While I'm here I'd just like to tell you about my latest release. Foul Justice is the fourth book in the Justice series.

Detective Inspector Lorne Simpkins is back on the force. Before she can get comfortable with her new partner, newly-promoted DS Katy Foster, the two are assigned a tragic murder case that looks like a robbery gone wrong. However, when another wealthy footballer's family meets the same deadly fate within twenty-four hours, it is clear the crimes involve something far more sinister.

Keeping her focus on unravelling the complex case isn't easy for Lorne when she learns news that throws her personal life into a spin—her fiancé, M16 agent Tony Warner, is involved in a dangerous covert operation in Afghanistan.
But innocent people are dying on her patch, and someone must catch the killers. Lorne can't allow this Foul Justice to prevail.

Alex (alexlukeman) | 102 comments Free today through Sunday on Kindle, White Jade Book One in the Project series. 4.7 rating and 21 reviews on Amazon. If you like fast paced action adventure thrillers, this book is for you. It's the last time I will offer it for free.
I'm now in final revisions for Book Four.
Thanks!

Caron Rider | 31 comments Well, I like helping indie authors and have featured a few on my blog (which I'm still willing to do if anyone is interested). The number one complaint I see is about poor punctuation and grammar, and I know that editing is expensive. So I have decided to help with editing as well. I'm charging $25/100,000 words because I think I should get paid something for my time but don't want to break anybody's bank. My blog is http://www.caronrider.blogspot.com or you can PM me here.

Philip Catshill (philipcatshill) | 6 comments Following a wonderful suggestion from Andrea Parnell I have written a 26K prequel to the Mike Newman Mysteries, and have lanuched it on Smashwords for FREE. For all Eternity (And not a single day less) is under the Romance Genre but carries a hint of the serious crime/paranormal to follow. Does anyone know how to list the book as FREE on Amazon? (Not the promotional days,) I mean, when you list a book, Amazon sets a minimum price. Is it something to do with DRM? Do you lose copyright if you deselect DRM? https://www.smashwords.com/books/vie...

message 410: by Caron (new)

Caron Rider | 31 comments Once you list it free on Smashwords, when you post on Amazon for .99, Amazon's little bot will go out and find it for free and it will discount it to free. Put it on smashwords first! that makes it so much easier.

Mary Cote (marycote) | 4 comments With A Dying Breath is a book about endangered animals from around the world, what can be done to help them, why they are endangered. The writer is autistic, and this book started off as a school project (he was homeschooled because of his challenges) to help with eye-hand coordination. It turned into a book that includes artwork and photographs from over 70 photographers/artists from around the world. Tony Walkden has a natural in-born love of all animals. He was taught math, reading, physics, history and geography by using an association to animals. He wanted to give something back to nature, so ALL of his royalties from this book go to the IUCN, the organization that monitors and rates animal populations, and works with smaller local groups to save endangered species. The pictures in the print book are full-color high resolution pictures. There is a discount code for the print copy to get $7 off if you purchase from the website on the link. The version through Kindle has the pictures, but in black and white. The digital version through the website has full-color pictures for your computer and tablet.

I hope you'll check the book out, learn about Tony, the animals, and about what people with autism are capable of doing.

Mary Cote (marycote) | 4 comments The Red of Flowing Blood I See.

http://www.writersamuseme.com/marycot...

Chuck Franklin had no intention of taking the US government up on their offer of a free vacation in Vietnam’s jungles. Instead, for reasons atypical of most, he started walking north. In Sundown, Manitoba, he was taken in by a pragmatic priest, found work on a neighboring farm, and soon started a new life free of the Unites States draft board...but was it a new life? His job helping Lang and Evie Forestburg became more as he gradually filled in for their son Scott, who had travelled to the United States to serve in a combat role with the USMC. Chuck became helper, son, and even lover to Scott’s fiancé. Scott, however, returns home in a coffin, and Chuck’s world turns on its axis yet again. A dead US marine from Canada gets no burial, no commendations, no recognition at all so, as marines are wont to do, they take matters into their own hands and travel to Canada to provide full military protocol for a fallen brother. Their presence and Chuck’s guilt work together to raise doubts; Chuck decides to return to the US in order to turn himself in. He will not be a coward. He will serve his time. Little does he realize that able-bodied dodgers, when located, were sent not to clean floors in Leavenworth, but to stand a post and walk an ambush through chemically-drenched jungles. After boot camp, two tours in Nam, sniper school, and the lost of one very dear friend who still haunts him, will Chuck ever be able to return home, and if he can, which country would home be?

