Meg Mims (httpwwwgoodreadscommegmims) My daughter and I challenged each other to a one-day read of Books 4-7 of Harry Potter. We stood in line to get the book by midnight, and then started reading. I don't think I ever took a nap till Book 7, because the camping stuff drove me nuts... but I beat her in finishing each one. ;-D Book 5-6 are my faves.

Alex Sinclair I just downloaded Spore by Ian Woodhead from the free kindle top 100. Not normally my type of genre, but it was actually pretty good. Not too long, but once I started reading it I read to the end.

I saw that book too and thought about downloading it so thanks for the feedback on it.

Alex Sinclair Hi Kate, it is pretty gross, lol, but it is a cool story. The free top 100 is becoming my new favourite page on the web, lol.

LOL I feel the same way! I downloaded that one yesterday. Hopefully I'll get to it this weekend.

S.J. Wright (sjwrightauthor) | 2 comments A lot of reviewers said that they read The Vampire's Warden in one day. It is pretty short, but it keeps you interested. I did read The Virgin Widow in one day. I'm a fool for historical fiction.

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 199 comments * Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - ~18 hours from the moment I paid for it. I got it on the date of release lol.
* The Lightning Thief
* From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs Basil E. Frankweiler
* Princess and the Penis (lol)
* Journey's End: Play
* Tuesdays with Morrie
* The Five People You Meet in Heaven
* The Alchemist - I didn't understand until I read it again.
* The Road

Cheryl Landmark (clandmark) | 375 comments Just finished reading Prophecy of the Sisters in one afternoon.

message 59: by Ruth (new)

Ruth (ruthie1) Yesterday I started and finished The 2nd Lie by Tara Taylor Quinn....a mystery that was pretty good!

message 60: by Nora aka Diva (new)

Nora aka Diva (DuctTapeDiva) On Chesil Beach by Ian McEwan is a good but short read, I read it in about 45 minutes.

message 61: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) I read All three Mortal Instruments in three days; taking one day each.

AND I read them each out loud; so that doesn't even include hours I was in school, hahahaha.

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 199 comments If I started a little earlier in the day today, I would've finished "A Visit from the Goon Squad" by Jennifer Egan in one day.

Wow that's pretty good! I've heard good things about the Mortal Instruments series, will have to mark it to read.

message 64: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Jackson I often (mostly) read a whole book in one day. I am a retired teacher - taught 33 years in the public school system - and raised my son, now 39, alone, but even back then I had to read every day. I now work part-time at Barnes and Noble, of course, and volunteer in a dog training school a few days a week, and travel with my dog as often as I can fit it in. I read at least two books a week because I love to read, and I write too. I have found that sometimes if I get into a book and can't put it down, I get the headaches too. Since I have started reading on my nook, I can change the font and font size, and that seems to take care of the headaches. And if the book is part of a series, I always try to have the next one ready - can't resist getting right into it, even if it's the middle of the night.

message 65: by Mawgojzeta (new)

Mawgojzeta I just finished reading Inside Out and Outside In by Maria V. Snyder and 1 1/2 days. Both books were fun reads, but very fast (YA).

What about books we would have read in 1 day, if we had been able to?
I bet everyone has a ton of those! You know, they books you can't wait to finish, and would literally read straight through, but life interrupts... (sigh) I have a lot of those. :(

Thalia (thaliaanderson) Kate wrote: "Wow that's pretty good! I've heard good things about the Mortal Instruments series, will have to mark it to read."

Oh, definitely! They are SO great! Definitely in the top two series I've ever read.

Another book I read in one day was Dreaming Anastasia. Not out loud, but on tour with my choir in Disneyland; so it HAD to be pretty good, hahaha.

You definitely have something there J.D. I know there were a lot of books I wish I could have read in one day. I loved Anne Rice's series of the Mayfair Witches and wish I could have read those in 1 day, but they were way too long for me to do that.

message 70: by Keryl (last edited Jun 09, 2011 12:06PM) (new)

Keryl Raist (kerylraist) | 66 comments Recent one day reads: Death Has a Name (Book 1 of the Brodie Wade series) by Jerry Hanel Death Has A Name, Hard Day's Knight (Black Knight Chronicles, #1) by John G. Hartness Hard Day's Knight, and Dragons of the Hourglass Mage (Dragonlance The Lost Chronicles, #3) by Margaret Weis Dragons of the Hourglass Mage.

