Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 490 comments I decided to reread American Gods.

message 254: by Scott (new)

Scott | 130 comments I finished The Summer I Died on Saturday. That was an intense book to say the least.

After that, I decided to go with something much lighter. So I started I Am Ozzy. It is very funny so far.

message 255: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) Almost done with "Ice Station." Lining up my next read. I'm not sure what to read, but, I've got some good ones on the TBR in my kindle.

Aloha | 538 comments The Day of the Triffids is so good! If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it. I just started it and I love it! I have not read John Wyndham's writing before. What a great intro. to his writing. I'm happy.

Aloha, that is absolutely my favourite John Wyndham book! I've read it at least 7 or 8 times over the years and will probably read it again sometime.

Maggie K | 1287 comments Mod
I wanted to read Triffids but havent been able to find a copy, so I will read Revelation Space next. Am in the process of reading A Shadow in Summer and just finished On Basilisk Station

message 259: by RB (new)

RB (rblindberg) the book I'm currently reading is actually non-fiction: In Search of the Multiverse
It's quite good!

Jason (darkfiction) | 422 comments I'm going to be starting Triffids very soon. :)

Jason (darkfiction) | 422 comments Actually, I went ahead and created the thread for our themed discussion for The Day of the Triffids. You can get to it here:

Lol, I didn't read this until just now, but as you saw, I did post it there too. :)

Leviathan Wakes is my current sci-fi. I'm loving it.

message 264: by Sonia (new)

Sonia O'Brien (soniaobrien) | 8 comments I'm really trying to read Robopocalypse (I know, a little behind), but I keep getting sucked in to other projects.

message 265: by Scott (new)

Scott | 130 comments I finished I Am Ozzy last night. I think that this was the funniest book I've ever read.

I then started The Great and Secret Show.

message 266: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) About halfway through "The Day of the Triffids" John Wyndham. I'm loving it. Does anyone know if Wyndham and H.G. Wells ever met or talked? There are some similarities in philosophy that seem more than an accidental occurance.

message 267: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 538 comments I'm done with The Day of the Triffids. It'd be a few days before I can get my head together and discuss about it, though. My furniture and stuff is finally arriving tonight. My sister and BIL are delivering it. It'd be nice to have all my stuff again.

Meanwhile, I'm moving on to Revelation Space. This is twice the length of Triffids, at least.

message 268: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 422 comments Hugh, personally, I have no idea.

Aloha, great news on getting your furniture! It must be a relief!

I can't wait to start Revelation Space after all the great things I've read about it. It sounds awesome! Let me know, Aloha, if it's that good! :)

message 269: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Chater (chaterpublishing) Currently reading Flashforward by Robert Sawyer. Not too much like the television show, more thought provoking. So far its pretty good.

message 270: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 422 comments Is the show Flashforward any good, Christopher?

message 271: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Chater (chaterpublishing) I liked it, but it only went one season and didn't have a conclusion. It's worth checking out on Netflix or hulu on a rainy Saturday.

message 272: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 422 comments Thanks, Christopher!

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 372 comments Starting Point Of Impact, getting back into Hard Magic and on the sci/fi side starting Trading in Danger, all my own books. Almost finished with the library books I'd started and have refused to start any more... Well other than a couple of play-aways which I plan to "listen to" when I'm doing something that will prevent me from reading. LOL

message 274: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 490 comments I am reading the last two Terry Brooks books. Finished with the first one, onto the second.

I really enjoyed Flashforward and was disappointed when it was cancelled.

message 276: by Jason (last edited Sep 03, 2011 07:57PM) (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 422 comments I've met the author to the book of Flashforward, Robert J. Sawyer, a few times at conventions and whatnot. I know that he was really excited about the show. I feel bad for him.

message 277: by Tina (new)

Tina Bright (AlyssaD98123) | 1 comments I'm reading Poisoned Star by Josh Tremino. It's an incredible sci-fi romance. If you like big ships, incredible aliens, and some intense action, you should definitely check this one out.

I see a lot of people reading that book.

Nathan Yocum (nathanyocum) | 14 comments I'm reading Shadow of a Dead Star. Solid new cyberpunk!

message 281: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 538 comments Jason, I gave up on Revelation Space after going 1/4 into it. It's really not saying much for me but a lot of techno stuff. I like a bit more depth in my books. I started Solaris, and it's great! I can't wait to finish it. I'm going to watch the movie again, too. I wasn't much into the movie when I first saw it, but after reading this book, it should all make sense to me.

Jason (darkfiction) | 422 comments Thanks, Aloha! I haven't gotten to Revelation Space yet. I'm still trucking through Basilisk Station. I've got to go back to reading only one book at a time again. lol

Glad to see that you're enjoying 'Solaris', A! I had to read it twice and still wasn't sure what was going on with that planet! The movie (George Clooney version (there is also a Russian version) ) was great. Enjoy!

message 285: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 538 comments I put the two movie versions in my Blockbuster queue. I put Solaris in my favorites shelf. I saw the Tarkovsky version and didn't get it. I should be able to get it now. Of course, I was probably too young to get it, too.

message 286: by Traci (new)

Traci I really liked Solaris but (view spoiler)

message 287: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 538 comments Same here, Traci. And what about (view spoiler) It probably was meant to let your imagination create its own eeriness. I also like how he added to the paranoia by the repeated statement, (view spoiler)

message 288: by Traci (new)

Traci Aloha, two other books you might enjoy are Hothouse and Brain Wave. Both are different and a little freaky, not scary...just odd.

message 289: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 538 comments Thanks, Traci! Those do look great. I like freaky, weird, what-ifs SciFis.

I picked up Revelation Space from the beginning again, in audio. I'm enjoying the world building now. I get impatient with the world building of Fantasy (in this case SciFi) because what appeals to me are the emotional and psychological elements. I enjoy books that show a lot of mental/emotional interplay,or situations that invite my mind to wrap myself around them. The typical gung-ho, warrior kind of books without much more psychological push and pull depth don't usually appeal to me. For example, I enjoy the The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings series because there is a lot of depth and change to Bilbo, Frodo and other characters as they make their hero's journey. On the other hand, The Blade Itself, was forgettable to me, making me wish I hadn't wasted my time with 515 pages.

message 290: by Traci (new)

Traci Yes, us fantasy fans sure do like rambling books. Lol.

I am also reading Revelation Space and will soon be starting A Shadow in Summer.

message 292: by Barry (new)

Barry Kirwan I'm reading The Lost Fleet by Jack Campbell, and loving it. I'm also reading Jack McDevitt's Deepsix, which is closer to my own writing style, and he puts these great quotes at the start of each chapter from one of the characters, makes me laugh each time before getting down to serious business. I was reading Matter by Ian Banks, and Coalescent by Stephen Baxter, but got bogged down in both of them as the plot seemed to be going nowhere, at far less than warp speed...

message 293: by Barry (new)

Barry Kirwan Kevin wrote: "I am reading Ringworld along with its sequel Ringworld Engineers then on to Doomsday Book."
Read it recently, loved it. One of those rare books I've promised myself to read again one day. Enjoy!

message 294: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 422 comments I used to read that magazine all the time, Brick. I haven't in a while. I should pick it back up again.

Jason (darkfiction) | 422 comments I wasn't planning on reading the second book in the Honor Harrington series so soon. But here I am, reading The Honor of the Queen...

message 297: by Traci (new)

Traci Hull Zero Three. Not a deep read but quick and fun. My first Greg Bear and even though this book seems different than his usual I'll be reading another sooner than later.
