Jen (jenlr) Yikes, either she is having a bad day or she just doesn't know how to nicely respond to people. Either way, there's no excuse to snip at a fan with a simple question. I mean really it would have taken a fraction of the time to say no I'm not planning on writing more in said series but please check out my blog for other possible reads

From my pov right now I would say if you really like her books then maybe keep reading them.

On the other hand I tend to hold a grudge if people are rude to me and I don't know if I would take my own advice...

Library Lady 📚 | 51 comments WOW!!! I can tell you that there are gazillions of books with bonding, sarcasm and hot guys, with authors who won't treat their fans like crap. I cannot believe an author would write that to a fan and expect that the fan would not boycott her books, tell everyone not to read them, and post awful reviews (WITH her name). All I can say is, if i'm ever that rude, i really honestly hope the fan would stop buying my books.

And I have to say, you handled the response in a MUCH classier way than the unnamed author handled your harmless and reasonable question. Although if you did tell me her name, i'd probably stop buying her books (if she's someone I read).

Sorry about that letter. I know it would have ruined my day. Authors are kind of like mini-celebrities to me, and it would burst my bubble if i found out my favorite author was, excuse my french, a b***h. :( Hope today is better for you! and I apologize for the embarrassing behavior of writers. We're generally non-social people. But that's no excuse to be rude!

Alyssa Ricks | 8 comments Jennifer - I figure this is Rob and you were asking about her Cal Leandros series; sorry to put it out there, but I think people should know how rude she is. She wasn't just having a bad day, I've seen numerous threads showing her posts to twitter and her blog and such and she's incredibly rude and entitled. I had read and liked the first couple Cal books, but after finding out how awful she is I will never buy another of her books. I'm sure if you did a little search around GR you'd find ample evidence that this is her personality, not just a fluke on a bad day.

She doesn't deserve for you to leave out her name - you're being too nice!

Jennifer (jenlopez1283) | 55 comments And I was just going to delete his name after reading her response.
Well, it was very long so I dont think I should post it. And I appreciate her taking the time to write such a long response to me but I still feel there are certain things that come with the territory. While I know it can be frustrating getting the same question constantly you cant blow off fans like that. I understand she is struggling I really do, considering I am a single mother, but as anoying as it might to say the same thing over and over it needs to be appreciated that there are people out there taking the time to ask you in 1st place. I dont know what to say anymore, I feel bad but at the same time I dont get to speak to my customers like that or put my burdens on them because at the end of the day without them I cant pay my bills.

Miguel Conner | 5 comments She makes 60 cents on a 7.99 book? What kind of contract did she sign?

Hope she signed a better deal on her e-books, unless she's too busy hating on a world in a time when, regardless of occupation, we're all under a pressure cooker.

Miguel

Cindi (cindij) | 8 comments I must have missed the original post on this topic. Who is the author and what happened?? I can't balieve anyone would be rude to a follower/reader.

message 8: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Elsborg It's just common courtesy to be polite to everyone - I really try hard never to react to unkind remarks tempted as I sometimes am, but this was just a question that had been asked before? Wow. I've never had a message from a fan that I haven't answered immediately. I'm so grateful for people taking the trouble to contact me - I can't imagine what this author was thinking.

Silke Juppenlatz (silkejuppenlatz) | 14 comments @ Barbara -- ditto.
I haven't had any bad reviews yet *touch wood* but one raised some questions I (and my editors) should have caught.
I take it as constructive criticism and always try to find out exactly where it went wrong for the reader, so I can do better next time. :)
I think the Internet fosters rude people, and I try not to be one of them. If someone bought my book and took the time to read it, and contact me, or review it -- then I'm grateful, no matter what. The last thing I'd do would be to be rude. Sheesh. Some people.
Although -- it gets her publicity. Just maybe not the kind she wants!