message 435: by Steve (new)

Steve Vernon (stevevernon) I have been writing for a lot of years. I've published for traditional publishers and for e-publishers - as well as indie-publishing.

I think, at the end of the day - we are all indie writers. I mean, let's face it - we don't get all that much support in this business. No retirement plan. No medical insurance. We are a pack of gypsies, living by our wits.

I'd love for some of you folks to pick up some of my e-books. At prices ranging from $2.99 to $3.99 they aren't all that expensive. And it would mean the world to me to hear from some of the folks who have read my work.

I don't want to inundate this thread - but here are a couple of good reads you might want to check out.

Sudden Death Overtime by Steve Vernon This book is not just your average hockey/vampire novellette. And I know that most of you think that ” is just a fancy way of saying “I got tired of writing”, but I prefer to think of a novelette as being something more along the lines of a one-night stand kind of read. That's right - a novelette is in and out before you know it - with nothing but a slight hangover and a bad case of squirrel breath for your trouble.

The novelette is called SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME and it deals with the story of over-the-hill bush league hockey team from Labrador who go toe-to-tooth with a tour bus full of vampires. And we are NOT talking sparkly vampires. Think SLAPSHOT meets 30 DAYS OF NIGHT and you are somewhere close to the mark.

The bonus story is a time travelling hockey tale that I call “Time Out”.

If you hanker for something a little longer than you might want to check out
Tatterdemon - which is a fine and fat full length novel of scarecrow horror. Forget about your vampires and zombies. If you want something that really terrifies you pick up a copy of TATTERDEMON today.

Both of these are available in Kindle format. Tatterdemon is available for the Nook and the Kobo as well.

Alex | 2 comments Getting my current novel-in-progress right will probably kill me. But I want to give a plug to someone that has helped me to move forward.

If you’re ever in need of an excellent development editor, contact Elaine Chaika [email protected]. I recently used her services for a novel-in-progress with a very complicated plot. Where others have thrown up their hands at the work, she dug in, unearthed the problems and provided concrete suggestions for solving them. No kid gloves with Elaine. She’s an ex-prof, has written books on linguistics and blogs on grammar. You can check her out on Goodreads.

Bryan Mooney | 8 comments I think all of us Indie Authors could use the help of a good, nurturing editor as opposed to the cynics on Amazon who can only snipe at everyones work. Bravo. I plan to send her an email myself.

The biggest complaint readers have of Indie works is the grammar, mispellings, eta. Maybe there is a need for a service to help not only to help develope work but to do final polish and then give it a some sort of rating and a seal of approval.

message 444: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) | 4 comments I have to say that I continue to find real gems under the Indie Author umbrella. I can't remember the last time I actually read a traditionally published author.

Indies write with freedom and without having to stick to certain criteria.

It is vitally important to find and keep hold of an experienced and good editor. I'm now with Red Adept publishing and I couldn't be happier.

New authors need to be aware of editors who have jumped on the band wagon and have set up websites saying they're qualified editors though.

I know Red Adept's reputation continues to grow where other's have faltered.

Fortunately, my boss's secretary at work does my copy editing and occasionally tosses in some continuity questions to keep me on my toes. Even then, as she does mostly contracts, she tends to Over-Capitalize so I have to ignore some of her edits.

Once I have my current story complete and after I do a read through for consistency, I have a paid editor who has helped me before. I think we like to fight about stuff so its a good relationship.
