message 1: by Aynge (new)

Aynge (ayngemac) | 1202 comments I keep reading that it's only necessary to shampoo once, but I was raised to shampoo twice. I no longer wash my hair everyday, but when I do I always repeat. The experts say only beauty queens and news anchors -- people who pile on the mousse and gels and sprays -- need to shampoo twice, or however many times it takes to get the gook out.

Do you repeat?

Sarah | 13814 comments The 'repeat' was a stroke of marketing genius. I do not believe you need to shampoo twice.

message 3: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) Generally I don't. If I get a good lather with the dob of shampoo, I don't bother with a second. If my hair is really grubby (like after a weekend of camping), I'll repeat.

message 4: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) This is no-repeat Wednesday.

Mark Burns (TheFailedPhilosopher) | 441 comments Frankly any marketing ploy that lends a hand to the great cause of getting people to stay naked and soapy a little longer is okay by me.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I rarely, rarely, rarely use product in my hair anymore, but if I do, I'll get in the shower and get my hair damp, then put conditioner in and comb it through. That way, I don't have to keep shampooing to get everything out and I'm not having to drag my hands through my hair to get it untangled.

Lyzzibug ~Still Breathing~ (lyzzibug) | 708 comments I don't repeat. I've always thought it would just gunk up your hair more to do so. Like a washing machine, if you use too much soap it clogs up things.

Carol | 1678 comments No repeating, not never, not no how.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Nah, don't repeat unless your hair is really gunky to start with.
In fact, sometimes I wash my hair only every other day, because it can get too dry. Especially if the humidity is low.

I dont even shampoo once.

message 11: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Ever?

message 12: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I WISH I could get away without having to shampoo everyday. If I go more than a day between, I have a ridiculously uncomfortable scalp flare-up and I end up miserable for a long time. It's not worth it for me to even attempt it.

I never bought into the repeat line. Somehow even as a child I knew it was excessive. I wouldn't have had time to do it, anyway, as a child or an adult. Always in a hurry to get out the door.

I pretty much only use shampoo every other day. It dries out my hair too much. I have to use conditioner just to get a comb through my hair. My salon lady told me not to rise out all the conditioner, to leave some in so your hair stays moister. Even with that, I still add a little leave-in conditioner. I don't use any mousse or hairspray so there's really no gunk in my hair to get out.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Do you have curly hair or straight hair, LG? Or maybe even, say, a mullet?

Bite your tongue, Heidi.

My hair is straight but has a fair amount of body. Thickish.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Maybe your cut your hair like Amelie? I love that do. I think it'd look great with your babushka.

I can only quote from E.M Forster's Howards End:

"As for her hair, or rather hairs, they are too complicated to describe, but one system went down her back, lying in a thick pad there, while another, created for a lighter destiny, rippled around her forehead."

God, i love that book.

message 22: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments I have never heard of this 'repeat' nonsense. I try not to use shampoo every day, but I can't live without shampoo for more than 48 hours. I usually start feeling miserable around the 36 hour mark.

message 23: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Tick tock, J.

My hair person does the rinse-repeat thing. But I never do at home. I needs must use shampoo daily, thank you.
