YA Apocalyptic and Dystopian Fiction discussion

So, I saw this in another book group and I like it. It's fun to see what pile of books people are preparing to read. I made it 5 books because I was trying not to get too crazy :) but, some of us may have more. Basically, just tell us about your upcoming reads.

Here are my next five, and I must say...I'm excited!

I'm impressed that you guys have them all lined up and ready to go. I have such a hard time deciding what to read each time I finish a book.

Suzy ~ that comes from having a "hold list" at the library - I get emailed when they're ready and put them in order of when they're due back! :)

I'm like Jen. I have three books on hold at the library. Plus I have my nook. I just have a super long tbr list.

Yeah, hex hall! I've wanted to read Infinity...let me know how it is. I started the Ship Breaker, but I never finished it. I'm gonna go back to it someday. I like the cover for Split...makes me curious to know what it's about.

I have so many unread books! Deciding what to read is not easy lol, but this is my line up.


I read a couple chapter of a while ago and definately want to go back and read it all.

Ooo...I LOVE Unwind. It was so good. He's becoming one of my favorite authors. Unearthly is good too, one of my favorites.

NO! I know, I know - it's horrible. LOL! I have been so cracked out with nursing school that I haven't read much of anything *FUN* over the 18 months! I'm going to read Unwind first - just downloaded it to the Kindle. Then maybe I will move City of Bones... LOL!

Well, as hard as it is for me to say this...you should put CofB off until you have time, because there are now four books and they are definitely 'can't put em down' kinda books.

Lucky for me, I have no nursing this summer - summer off!! Well, except for still statistics. But that won't hinder my reading. Muahahah!

I read Girl in the Arena a few months ago and while it wasn't the worst book I have ever read it definitely wasn't the best book out there.

Wow, I'm jealous that you guys can put your books in order. I've tried to do this before and always go off track! But then I always have trouble deciding what to read next so I really should put them in order. I have over 80 books in my house that I haven't read and I keep buying more.

The last Percy Jackson book is so good! It's by far my favorite of the series!

I enjoyed Jane. Haven't read the original, but thought this could ease me into the classic. Looking forward to Enclave.

Well, I didn't do too bad - the only one I haven't gotten to is Plague! :)

Ditto! :D But now I have to read one, because yesterday I just won a copy and got it signed by the author, so want to write something about it, and one because it's time to take it back to the library and one which is a sequel of a favourite. No 4th and 5th. ;)

Just finished it last night. I really loved it! I think that one and The Titan's Curse were my favorites of the series.

Nah...I was talking about The Last Olympian! Which has been my favorite so far. But The Lost Hero is definitely a close second! I'm really excited for Son of Neptune too! Should be really good!!

Percy Jackson is one of my favorite series!

I'm getting ready to start and I have and after that, in no particular order.

OOhhh! Let me know how Beauty Queens is! That one sounds very...odd, but in a good way. And Libba Bray is so funny!

I've never read one of her books but I'm really excited for it...it seems like it'll be really funny and a great summer read.

I'm actually really excited to pick that one up after seeing some quotes from it floating around the internet. Definitely let us know how it is.

So I just finished and I gave it 3 stars. It was an interesting story and there were definitely some parts that made me laugh out loud but I didn't love it. Mostly I just didn't care for the writing style. I do think you guys would probably like it though, but I don't think it's one you need to rush out and get.

These are books I'm reading to prepare for a book club group using dystopian novels. maybe since you guys are reading it.

Any feedback on these would be great.

Sara...I read Brave New World in high school. It's a great classic dystopian novel, that's the only one I'm familiar with. I think you'll really enjoy it.

Sara, Brave New World is a classic and so that pretty much means it's not a favorite of mine. But I have close friends who really liked it. For me it's just a little boring.

Fahrenheit 451 is so closely tied to reading it really is mandatory! It's rather good as well.
I'm about half way through Year of the Flood right now, thought provoking, but it is not as good as Oryx and Crake so far.
Valis is on my list'o'reads, but PKD is usually pretty good. I liked Ubik allot, and would say it fits the genre, but it's not YA.
