Build through five wonderful books to a climax and incredible beautiful ending - Tairen Soul series starting with
Lord of the Fading Lands and ending with Crown of Crystal Flame
glad there will be spinoffs!
One that I liked but lost interest about the fourth book was Kelley Armstrong's series that started with Bitten

I really like the Succumbus Series too by Richelle Mead and the last book will be out this year, although it is also good because I don't think it could be dragged out anymore, but I will still be sad to see it end.
Ones that I think should have already ended would be the Outlander series, don't get me wrong I love this series and I love Jamie and Claire but I think it has been dragged out way too long now unfortunately, especially with the latest book in the series.
I am starting to think the Southern Vampire series has been dragged out too long as well and I love this series too but I just don't know where it is going from here.
I liked the Fever series but I honestly wasn't sad to see it end, maybe because I didn't start reading it until the last book was out so I knew it was ending.
I was sad to see the Vampire Academy series end. I liked all the characters, of course now there is a spin off of it.
I love the Chicagoland Vampire series but who knows how long that can last either.
I know I am forgetting a bunch of series but I can't remember all of them right now. I am sure once someone else posts them I will smack myself in the head and go "Oh yeah! I love that series too!"

Series' that I wish never ended The Hunger Games Trilogy Boxset Vampire Academy
Series' that should be put out of its misery The Vampire Diaries House of Night Boxed Set

I feel like Laurell K. Hamilton's Meredith Gentry series is longer than it should be. I'm on A Lick of Frost and the past couple book seem like filler and that they all could have been put together in one book. Even though I know there are only 9 books in the series it still seems way longer than necessary.
I was sooo sad when the Fever series ended! I want to read it again as soon as possible. I devoured Shadowfever!

Lost Interest in: Anita Blake and The Southern Vampire series.
As far as I'm concerned Jamie and Claire can continue forever. As much as thenseries drags some, it is always like revisiting old friends.
An off topic non PR that I would like to see continue is Robin Hobb 's Farseer Series.

Hobb's Fitz Chivalry was a wonderful character to read. I agree, that was a sad one to see end and I didn't like the ending. I had hoped he would move on from Molly.

After reading your post, I checked out the Outlander series... Am I seeing things right? Outlander is 800 and something pages?? I must be in book heaven! lol
Is it really that great of a series?

Hahaha... I totally mentioned that one up there, but your right. END THE DAMN SERIES ALREADY! lol
I have not, and will not, buy the latest book, nor do I plan on finishing the series.

That sounds so awesome! I am off to see if I can get it on my kindle :)Thanks for the recomendation, Terry.

Series that need to end: I broke up with the Sookie series after book 9. I got tired of Sookie's POV all the time and the story seems to be floundering.
I'm gonna get stoned for this but I think the BDB needs to end too. The romances get pushed further away from the spotlight only to be replaced with multiple wandering subplots. Also the things that started out quirky nine books ago are starting to look ridiculous.

I won't beat you up on the BDB. You have some balls to say it and I agree. I have the new one and haven't cracked the spine. The only reason I am going to read it is because V is a primary character and I love him.
YAY Akaria. I agree about the BDB books. Of course, (pulling out the kevlar here) I thought it should have ended with the first book. That was the WORST written book I've ever read. I tried 3 times to read it, and never did get past page 5. I did manage to get through book 2, but it took me THREE DAYS--and considering that normally I would have read 4 or 5 books in that time. . .
I'm waiting for Sookie's books to end too--but I'm hanging in there, because I really want to see who Charlaine pairs her with.

Demonica (Pleasure Unbound) and ACRO (Riding the Storm), both by Larissa Ione. Apparently she likes to quit while she's ahead.
It's a sweeping generalisation, but I'd say most series have about 5-6 books in them tops, and after that the author's struggling to keep from repeating themselves. You can keep having HEAs with protags, but even those start to feel played out by the sixth book. And the world-building has to be pretty spectacular to keep throwing up new points of interest that the author can build plot around past book six. Cataclysmic events that reshape everything can give you maybe one more book, but yeah, I've yet to meet a series I enjoy into its 7th book. Happy to be corrected though.
And I have to say I admire authors with the stones to end the party when everyone's on a high. I think it generates a lot of goodwill that carries them into their next venture. I'm looking at you, JR Ward.
One series I wish would end, yesterday: the Morganville vamps. When is she going to put that lot out of its misery?

I think it's a matter of personal preference. I love long series, because once I'm invested in a good, unique world and recurring characters I want to stay there. The key word is "good."
It's probably the exception to the rule, but apparently the best is yet to come in the Psy-Changeling world with #10, Kiss of Snow. It's an RT Reviews Top Pick, Gold.

Eve Dallas; House OF Night series

The Guild Hunter (Nalini Singh)
I'm anxiously waiting For the last Georgina Kincaid Novel and Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh

Wish the Fever Series had never ended and.... *sign* I wish Stephenie Meyer had finished Midnight Sun and maybe the rest of the books! I'm obsessed! I can't help it!

Ooohhh... I am so with you. I wish Stephanie finished Midnight Sun, too. Who cares if some of her chapters were stolen! Does she honestly think that makes a difference to people who have read and reread her book? I loved what I read on the internet. Edwards point of view... AWESOME!

if you're team eric i would recommend reading sookie book 4 because eric is just *swoon* in it!

