Caution: This story takes digs at organized religion and post-millennial America. You hardcore Christians probably won't like it.

That said, here's the rundown:

In the distant future, the Holy Bible has been amended with stories set in Twenty-First Century America. Book of Suburbia is one of them.

Two young prophets, Austin and Chad, are traveling door-to-door, evangelizing on a quiet Saturday afternoon, when they come upon the house of a deranged insomniac. Things get uncomfortable real quick.

This is a quick read (about 3500 words). If this story sounds interesting to you, please don't hesitate to download it. A review here or on amazon would be greatly appreciated, but of course isn't necessary.

Thank you and have a great day!

Jay

Sorry just feel a need to comment on this. Mod feel free to delete if it goes against the thought of this thread. Anyway, I just wanted to say that while I understand offering services to review books there are plenty of people who are more than willing to do it for free. If I were an author I would hesitate to pay someone for a review. It is different when you are talking about a professional paid by a newspaper etc. An author paying directly to reviewer always feels "off". `So while I respect your right to charge people for a review I would still warn authors to hesitate on that. I've seen a huge stink raised on goodreads in the past over authors who have paid people for reviews. Whether they were genuine reviews or not. Just something to keep in mind.

Briana Lawrence | 3 comments Treat Me Kindly by Briana Lawrence

Hi everyone! I've recently published my first book. "Treat Me Kindly" is a supernatural murder mystery that takes place in current times. Mild mannered Matthew Sharpton is having the worst existence possible. He lives in his parents' basement after his fiancee upgraded to a better man. To make his father happy, he goes to a charity auction hosted by the company the old man works for. While there, he ends up bidding on a beautiful bird and taking it home. It's here that he discovers that this isn't an ordinary bird. The bird has the ability to turn just as human as Matthew -- minus the thinning hair. The woman is more than happy to belong to Matthew as long as he does one simple thing. "Treat Me Kindly."

Meanwhile, Alex Sampson is a detective assigned to a case where Frank Marko, an ex-rockstar, has been found dead in his home. The only evidence is a small butterfly that was found by the body. The strange thing about the butterfly is that it's an extinct species. After some investigating, Alex discovers that the butterfly came from a charity auction that promises "rare" and "exotic" animals unlike any other. Those words ring true as more people in the city are killed in bizarre ways, the only evidence being some sort of remnant from an animal.

If this is something anyone would be interested in reviewing, please email me at [email protected] I will provide you with a free eBook copy of the book.

Thanks, and take care!

Cate's Book Nut Hut (catesbooknuthut) I'd like to throw my hat in the ring here with my humble little book review blog :

http://catesbooknuthut.wordpress.com/

I read most every genre, but cannot seem to find a liking for bodice ripping romance (sorry to all you who write in this genre). On my blog I have a review and ratings guideline, plus my current to be read stack. Don't be daunted by its length though, I currently get through, on average, 3 books per week as I am in recovery from surgery, and post my reviews as I finish each book after taking notes while reading.

If, after looking at my blog, you would like me to review your work, you can either contact me via the blog or here on Goodreads.

Thank you for your time reading this, and also all the hard work you put into keeping us bookworms happy.

I am both an author and a book reviewer. The latter because I read a lot.

I once signed up to be a regular reviewer on NetGalley and The Kindle Book Review. I was inundated with so many requests from people who should never have published the book that I had to do something. I had a fleeting thought once to charge money. I thought that would make people pause before requesting a review. However, I didn't have the time to read what I liked AND read paid reviews AND write books. So I quit taking requests. I now review only what I choose to read.

As a writer, I've requested reviews from all walks of life. There are reviewers who charge a small fee for the same reasons I mentioned. There are also reviewers who run a review-mill. I don't mind the former in the least, as they tend to write more thoughtful reviews than those who do it free. The latter are a plague. Knowing the difference is a simple matter of checking their existing reviews.

Melissa's prices are reasonable, I've read a couple reviews and find them light, but to the point. I don't see her offer as a bad thing.

Peace, Seeley

Jay Nichols (jaynichols) | 8 comments My novel, Canis Major, is free for review here:
http://www.amazon.com/Canis-Major-ebo...

It's kind of long (192,000 words) but definitely unlike anything you've ever read before.

Daniel J. Weber (digerbop) | 7 comments I review DRM-free indie books at http://digerbop.ca I am committed to bringing the best indie and DRM-free content to light in a witty manner that hopefully will do more than just tell people about the book. I try to find what the good and bad in every book I review and seek to inform and entertain with my reviews. I primarily review fantasy, horror, and sci-fi though am open to other genres on a case by case basis (excluding erotica and romance). Excluding all of my preferences, the book has to be DRM-free at the distributor, a criteria that I will not budge on. (FYI, I also post my reviews on Goodreads and Amazon after the fact)

Feel free to DM/PM me.
