I just finished The Talisman Ring last night. After reading a lot of paranormal books, it was a refreshing change! I even purchased (okay, it was free) another of her books to read on my Kindle in the future. Thanks for the suggestion! I hope to read the other one some time next week while I'm on vacation.

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments Finished my buddy read with Miss, Wither (Chemical Garden, #1) by Lauren DeStefano . Despite a few problems I had with scientific/technical aspects of the plot, overall it was an interesting world DeStefano built and I'll probably read more.

Glad you enjoyed it Sue - they are a definitely change in pace from most of the romance books (even historical)... Their strenght is in Heyer's writing skills IMO...

Sue (knitwitsl) | 226 comments I finished my third book from this challenge yesterday, Games of Command. I thought it was an interesting change of pace and I enjoyed it. I think there was some kind of review that said it was a space soap opera, and I'd have to agree with that!

Laura Williams | 144 comments I finished my buddy read with Pollyanna! on 6/19. I gave Soulless 4 stars! Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 1099 comments Aleksandra

I finished The Corset Diaries last night. As advertised parts were LOL funny. It was an amusing read and also had more heart to it than I would have thought. Highly enjoyable.

I also started The Reader on audio. I think I actually did read this when it came out. But I'm enjoying the Campbell Scott narration anyway. Don't know if I'll finish that one, even though it's short, because I typically only listen to audiobooks during my commute and and I'm vacation for the week but we'll see.

Thanks for the great picks!

message 524: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11353 comments I finished Going Down on the 18th - it was another buddy read with Lili. I enjoyed it and look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series, but I think it could definitely have been improved if it had been lengthened and more detail added.

message 525: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 236 comments I just finished by June PIFM. I read The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by F. Scott Fitzgerald. For some reason I didn't realize it was so short, only 32 pages. I gave it 4 stars. I enjoyed it though and now I really want to watch the movie and see how they've adapted it. Thanks Katharine for the recs!

message 527: by Ashley♥Alexis (new)

Ashley♥Alexis | 309 comments I just finished my buddy read: Acquainted with the Night. When I first read the description of the book I could not understand how it ended up on my TBR list because i'm not a fan of Syfy. This book was an exception! It was great but totally broke my heart. I gave it 5 stars! Thanks buddy for sticking with me through my emotional upheavals =}

message 528: by Shell (new)

Shell | 2 comments Melissa,

Finished your rec of Perfect Chemistry (Perfect Chemistry, #1) by Simone Elkeles . It was GREAT! Thank you so much for the rec. I can't wait to pick up the 2nd book in the series tomorrow from the library. LOL I enjoyed the book so much that I checked out the audiobook from the library just to hear Alex's part read ....and by a narrator with a yummy Latino accented voice. *sighs*

message 529: by [deleted user] (new)

Inga,

I finished Angelfire half an hour ago and giving it 5 stars without a doubt. I enjoyed the storyline - for once the heroine isn't a naive little girl, but quite a badass and I love it how the writer tangled mithology into the story, it all fits so perfectly. Once I started reading I couldn't stop, so thank you for this great rec!

Pam, this book is maddening! Sorry it took so long for me to get it in, but I started it yesterday and and now am more than halfway through. This is my first Jennifer Ashley and she is so easy to read. Ian is driving me crazy with his antics. I feel the need to fly through the book in order to catch up with him. Great read thus far. D.G. | 4477 comments I didn't think I was going to fit another book from Amanda's recommendations but some of the gals at another group I belong to were going a buddy read of Feed (Newsflesh, #1) by Mira Grant and I decided to join them (killing two birds with one stone and all that). I'm really enjoying it!

message 542: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (pip_squeak) I've just finshed buddy reading the The Iron Duke (Iron Seas, #1) by Meljean Brook with D.G & Dee, I won't say too much as I think Dee is still reading it but I wasn't very impressed with it:-( x x

message 543: by Amanda (new)

Amanda D. (tinyminx) | 634 comments Jeez, D.G.! Such an overachiever! ; )

But seriously, I'd say Feed may be one of the best books I've read in the past few years.

I've also finished my pick, Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James. Her dialogue kills me, though I found the romance a bit more subdued than some of her other books.

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments Daughter of the Forest (The Sevenwaters Trilogy, #1) by Juliet Marillier Daughter of the Forest, Juliet Marillier, 6-24-11

I had trouble getting into this at first. I usually love retold fairytales, so I'm not sure what the problem was. It was a beautifully told story, but the pacing felt slow. I'll probably try to read the next book at some point.

I read both Wicked Appetite and Darkfever... I have to say I wasn't as Impressed with either as I had hoped to be... I did like them both, But I feel like the all of the Janet books are so similar and I was hoping this one would be a little different and it really wasn't. as for Darkfever, I did like it and I will probably read the next one, however from all of the times I have seen it recommended and the great reviews I guess I was hoping to be blown away... I don't feel like any questions were really answered almost like it should have been just the first half of the book... again, I will still pick up the next one if only to appease my curiosity... either way I always appreciate a recommendation and and I am hoping to read Graceling and True Colors soon too!

message 548: by Tiffanny (new)

Tiffanny I just finished The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman by Neil Gaiman. It was an interesting book. I've never read anything by Neil Gaiman before. I thought that it would make a really good book for and young reader. After reading Vixen by Jillian Larkin though, I was underwhelmed by The Graveyard Book. It did make a nice pool read though =) Thank you Tugce!!!