Sive, Guild Hunters isn't over yet! Singh's got the green light for two more books after Dimitri's which comes out this fall.

as upset as i am with the series i cannot stop myself from reading it. its like a car wreck; you know you shouldnt look but you just cant help yourself. i am so sick of HoN but i feel like ive put this much time in in that i cant not see how they wrap it up b/c it is a ridiculous mess. and enough w/ stark already. so over him!

@ Jeanine - I loved Edwards point of view as well! I could read three more books just like it!

Me, also.

And honestly, even thought it's been some quite time, I HATED seeing the Harry Potter Boxset series end. I think I cried throughout the entire last book.
Ah Dead Until Dark Sookie, I used to love this series more than any other. Book 9 was the beginning of a downward spiral, and by Book 10 I was sitting there befuddled and asking "What happened to this series?" :( Same pretty much goes for the series True Blood on HBO. It seems like they keep trying to top their own ick factor every episode. "Look how gory and graphic we can be!" I don't get easily offended and consider myself extremely open-minded, but all of that just for the sake of it and not serving some purpose is just really unnecessary. Plus, I hate how Anna Pacquin plays Sookie with the power of a thousand suns. And the show hasn't made me really CARE about the characters like I did from experiencing the books. Well, maybe superficially, cause Eric, Alexander Skarsgard is HOT!
I started BDB last year and loved the first few books. After just finishing Lover Unbound, I find myself annoyed. They are starting to seem like the same formulaic book over and over again with few details changed. I just don't get the obsession anymore. It also really lead me to realize that I think that formulaic HEA PNR is just not my cup of tea anymore. Especially the ones that have a different couple every book. I much prefer more edgy UF series with a Kick-Ass heroine. ;) Or a couple that I can really get invested in over multiple books. Anyone got any recs for more series like those??

I was over Stark when he was molesting that girl... I still like Eric. He wasn't that much of an ass. I can't imagine what guy wouldn't be an ass after his girlfriend a)slept with her teacher b)makes out with her human consort c) develops a relationship with another fledgling.
Eric was super HOT!
After you read the series, you can just tell me how the train wreck goes. lol

2008? Damn! I guess she wasn't kidding about here being "no timeline." I am not holding my breath. Does the lady even write anymore? lol

I definitely could read all of the Twilight Saga in Edwards POV. Maybe even a prequel about what his life was like before Bella.. Hint Hint Stephanie Meyers...

I'm pretty sure I could never have enough Psy-Changeling books. I love that world, I love Nalini Singhs writing, and while not all books were equally awesome, the overarching storyline stays great. Oh, and her changelings are totally eatable.
I'm also waiting frantically for more Alpha&Omega books, but I'm not sure if there will be more. (Alpha & Omega: A Companion Novella to Cry Wolf)

I am all for Erik not being a jerkface anymore, but the Casts would have a lot to do to make him be regular again. Team Heath, lol!

OOHH!!! I like that!!! Pre-Bella Edward!!!

Patricia Briggs still has Jan. 2012 as the release date for the next Alpha & Omega book, Fair Game on her website. I have been looking forward to the next book forever, and hope the book is not pushed back or cancelled at all. I love Charles and Anna.

Ah I'm a disciple of the P/C series myself, but again, it was at book 7 that things started to get tedious. Dev Santos is on my hit list of characters to throw into a black hole, should the opportunity ever arise. And apart from the interesting niche she creates for Sophia in the 8th book, BoJ was just as blah for me.
But yes, I'm pacing the floor like everyone else for Kiss of Snow. She's done a good job of drawing that tension out w/out driving us all insane.

But Moss, what about Play of Passion?? I totally dig that one, and it got me drooooooling for Kiss of Snow :p
I think PoP did a good job of setting things up for KoS, but the story itself...yeah it was okay. But apart from the dominance issue, it could have been Riley and Mercy all over again. I think what the P/C series does well (and this is why I'm still a devotee and haven't abandoned it yet), is that she's doing a good job with the whole deconstruction of Silence thing, and it feels like she's building up to something. It feels...finite, IYKWIM.
KoS is definitely on my must-have list for this year, I'm with you there.

Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs Moon Called - I've only read the 1st 3 books but they are wonderful.
Dark-Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon Fantasy Lover Night Pleasures - although I'm not as obsessed with this series as I used to be I still love them.
Series I wish would end: Anita Blake Series by LKH Guilty Pleasures - after book 8 or 9 the series started going down hill and it's never recovered. The last book in the series I read was The Harlequin and I tried to read Blood Noir but couldn't get past the first 75 or so pages and I haven't tried or wanted to pick up another one since.
Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by J.R. Ward Dark Lover - The first 4 were fantastic but most of the other books weren't up to the first fours standards and I'm uninterested in the new characters Ward has been bringing into the series.
Dark/Carparthian series by Christine Feehan Dark Prince - The only book I'm looking forward to reading in the series at this point is Skyler/Dimitri's book. I've been wanting to read their story for 10 yrs but that's the only one that I'm still excited to read about.
