Roger (highroad) | 1 comments So, I just started reading A Game of Thrones, but I am also interested in watching the show but I don't want to watch an episode that spoils anything I am yet to read in the book. Would one of you kind souls give me a general feel of how far each episode reaches in the story. Something non-spoilery would be nice like a chapter. I realize perhaps this is a monumental request, but I would certainly appreciate it.

Brandon Dunn | 40 comments Im sure a loose guide would be helpful, but certain things are a little different in the show. Entire sections of travel are cut out, for obvious reasons, Im not sure if the trend will continue but none of the dreams/visions have been included so far, and these usually make up multiple chapters.

My advice is to try and finish the book first. There are certain points in the show, where it means so much more if you know the entire book. At some scenes i wonder if people who havent read the book are simply scratching their head.

Faiz | 80 comments i cant think of a moment where scenes are out of order. Meaning that while they edit out sequences, they follow the same timeline. I am also currently reading along (not my first read though) and i'd recommend keeping a few chapters ahead of the show.

though the best thing would be to read the book through, but its up to you. I doubt you'll ever be spoiled, its your choice to decide what medium to have the story revealed to you.

Mike (isbeorn) | 29 comments I'd have to recommend reading through first. The show is going a little bit all over the place. They have to do a lot of condensing. At the very least, like Fuzz suggested, stay a few chapters ahead.

If you have the ability to DVR all the episodes indefinitely until you've finished reading I would do so. Plus I find consuming a series in just a few sittings is much more enjoyable than forced weekly episodes.

Thanks to Netflix I've been consuming all sorts of shows I never watched. I love watching entire seasons at my leisure instead of waiting. Dr Who for example. Now that I'm all got up I hate waiting for new episodes.

Back on topic, I've been reading the Tower of the Hand chapter summaries as I watch the episodes as kind of a refresher since its been a while since I've done a reread of the first book.
