FYI: Poll is up for July SciFi Theme

Now, in case you're wondering why no PM was sent to everyone about this poll, it's simple. I'm trying something different.
If you regularly post in the forums, you should see this thread and know to vote.
If you regularly lurk the forums, you should see this thread and know to vote.
If you don't participate in the group very much at all, and only show up when PMs are mass-sent... welp, guess you miss out, eh? :P

Smary shorts, actually.
A rare sunny day for once :P

Me in a speedo would be considered Fantasy. Dark, horrible fantasy.
Also, if Space Opera wins, I'm nominating some Star Wars.
You've been warned.

So it was you who stole the sun...? :p
Yeah, for the better part of the day.
And then someone stole it back.
Stupid rain.

But Ala, isn't Star Wars actually fantasy?

I'd say books like the X-Wing series would be more sci-fi than fantasy, though I place most Star Wars under fantasy.
Depends on which book in the Star Wars EU you're reading, really. Some of it falls squarely in fantasy, some into military sci-fi.
As for why this poll doesn't show up in the polls section, I think I messed up when creating it. I'm such a n00b :(
It works out, though. This way you only know of the poll from this thread. And maybe from a friends update when they vote on it(haven't checked that).
So it's all secret-like. Secrety even. Secret Sauce?

I've read pretty much all of the Star Wars EU, up to their current story-line/series. With the exception of the Republic stuff.
Most of it is...well...pulpy. But some of it is rather stellar.
Though I, too, have yet to forgive GL for those awful prequels.

About 5 years ago I read all of the Star Wars novels in order of internal chronology and have kept up since. It took about 6 months, but was a fascinating journey. I would like to do it again, but need to do to all the Star Trek novels 1st, a much bigger undertaking—saying 10 times, sotto voce, "I shall not get into the SF or Fantasy debate, yet again..."
I'd suggest the Han Solo or Lando Calrissian trilogies. Both are excellent SF and each should be read as 1 novel.
Which Solo series?
And it was a great link, Sherri ;)

I've read one ST book.
I thought it was ok, so went to see how many other ST books there were.
I decided then and there that me reading them all was never going to happen.

I refuse to touch a Star Wars book on general principle. :P

I find it interesting that there's only 55 votes so far.

It's only 4 votes down, so there's a chance.

I'm with Brad on this one, though I think the ST novels from before Paramount became the arbiter of all things Trek tend to be better - the authors had greater scope for interpreting the Federation their way. (We still got some real stinkers - e.g., Black Fire, which has a blurb from Theodore Sturgeon that I can only imagine was extorted on his deathbed or they were holding a gun to his dog's head.)
In post-Paramount Trek, I'd go with David Mack.

Kernos, that is one large undertaking. Maybe you should consider writing up a grant and seeing if someone will pay you for the years it will take to get through the ST books --..."
LOL I've not started them 'cause I cannot figure out how to order them!

And it was a great link, Sherri ;)"
The Han Solo Adventures a trilogy starting when Han was a troubled teen.