Strictly from a quality of writing perspective, Dragons probably didn't deserve the one day read, but I'm a huge Raistlin fan and wanted to get the latest installment in his story. The other two were just that interesting and well written that I didn't want to put them down.

I'm of the opinion that as long as they're old enough to feed themselves, it's okay for you to take the occasional day off to read.

message 72: by [deleted user] (new)

I've only read two books in a day really, Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon. Books really have to grip me in order for me to read them very quickly.

LOL thanks!
I would have read Hit List in one day but I started the night before going back to work and too many baseball games. lol

message 74: by Thea (new)

Thea Atkinson (theaatkinson) I've actually read a few books in one day because I'm a really fast reader,the most recent would have been each of the twilight series. I read those over four days (although I must admit to not being able to finish the last one)

Did you just not finish the last one in the 'one day' time period or you didn't finish it at all?

As in you didn't get it done in a one day chunk of time, or you gave up reading?

message 77: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Valentine I don't often get a full day to read any more -- I used to -- but a couple months ago I picked up Ryne Douglas Pearson's Confession and just could not put it down. It was 2a.m. when I finished and my eyes burned all next day!

message 78: by Leah (new)

Leah | 13 comments Not being a quick reader, there are not many I have read in a day, but the last one was On Chesil Beach by Ian McEwan while on holiday a few years back.

message 79: by Roseann (new)

Roseann | 38 comments I read most books in one or two days, but the ones I can remember not being able to put down are:

Intensity by Dean Koontz

and

Centennial by James Michener

Intensity just grabbed me and would not let go and the Michener was during my Micener phase in 5th grade. I got into it in the afternoon one summer day and wound up reading through the night.

I love indulging myself with a book and putting off errands.

But hope your cupboards didn't go bare ;)

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 199 comments The one I'm reading now, "Nowhere to Go" by Iain Rowan could definitely be read in one day.

message 83: by Baxter Clare (new)

Baxter Clare Trautman There are probably a lot (because they were crappy and I skimmed them) but Misery is the one that stands out. Started it at LAX and finished five hours later in JFK.

Michelle (shadowrose) I just started and finished Undead and Unappreciated yesterday. It was good but the real reason I plowed through it is that I have a tough time sleeping so those are extra hours to put into a book.

message 85: by Baxter Clare (new)

Baxter Clare Trautman Ditto Leah - I'd forgotten On Chesil Beach, good,easy one dayer.

This happened to me for the first Dexter book. From LAX to JFK.

message 87: by Reading Wolf (new)

Reading Wolf (readingwolfminda) Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother I remember we were traveling and it was about 10pm. I got an email saying my hold was available so I downloaded this from the library onto my phone. I finished it before dark the next day. We were doing A LOT of night driving. One driver would start driving around dark and finish driving when the sun came up then the next driver would take over. I wasn't a driver my husband was so I had plenty of time and nothing else to do.

I cannot wait until I can download books from my library. Love technology when it comes in handy like that!

That is too cool. You should contact the author and tell them that. I know if someone told me that about my work I'd be on cloud 9 for quite a while.

Love Fahrenheit 451!

Dragonflydreamer68 Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen , was an awesome 1 day read.

message 98: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (barbarasc) | 8 comments I don't think I've ever read an entire book in one day!!! I'm somewhat of a slow reader.

I think I've read a few books in two days, and I've read many books in three days, but I don't think I'm capable of sitting still for a long enough amount of time to read an entire book in one day!!!!

I'm still trying to figure out how Nina Sankovitch read one book a day for an entire year. That's what her book Tolstoy and the Purple Chair My Year of Magical Reading by Nina Sankovitch is all about, and I've been meaning to read this book.

message 99: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Jackson I found that book to be very interesting. And even though I often read a book in one day, to do that every day for a whole year is not something that I think I could do. But I did like the book.

message 100: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Jackson BTW, the author has a website where she reviews books several times a month. It's called Readallday.org.
