RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Some controversy about a Pope John Paul II statue...

I don't think it's bad, although maybe a bit too fat and superhero-y, I guess. But this part made me laugh:

Some Romans and tourists say the bronze statue looks more like Italy's wartime dictator Benito Mussolini than the widely beloved pope

Mark Burns (TheFailedPhilosopher) | 441 comments Well considering that me and two of my female friends once broke out laughing when a friend said "I'll show you John Paul waving" and reached into his pants pocket with a drunken exuberance that made it look like he meant something other than a picture on his phone... well you can probably guess where my head goes when I see rate this pope statue...

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I'm going to use "pope statue" for that meaning from now on.

As am I... I offer my permission. Euphemisms are public domain.

There will always be some people who are horrified and confused when a representation of a person isn't an absolute likeness of the person. "I wasn't thinking about resemblance, but rather a work that was able to synthesize, in the posture of the head and body and in the draping of the cloak, the way the pope went out into the world," Rainaldi [the artist] was quoted as saying.

I'm kind of surprised Romans are this philistine.
